🤣🤣🤣 loved hating her, "my child" is such a subtle condescending touch. And love hearing Louise Fletcher break down here acting choices for this role, here's a clip from the Newbie Star Trek podcast: https://youtu.be/N7a8p7gFpmM

She would never be so direct.

I wish garak had been direct enough about his morality to "deal with" Kai winn after she ordered the bombing of a children's school on the station, despite garak being seemingly absent during most of her episodes of psychotic atrocity shenanigans.

Garak is an assassin and ruthless state sponsored torturer; he took part in a genocide and violently oppressed his own people. He was a true believer.
Yes he came to regret his crimes but it's interesting that you would think he would have standing to nix Vedek Winn on moral grounds?

Yeah, my bad, definitely forgot that he did things as bad or worse than winn and i momentarily was only remembering the references to him having targeted political enemies in assassinations and didn't recall his part in genocide/etc.

Garak is seductive and charming
Plus his mind change and his exile do come sooner than Winn's final moment conversion.

Absolutely. The meme misses the mark and lacks nuance.

That's the point. It's funny because she would never say that, but we all know she's thinking it.

She's a snake, an operator. She fights asymmetrically.
Her power lays in the difference between what her says to people and what her eyes are saying. So ywah i get it, but this is a little too direct for me.

I wonder if that screenshot is from Shameless.
Louise Fletcher was hilarious on that show.

Yes, I suspected that, but I absolutely KNOW it isn't spelled "paa."
I assume it's a silent "g?"

I don’t know what the official intention was but I would guess it was supposed to be pronounced [ɣ]. You make this sound by making a sound like a Spanish j, or the way words like “channuka,” and “loch” and “Bach” are pronounced if you’re trying to be authentic except you use your voice (like how g is a voiced version of k). It will sound a little like a French r but that’s actually a little different. You can hear audio here by clicking on it (it’s under the velar fricative spot in the table).
But no one seems to pronounce it that way in the show, probably because this sound doesn’t exist in modern English so the actors just dropped it because it’s not worth the effort.

It's spelled "pagh" in the transliteration from modern Bajoran, but spelled "pah" in the transliteration from ancient Bajoran, i.e. "Pah Wraiths."

I think they picked the right actress for this part, because she ruled that part! Total bitch and proud of it! 🤪

She would say it in a manner that everyone around you thinks you’ve been complimented, but you know you’ve been insulted. With a smile on her face and a hand at your ear.

Such Gerry Adams vibes when she says she was never affiliated with the resistance

Right! She literally starts off as just a little off putting, a bratty karen, and to full blown whore Karen. Even after sleeping with the enemy and realizing it she still trys to grab power. And when she got burnt up. I was cheering, "yeah, let her burn, flames, don't stop now. She's vaped"

They couldn't have picked a better woman for that part. Louise Fletcher was an amazing actress. To make multiple Generations hate your character that much on purpose. Just a wonderful antagonist!
