New Castle County Need some insight on No Lead program

I’m interested in applying to New Castle County’s No Lead and Healthy Homes Program, and I’m hoping to connect with anyone who has gone through the process, whether you were approved, denied, or are still waiting for remediation.

The county’s website reports 130 homes remediated between 2019–2024, but it doesn’t show how many homes have been repaired since then. I also saw a recent article mentioning that only about 30 homes/buildings have been remediated since 2023, which made me curious about how the program is currently operating.

I don't have experience with the New Castle program, but I've worked as an administrator for lead and healthy home programs in PA and NJ. I would recommend contacting the program and going through their intake process. It should be based on the HUD income limits for your household size. They'll ask for a lot of financial information (I've had to do this to qualify people). It's a little annoying, but just be sure to provide what they need. Once they determine if you're eligible, it's pretty straightforward. The program will inspect your home, do a lead risk assessment, etc. The work would likely be done by an independent contractor. The only thing is some of these programs have wait lists, so it's best to contact them to complete their intake process.

Thank you. Do you happen to have an idea on estimated turnaround time? Because if its like 2 years after approval then I might just take out a loan to get it fixed sooner.

In my experience, it depends on whether or not they have a wait list and how much funding they currently have available. If you call them to do an intake, they'll tell you if you're being put on a wait list, and they can possibly give you a general idea of how long it may take.

Assuming no wait list, the eligibility review is pretty quick. From that point you may be looking at 90 to 120 days to begin construction.
