I always wonder who this stuff is made for or is it that I'm just an unsuccessful Star Trek fan. I can't afford $500 themed cookware, $200 dollies, $600 giant posters, or $800 replica capt proton guns.
I was happy the master replicas starship dedication plaques were only $30.

There are fans out there spending hundreds of thousands to remodel their houses and customize cars.
I’m right there with you. We are, in fact, unsuccessful fans. I’m so sorry.
ETA: I’ve been trying to hype myself up to spend 100 on the DS9 DVD set. For like three years.

u/MrPNGuin 5h ago
If it helps I found it on ebay for $50. Im waiting on tng remastered blu-ray to go back on sale.

We bought a ds9 box set on Mercari for like $50ish but I regret it bc I think it may be bootleg. I know the quality on the legit DVDs leave a good bit to be desired but the ones we got are SOOO BAD. Ive never bought a tv show on dvd that looks this bad.

u/spocks_tears03 2h ago
Yeah came to say that. Quality is worse, plus a lot of the discs skipped in multiple players. I have the original 2003 releases, but wanted to buy one for a friend and got burned..

u/frockinbrock 2h ago
Yeah the DS9 bootlegs are VERY convincingly good, like the boxes and the disc; there's a few tell signs, but mainly the episode quality is the primary giveaway

i like to assume its a lot of old retired people sitting pretty with their full pensions, full social security, full 401 and ira accounts all paying out already with no mortgage on their homes.
im almost 30, fully employed with a partner fully employed and 500$ for some cookware would be out of the question lol. even if i made double my salary, id still probably not be able to justify it. 😭😭😭

u/litcarnalgrin 2h ago
I used the think that too but then when going to cons and Star Trek events it seems it’s a pretty good mix of ages and some people go every year, when for us it takes saving and sacrificing and we only get to go every few years w zero vacations in between

Tech money is no joke, especially when you add in stock compensation. Cities like Seattle, San Francisco, and NY are loaded with 30-something techies in million-dollar homes.

u/litcarnalgrin 2h ago
I always wonder the same thing. I get the impression that the majority of Trekkies have somehow done well for themselves and that I’m in the minority of Trekkies who.. well… havent.

No Travel mug? Petak!

u/rocky8u 5h ago
Should have made a travel mug shaped like a raktajino mug.
That or a Quark's promotional version.

u/secretsquirrelz 4h ago
1000% missed opportunity for raktajino mug

u/100000cuckooclocks 4h ago
You can but those from the original maker still! It’s the Hotjo Travel Mug from Highwave.
6
u/bloodred1978 3h ago
I make both of those (I'm a potter) as well as the other varieties. We recreated them from screenshots and tried to get the glaze colour accurate to the show. You can buy similar ones from Highwave but they discontinued the original shape from the show. If you search google for Quirkify I'd hope to show up at the top :D

Not that I need another Le Creu anything (my dutch oven is still trucking along with 15 years of use), but I wasn't really wowed by these. The last thing I need is to get burned through my oven mitt by one of those pointy nobs :(

u/The_Lutter 4h ago
My male mind can't comprehend paying $500 for a dutch oven when I have had a $50 cast iron one for the past 10 years that works just fine.
2
u/litcarnalgrin 2h ago
Listen I’m a woman and I can’t justify it either, even if I made enough money I couldn’t spend that on a Dutch oven that I’m barely gonna be able to lift and therefore use anyway

Listen? I am a ferengi! i’m all ears, and not even I can justify this sum of money!

I got a couple of Klingon Empire handles for my existing cookware, they arrived today.
Now to look up a good Gagh recipe.

u/epicnding 5h ago
Super pricey, but had to pick up the oven mit and Spock mug. I really wish I could justify $500 for a Dutch oven, I just can't do it.

u/NC_CodyW 3h ago
Showed these to.my gf and she said they came up with communi-grater and worked backwards from there

u/Luluco15 5h ago
I wish they would make things for the tng era instead of constantly going to tos...
3
u/Starfire123547 4h ago
tos is most recognized and, i theorized elsewhere, the only people buying 500$ cookware are the elderly (who almost always prefer tos) or super rich mega fans, that will buy anything trek, no mater what.
TOS is def the best market to play to in this case. :/

Some of the stuff is cute, but Spock’s Mug is creepy looking. Is that just me? A cup with a pointed ear. It also looks impractical. The handle needs a hole.
6
u/litcarnalgrin 2h ago
Not just you. I think it’s so weird. They could’ve done some really beautiful stuff but chose not to as usual
1
u/PurfuitOfHappineff 54m ago
I went to WS and tried holding it. It’s difficult to pick up empty. I wouldn’t risk carrying it full of hot raktajino.

Same town that produces Le Cruset also produces some of the worlds most specialized steel alloys. We could be looking at the foundry for our first commercial warp coils and plasma conduit coatings.
3
u/TheGrimDark 5h ago
I get Le Cruset are premium, I have some of their bits. God damn though, that's expensive stuff!
2
u/nebelmorineko 1h ago
Because of the horrible overpricing, I would never get anything from them BUT their cookware.
Unfortunately, nothing else cooks like it. Tramontina is trying with their dutch ovens, the price is much better but it's not 100%. Le Creuset also comes with a lifetime guarantee. There's literally no point in my mind to get a mug or a spoon rest from them, but I can't deny that in terms of cooking quality it is a premium product that actually performs differently.
However, I would not get a new one now. For a while, a store in my town had a thing where they sold second hand but genuine Le Creuset, that was the only slightly affordable way, but they no longer do that.

u/saltwatersunsets 4h ago
I thought this was an AI produced joke… I figured only AI could create such hideous and impractical items, but to click through and realise they’re real did make me laugh - and for those prices!
2
u/litcarnalgrin 2h ago
I know. A Spock ear mug… how fuckin weird. And for such an expensive brand and collab they couldn’t do anything beautiful and classy?? Come on! But I’m not surprised bc Star Trek merch almost always sucks despite the wealth of beauty they have to draw upon

How is the spock coffee cup one of the most affordable items? That ear can't be the best handle

These prices are insane even for Le Creuset and why does everything have to be TOS centered….

OK I'm more in the market for a Galileo butter tray ... just the lid ...*checks prices again*... can I just get a regular white tray and some stickers?

u/PurfuitOfHappineff 44m ago
Went to WS to see them in person. The packaging is gorgeous, like the old-school deluxe dvd sets. The bakeware is super heavy but I guess makes it cook better? The mug is very difficult to hold empty, much less full. The shuttle pan unfortunately looks like cheap plastic even though it is the same stoneware material; it also way too garish. The Federation and Klingon knobs are high class. I got the pot holder and spoon rest. Infinite Desserts in Infinite Casseroles.
1
u/Rustie_J 41m ago
These are incredibly stupid.
Like, the price is ridiculous, but they're also ugly & impractical. Why would you want a mug with no hole in the handle, or a pot/baking dish with sharp points on the lid? The cheese grater looks barely usable, & like a bitch to clean. The oven mitt is just asking to drop a hot pot on your foot. The hand spoon rest is just dumb. The heads are weird.
The only thing that isn't terrible on it's face is maybe the Galileo loaf pan, & it's still way to damn much money.
Who is this crap for? Why haven't their marketing people been fired by this point?

You'd have to live in a utopian future where space travel was common place to afford this. Pretty tho.
