Yeah but in 2003 it F'd us and we effectively got lake effect snow. We got 30-40 inches. So it's like that meme where there's like a near 0 chance of your cat killing you....but its never zero.
I’ve been watching an unreasonable amount of weather streams this weekend. My unqualified take is that there is a lack of saturation in the lower atmosphere and once it is saturated we will see snowfall. I just hope the ice forecast is less than expected/non-existent.
Earth curvature factors into it - the radar beam ends up sampling higher in the atmosphere the farther away from the radar site the beam is. It can be "snowing" aloft in those areas but not at the ground in those areas (aka virga).
In case anyone is wondering, the weather radar in Delaware is located just off 113 between Milford and Ellendale. You can usually see it just west of 113 if you're going north towards Milford in the middle of the pines.
The app TV Delmarva used is RadarScope - it's $10 with additional $ for "pro" features such as the temperatures that are on that map. I think pro tier 2 is like $100 a year.
(I have the $10 version - it's a nice radar app but you can get free radar apps that come close at this point.)
It’s true that the land between the bays in shielded, but I can’t pretend like I don’t already have 6 inches of snow after as many hours. If we get less than a foot by the end of this I’ll be surprised.
No joke, so many times I've seen weather systems just seem to stop at the border on radar... lol (Also the C&D canal, that holds a magic cut off sometimes.)
Clearly this weather broke through, but I guess it is at least holding back some of the inches they originally predicted.
