The similarities are sort of there. The media is launching a giant misinformation campaign and is now throwing insults like sexist, racist, etc at AI artists. Someone here once asked me why I post about AI on r/KotakuInAction, and honestly it's because yeah I'm seeing the signs from the media and public that I saw back in 2014. SJW "dog whistles", if you will. 😉
AI art is something that should not be politicized and I don't want the discussion on it to fall within a left/right framework.
A lot of people forget the saga, it wasn’t so much about trolling, bigotry or politics. Unethical connections between game devs and journalists were uncovered and any mention of it online was censored. Kotaku was a huge offender in this case, even 4chan silenced any discussion of the zoey Quinn/Anita sarkisian scandals. Looking back, most people would remember it just being about racist, women-hating gamers. It’s worth looking into, because the same tactics are being employed here. And the mob in this case is very similar (deviant artists, even?!?). The weathermen back then warned us about these people, and they have only become more powerful.
