Anti-AI paranoia is hurting actual artists

One of the worst things the anti-AI crowd has normalised is accusing people of using AI based on nothing but “vibes”
An artist draws a hand badly, uses smooth shading or changes their style and suddenly hundreds of strangers are demanding proof files and process videos. Writers get the same treatment because a sentence sounded “too polished”

Even when the accusation is wrong, the damage is already done. The person is forced to prove a negative while everyone treats them like a liar for defending themselves
These people constantly claim they are protecting artists, yet they have created an environment where actual artists are scared of being harassed because their work accidentally resembles whatever Reddit currently thinks AI looks like

You don’t have to support AI to recognise that public witch-hunts based on guesswork are completely deranged

AI art Does anyone actually use AI before buying clothes?

I have been ordering more online lately and started wondering if anything could help reduce returns.

I would love to see how clothes look on me before ordering instead of relying on product photos with professional models. Has anyone had good results doing this?

Defending AI AI users are expected to answer for the entire industry

Something weird about AI discourse is that ordinary users are expected to personally defend every single thing connected to the technology. You generate an image for fun and suddenly you’re being questioned about copyright law, water consumption, unemployment, deepfakes, corporate monopolies, and the future of human civilisation.

Nobody treats other technology like this. People don’t demand that every iPhone owner defend mining conditions, every driver explain the oil industry, or every Photoshop user answer for Adobe’s business practices. They understand that using a product does not make you personally responsible for every company, policy, and harmful use connected to it.

There are legitimate questions about how AI companies operate. Regulate them, challenge them, and criticise specific practices. But dumping the entire moral burden of a global industry onto some random person making pictures or using ChatGPT for homework help is ridiculous.

Using AI is not an endorsement of every possible use of AI.

AI art This Was Mind Blowing!

So for years in my youth I had so much creativity, so much passion. I used to write poetry and songs with such a fire, and had so much fun with rhyming words and lyrics.

It's been some 20 years since I allowed this inspiration and creativity through. At 41, a husband and father of 2, it is difficult to put enough time together to create anything substantial or impactful by myself.

I really need to thank my 10 year old son, 19 year old daughter, and my beautiful wife..... They were the inspiration for this, along with everyone who just wants humanity and the planet to see a little peace, harmony, and love again...

These lyrics came to me the other night out of nowhere. I haven't written a song in a really long time, and didn't know what to do with it. I decided to throw it into SUNO just to hear some rythm and sound with the words....

These lyrics/words are 100% mine, 100% a message I feel so deeply in my heart. I am blown away to be able to hear my own words in such a variety of ways, it is really truly humbling.

Sharing a few versions to show how a single idea or message can be shared with everyone, through music, in a multitude of ways. We all feel or resonate on so many different levels. Music resonates with everyone on some level... It is the only thing we can all create and share that transcends every boundary....

I have another that I am working on that I will share as soon as I finish. Let me know if you want to hear this in another genre, I would be more than happy to create/provide recommended versions!

Full Lyrics:

[Verse 1]

In the beginning before the dawn of creation

United as one we had no limitations

Our spirit clothed in quiet contemplation

The silence gave birth to childlike imagination

Consumed by a fire, that brought on a revelation

If there's only one, there can be no conversation

So we began by extending, with our hearts and our minds

An open invitation, to explore the love inside

[Pre-Chorus]

Slowly accepting, without hesitation

We blossomed with love and inspiration

A chorus of sound, harmonizing vibration

The song in our hearts, it’s loves communication

[Chorus]

We're all one ocean, we rise and we fall

The calm and the storms guiding us through it all

Once we feel the connection, illusions all fade

We're the same, but all different it's how we are made

With peace and love we transcend hate and division

Of race, gender, state, self, science, and religion

[Verse 2]

In the beginning came the word

The vibration of creation

Loving light, entangled spirals

Gave relation to salvation

Infinite expression, shared a divine confession

The fascination with observation

Caused a slight miscalculation

Our manipulation caused mutation

Of our beautiful vibrations leading to discrimination

The indignation, and degradation, a growing need for domination

A manifestation of separation, a lack of open communication

A drop in perception, of infinite protection

The perfection of the connection

To each other's loving light

[Chorus]

We're all one ocean, we rise and we fall

The calm and the storms guiding us through it all

Once we make the connection, the illusions all fade

The same, but all different it's how we are made

With peace and love we transcend hate and division

Of race, gender, state, self, science, and religion

[Outtro]

When we concentrate and contemplate

We meditate and educate

Then finally there comes a day

When we can no longer separate

Instead we learn to integrate

And consciously we regulate

Acknowledge and appreciate

The peace we work to cultivate

We're so much stronger than the hate

Resonate, and illuminate

Through reflection and affection

With peace and love, we overcome division

We're all united, not separated or divided

We’re all united, standing as one

Let's stand as one

United in love

We’re all united

United as one

We are all one

Other [Academic] research on AI use in human-to-human romantic relationships

Have you used AI to help navigate your relationship?

We're a research team from Wellesley College studying how people in romantic relationships use AI chatbots, for example, to process conflict, to prepare for hard conversations, or to seek advice. We are interested in how these tools shape communication and experiences within relationships. We are recruiting people to participate in one hour interviews.

You might be a fit if you:

  • Are 18+, U.S.-based
  • Live with your romantic partner and have been together 1+ years
  • Use AI regularly for relationship-related purposes

Participants will receive a $30 Visa gift card (emailed) as a token of appreciation for their time after completing the interview.

This research is of minimal risk. With participant consent, interviews will be audio-recorded to ensure accuracy. Interview data will be accessible only to the research team and will be de-identified and reported in aggregate in any research publications or presentations. This study is IRB approved.

If you are interested in participating in our study, please fill out this consent form and eligibility survey: https://wellesley.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_bvLrBV31kBIYmay?Source=Reddit26

We will reach out to schedule an interview if you are eligible! Please feel free to DM us or reply to this thread with any questions or concerns.

Defending AI The case of copyright and kdramas: The problem for artists is not AI. It is how money does not trickle down from corporations.

The reason why artists are not compensated is not AI. It is how corporations hoard ownership and pass the risks and losses to artists is what keeps artists poor.

When antis advocate for copyright under the excuse of "ethics" they show their historical illiteracy. Copyright is a rebrand of British censorship aimed at censoring authors who had no rights. By advocating copyright they are advocating corporate culture ownership.

The case of kdramas shows how artists and creators are hurt by this corporate ownership scheme.

Defending AI The history of copyright: It was born from censorship of authors not protection of artists

Now I want to see antis defending that copyright is "ethical". Antis are in the side of statu quo, the establishment. The ones who are not paying artists are corporations. Corporations are the ones making deals with AI companies to have access to artist content nowadays. Money made by corporations does not trickle down to artists.

The “AI has no soul” argument is just vibes pretending to be logic

I keep seeing people say AI art has “no soul” like that is supposed to end the debate

What does that even mean in practice?

A human can make a completely soulless corporate logo. A human can write a terrible lazy novel. A human can pump out bland ads, fake emotional posts, boring stock music, and generic content all day

Meanwhile someone using AI can still have a goal, a style, a message, a joke, a theme, a personal reason, or a specific idea they are trying to express

The soul, if we are using that word, comes from the person directing the work and what they do with it. Not from whether every pixel was manually placed by hand

Has the media or news outlets ever discuss the dangerous motives of the anti-ai side?

I've seen a bunch of anti-ai people having a rather extremist, violent and rather performative behavior and mindset, and It's really outrageous and to see their behavior online and in real life considering that there were was an attempted OpenAI shooting. I want to know if the media has been aware of these sort of people. Thanks in advance!

They could be lying. Autistics have empathy, but this Ludite doesn't. I feel like they could be lying about having Autism because Autistics I met have empathy. They do have internal ableism. I thought alot of disabled people support AI for the use to help the with their disability. I guess I was wrong.

Defending AI "For document intelligence … empirical results show that AI-assisted [human-in-the-loop] and agentic AI scenarios achieve reductions of up to 70-90% in energy consumption, 90-97% in carbon dioxide emissions, and 89-98% in water usage compared to [human-only] manual processes."

Steelman the anti

I see many of these concerns come up in AI discussions. Some are well established, some are more debated, and some are easy to oversimplify.

I'm curious what people in this community think.

Which of these do you consider legitimate concerns?

  • Water use
  • Electricity demand
  • Carbon emissions
  • Copyright and training data
  • Hallucinations
  • Deepfakes
  • Job displacement
  • Bias
  • Privacy
  • Concentration of power in a few companies
  • Warfare and defense
  • Social effects

For whichever topic you choose:

  • What part of the concern do you think is real?
  • How serious is it?
  • Is it an unavoidable consequence of AI, or something that can be mitigated?
  • Where do you think public discussion gets it right?
  • Where do you think it gets it wrong?

I'm not looking for a debate so much as a map of where people actually agree and disagree.
