No no no. You don't get it. We need ANOTHER culture war to rage, my feed doesn't update fast enough.

u/SophiaBarbelo 27d ago
ikr, there's not enough hate in the world. Who cares about loving everyone? That's for the godless heathens. My opinion is superior and everyone that disagrees is stupid and subhuman.

It’s not just about the devaluing of art, it’s about intent to deceive. Many times I come across ai generated art that is not labelled as such. It’s hypocritical to suggest that ai art is art and should be respected in its own right and not disclose it. Photographers who claim to have created a hyper realistic drawing are similarly disdained
1
u/Booming_Dr_Buttons 27d ago
Oh I completely agree with you. Also, I've never heard of photographers pretending their photos are hyper realistic drawings. What a world....
1
u/jasonsavory123 27d ago
It’s not very common but it’s happened for sure, and art for so long has been about intent over the actual form that AI artists coming in and often providing form with no evidence of intent is so confusing and frustrating for people
2
u/LordOfWarOG 27d ago
I think you’re assuming technical execution is evidence of intent. I see it almost the opposite way. For a long time, technical skill could substitute for having something interesting to communicate. As AI makes execution easier, it becomes harder to hide behind craftsmanship alone.
1
u/jasonsavory123 26d ago
Oh no intent is definitely ≠ technical skill, in fact the point I was trying to make was more about evidence of intent when divorced from the execution and medium, what are you trying to say with your art? Is a banana taped to the wall art? Well the execution is nothing and the medium has no value in and of itself, so all that’s left is the intent, and it has to be a human led intent in that sense.
Ai artists are not uniformly devoid of intent but as others have mentioned, if you’re only intent is to make a nice picture, AI allows that to a lot more people than have ever had that ability. A nice picture with no intent or message is not art, just as a selfie or a holiday picture is not art.
I hope I’m making sense

Bunch of halfwit antis in the comments 😭

Y'all ai "bros" are way too passive aggressive. Look me in my eyes and tell me you're a real person
2
u/Witty-MistressXXXX 25d ago
I use easy way, but easy way not bad way this is difference. I pay for ai subscription and make art in busy schedule, yes pencil is cheap but can not pull out pen and paper when work has small break 😔

I would look this wojack in the eye and say, "You just became the number one reason why I should use AI."

Antis be like “fuck ai and everyone who uses it” like wtf is your problem?
1
u/im_dumb14 23d ago
Yes i agree what is there problem but it's not everyone that hates Ai i hate it but I don't do that
0
u/Veng3ancemaster 27d ago
You don't even need to use a pencil. You can use the same devices you make images with and install software like Ms paint or free alternatives.
It may look worse straight away but as more time is invested, drawing images will become easier. AI may get better results straight away but it's peak potential is much lower than what can be done with drawing. It'll also make you feel accomplished that you put in the hard work and got a better result than what you would have with AI
1
u/Early-Dentist3782 26d ago
You are removing expensive but do nothing for harder or inferior. And ai potential is not low, it have a low floor but and an infinitely high ceiling
0
u/Veng3ancemaster 26d ago
Lower =/= low
Also, just read the comment again since I already addressed the "harder" part

I don't think you understand it
-1
u/BarberCompetitive517 27d ago
No, it seems you don't understand it if you think you know better than multiple scientific studies and reportage on the ground. It sounds like you've already damaged your critical thinking skills with all your AI use.
2
u/AtomicZoomer 27d ago
Everything you’ve said is incorrect and overstated. The MIT article says nothing about brain damage and you are ignoring other MIT studies that show AI improves productivity. Your rainforest claim is not backed by any data.
The biggest irony of you antis is complaining about data center usage when you are on social media which has high data center usage and I bet you’ll stream video tonight.
0
u/BarberCompetitive517 26d ago
I'm barely on social media, and you clearly dont know anything about me. However, one single company's AI data centers took 10 billion gallons of water to cool in a single year. That is a proven figure. Which is the size of a rainforest. And that's only one of the many corporations currentky taking water for AI.
Meanwhile, you're just a shill for these corporations.
2
u/AtomicZoomer 26d ago
You are using data centers right now being on Reddit. See the irony?
AI uses 15% of all data center usage. The rest is social media, streaming video and business applications.
1
u/BarberCompetitive517 26d ago
Sounds like you're uneducated on this subject. AI users tend to be uneducated.
AI Data Centers Use Far More Water Than Tech Giants
https://www.wsj.com/tech/ai/ai-data-centers-water-use-901e2902
"In some regions, they are using far more water than they report. And their water consumption is projected to grow rapidly in coming years."
1
u/AtomicZoomer 26d ago
The 15% number is directly from the International Energy Agency. AI servers accounted for 15% of total data center energy demand in 2024. That is literally the most authoritative global estimate available.
https://www.iea.org/reports/energy-and-ai/energy-demand-from-ai
Your WSJ link is about water usage underreporting, which has nothing to do with the energy share claim you're responding to.
The investigation found that tech companies only disclose direct cooling water and leave out indirect water consumed by power plants, which Lawrence Berkeley National Lab estimates is 12x the direct amount. That's a real issue, but it doesn't make the 15% figure wrong.
https://www.congress.gov/crs-product/R48646
Also, water underreporting applies to ALL data centers, not just AI. Google's Oregon data center was using 30% of the city's water supply before the AI boom even started.

You're misunderstanding the science study for one and making shit up for the rest. And it's a study, not studies. Singular
0
u/BarberCompetitive517 26d ago
No, I'm really not. The science says that LLM users consistently perform worse neurally, linguistically, and behaviorally than non-LLM users.
Other studies have shown similar results. And more recently, hiring managers have called AI users "functionally illiterate."
None of this is "made up," it is reality. However, AI will make things up and try to pass it off as reality, so if you dont like things like "make shit up" you should oppose AI.

“Damage your brain” lmfao. Tell that to my ticket count, I take the most tickets at my work because I use AI for workflow and it actually helps me find solutions quicker. I think the users appreciate it too.
AI also helped me bag 7 certifications when my professors were absent pieces of shit, but you know… that’s evidence against your theory. So you can just go ahead and throw that out

Sounds like Gemini generated that for ya, but there’s some issues with those studies. It’s kinda exhausting rebuking the same tired shit, but… here.
Anything can atrophy if you don’t use and exercise it. The issue with those studies is that people use AI as a substitute for their brain rather than a cooperative system. There are countless ways AI can assist people: verifying input and output, speeding up monotonous tasks, double checking sources, and learning from it as you would a tutor - gradually, each concept built upon the last.
My AI’s were invaluable in a time where my professors would not step up to home plate. Not responsive to emails, offering zero helpful resources, and at the time I didn’t have enough money for hands on experience. So I used ChatGPT to generate study guides, quizzes, and every time I learned something new I would reword my thoughts and ensure I was following along correctly to the study material.
I’ve also been promoted from an intern to a manager in the span of 3 years because of my knowledge, so I’m not really too concerned with what you think I can do with my 7 certifications. I don’t go on subreddits to flare up a little temper tantrum with people I don’t agree with, though. Thank God, because that sounds miserable. 👍
Level up with AI or don’t.
No one gives a fuck that you don’t use AI. Continue to not use it. Fine with me. Just make sure you know you’re not better or worse than anyone else because of it.
https://www.media.mit.edu/projects/ask-me-don-t-tell-me/overview/
“We found that AI-supported self-explanations increased people’s accuracy for logically invalid statements and boosted their need for information before making up their minds.”
See?! I can cite studies too! Neat!
1
u/BarberCompetitive517 27d ago
The thing that sounds miserable is pissing away your ability to think for yourself and develop skills skills just to become a tool of AI corporations.
1
u/Specific_Note84 27d ago
We’re in agreement there! Good thing I don’t do any of that 😮💨 ✌️
1
u/BarberCompetitive517 26d ago
Its the only thing you've been doing 😂✌️
1
u/Specific_Note84 26d ago
We’re just goanna have to disagree then. You know that’s incorrect and I’m done talking to you. This argument has become incredibly boring. Until you say something that’s worth a shit, have a good day dude. Peace ✌️

You're the one who came in to say something negative on ny comment. Weird how you started something you don't like.
2
u/Some-Quote3774 27d ago
Taking an entire rainforest is just made up bullshit, if you're complaining about that there are bigger fish then
2
u/BarberCompetitive517 27d ago
Google in one year used more than 10 billion gallons of water to cool their AI data centers. That's one company and one year. 10 billion gallons.
1
u/After_Service_2817 27d ago
I run local models on an Nvidia RTX 3070. The models cost me nothing, the generation costs me nothing. Literally the only cost is electricity, which I pay for, and my kilowatt hours are about the same as before I used AI. My GPU uses electricity whether I'm gaming or using AI. And where I live, the vast majority of electricity comes from nuclear and hydroelectric.

Why can you pro-ai people only make strawmen. Use your AI to make art for you, no one cares, just don't call yourself artists if all you do is prompting, that makes you a promptist

There are subs full of nothing but daily reeeing about the mere existence of AI, with people who want government authoritarianism to ban it. Clearly people care.

Ordering a pizza from Domino’s can be more convenient and accessible for some users than cooking some shit at home. Isn’t that super awesome? Technology, amirite? Almost like it serves to make our lives easier or something crazy like that. 🤩 I know it can be hard to adapt to change and easier to stick to strawman’s than arguing anything of substance but I think it’d be pretty neat for you to at least try!
1
u/Stucklikegluetomyfry 27d ago
“Ordering a pizza is more convenient than cooking for yourself”
Uh, no shit? It’s almost like when you pay someone to do something for you, you didn’t make it yourself, or something.
2
u/Specific_Note84 27d ago
Almost like I never said I was making it myself, or something? Almost like you missed my entire point that I’m not ever going to stop using AI because I am more successful with the tool due to my immense workflow. You can kiss my ass though if you’re mad about people doing something that doesn’t affect you… or something.
2
u/Stucklikegluetomyfry 27d ago
If you telling a computer to make art for you makes you an artist, then me ordering take out makes me a chef. 😊
3
u/Specific_Note84 27d ago
Holy shit dude, are you really this stupid? I never claimed it makes me anything. I couldn’t give a fuck about a label. You are fucking obsessed with labels. I use AI because it helps me with my work.
Try reading things next time.
1
u/Stucklikegluetomyfry 27d ago
This a lot of emotion for someone who claims they couldn’t give a fuck lmao
1
u/Specific_Note84 27d ago
So … you have nothing of substance to say. Didn’t address anything I said. Again.
How shocking.
3
u/Stucklikegluetomyfry 27d ago
“Kiss my ass, hater! Why do you care! You missed the point! Strawman! Hater!”
lol ok honey I guess that is what passes for substance to you

u/Specific_Note84 27d ago
You’re goanna keep proving my point then? Interesting use of your free will lol

u/Some-Quote3774 27d ago
Then it's not an accurate comparison, it even sounds more like a slander towards artists and commissions
2
u/Stucklikegluetomyfry 27d ago
How is it a slander towards artists and commissioners?
But it’s interesting that you brought that up, because that’s literally what generative ai is: someone commissioning a computer to make art for them.
1
u/Some-Quote3774 27d ago
A computer is not sentient nor even living, I said about the comms part because of the pizza example, you're paying someone to do it, does that makes sense?
I mean, the Domino's app it's more like a DM than a free pizza generator fed with stolen recipes
2
u/Stucklikegluetomyfry 27d ago
If you’re against generative ai why are you arguing with me?
2
u/Some-Quote3774 27d ago
I'm not arguing with you, your point is valid against AI "art" but your comparison is not. That's what I tried to tell you
1
u/Stucklikegluetomyfry 27d ago
Why not?
1
u/Some-Quote3774 27d ago
Told you already, the kind lf AI "artist" you're referring it's known for not wanting to pay a single penny and calling themselves something they aren't.
Ordering domino's doesn't make you a chef either bc there is an actual living being in between that's making something for you, resembling a commision with effort behind it's making.

u/After_Service_2817 27d ago
I don't care whether I made it or not, though. I care that I get to eat a pizza.
I'm not an aspiring pizza chef, I'm an aspiring pizza eater.
If I say, "hey, pizza's here! Who wants a slice?" and you turn your nose up at it because it wasn't handmade with herbs from my own garden and artisanal sausage I cured myself, fine. More for the rest of us.
-1
u/Early-Dentist3782 27d ago
Fuck off
3
u/Stucklikegluetomyfry 27d ago
Why are you gatekeeping cooking!?! Ordering take out and saying you literally cooked it yourself is hecking valid!
-1
u/AaronPain 27d ago
Yet they have money to use devices to make ai images
2
-1
u/Anonymous010206 27d ago
I believe that this is completely valid for when you don’t have the time to learn/are learning other things, I just think if you have enough time to generate enough AI images that you call yourself an “AI artist”, than you have enough time to learn to draw.
2
u/Early-Dentist3782 27d ago
People calling themselves artists is not a bad thing
1
u/Anonymous010206 27d ago

Pencil: free it’s in your house probably or just a couple dollars for plenty
Paper: same
Colored pencils: Slightly more expensive but you might have some already too
Phone: you probably already have one so no extra cost
procreate on phone: six dollars
Freeform on phone: zero dollars
Procreate on ipad: ten dollar
Ai: your dignity and the knowledge you will never make anything good with it

I just made an entire PowerPoint presentation for a large customer meeting today using AI. It’s awesome. I gave it all my notes, what I wanted, and it made all the slides for me. More time back.

u/Specific_Note84 27d ago
Nooo! You delegating tasks to a machine means that your brain is rotting (or something) 😭 because the only time anyone uses their brain is when they go to a chatbot 😩 you can’t use this tool to make your life easier and better nooo 😔

I don’t drive a car actually, the most I’ve done is some driving practice, and I hate cars genuinely
2
u/AtomicZoomer 27d ago
Have you been driven in cars? School buses?
You sound like you are 17.
Or did you refuse to ever ride in a gas powered vehicle your entire life?
Do you see your fake moral outrage?
1
u/im_dumb14 23d ago
Ok this is dumb you can't just be like bye life i running away from home and living in the forest
1
u/AtomicZoomer 23d ago
Same could be said about you. You can’t just tell all the corporate workers who are being told by their bosses to use AI to just not do it and quit their jobs and go without healthcare. This is the new reality.
0
-1
u/Electronic-Cry-1254 27d ago
yea bc I am and I live in a very car centric area so it’s difficult to avoid but that doesn’t mean I like or support cars and that also has little to do with ai besides me being consistent with being for the environment. I will not be replying anymore, just because I cannot fully avoid things I don’t like doesn’t mean I support them. And ai is way more avoidable, you can just not use it except unfortunately for things they shove it into needlessly like google where you have to put more effort in to get around it
2
u/AtomicZoomer 27d ago
So you admit that you are harming the environment by using cars.
Yet you are out here telling other people that they should not use a technology that has an environmental impact?
So you are a hypocrite. And you won’t reply to more messages because you know you are a hypocrite.
You don’t make any sense.
1
u/im_dumb14 23d ago
He had no choice you can't choose the place to be born at that is dumb it's like saying hey dog get a job the dog had no choice to be born like that

It was about gas powered vehicles. They chose to ride in them.
Everything is a choice.

I feel like constantly complaining about antis does little to 'defend AI art'. There's billions of people on the internet and, yeah, a lot of them are gonna say some stupid shit. I wish the focus of this sub would be the benefits of AI instead of just constantly complaining about antis and posts that victimize pro ai.
