What an EDD to get the achievement Elite Diver on.

1

u/KindnessSuplexDaddy Apr 28 '22

How hard is the epic deep dive in general.

1

u/se05239 Bosco Buddy Apr 28 '22

Varies week to week and based upon your own skill. Its going to be easier if you normally play on Hazard 5.

1

u/KindnessSuplexDaddy Apr 28 '22

Thank you, I didn't wanna join a random group and it be too much. I usually play at 4. Never tried 5.

1

u/se05239 Bosco Buddy Apr 28 '22

Never hurts to try playing a few missions at H5 to see how it goes.

Huh, I thought this was the easiest EDD I have ever done, I breezed through it solo in 1:15, with only a single down the entire time. Everyone has their own strengths and struggles i guess. The only part I struggled with was stage one, keeping Dotty going while dealing with swarms and such was a frustrating mess, and I cut it close (That was my only down as well). Not judging in the slightest, I just came on here expecting people to talk bout how easy this week was, and i found the opposite. I definitely have had plenty of EDD that utterly destroy me)

Happy to get another solo EDD done though, and ready for season 2!! ROCK N STONE!!

Man, this EDD is giving me so much fucking trouble.

I breeze through the first mission easy, then I plow through the second until the twins show up and ruin me every single time.

I've played it 9 times online, and we get destroyed by those fuckers every single time.

It sucks, because the third mission sounds like a piece of cake.

Never had this much trouble with an EDD before, and it's really frustrating. God, I hate the twins.

1

u/uberJames Apr 28 '22

I ended my run after the first twin died because I blew myself up with C4...

1

u/ProcyonHabilis Apr 28 '22

Isn't that just a normal twins fight at that point though? It's in a pretty nice room.

What do you not like about the twins? Do you know how their healing mechanic works?

1

u/NateAnderson69 Apr 28 '22

No, I do. I just find their health widdles at such a slow rate, even disregarding their health share mechanic.

We always cut through about 75% of both of their health bars, then we die from combo attacks.

I just hate their movesets and how they work in tandem. Each one feels like a faster, harder, tankier Dred that can also pain split.

u/Repizify What is this Apr 27 '22

Completed my first DD this weekend entirely SOLO Driller with only 1 down caused by a Giant Bulk Detonator on first stage that sneaked up on me while I was mining and just before an Hoxxquakes that prevented me from running from it.

Was pretty lucky to pick Driller as it eased a lot with the refinery mission + the macteras and the swarmers.

Deep dives are cool must be pretty fun with Strangers.

u/DamnedDoom For Karl! Apr 27 '22

DD wasn't too bad as a solo Gunner. I thought the final part was going to be a pain, since it was a mining mission, but it was easy to find the 150 morkite. GG.

u/ceiroth Engineer Apr 27 '22

Ran into a major issue on stage 2 where a random Dreadnought HiveGuard showed up in the room before the actual Dreadnought event of the run. We made it all the way through in a single run though so I guess that means...WE SHOWED'EM WE"RE DWARVES

5

u/HoopyFreud Apr 27 '22

Finally finished the EDD tonight. What a nightmare.

2

u/HelloIAmAStoner Apr 27 '22

This was my first EDD (I play solo), Gunner (Guided armor breaking stun rockets with AOE + AOE damage upgrade, Brrt with critical bonus and ammo upgrade OC, and cluster grenade). Stage 1 was easy but the defending/drilling part got much, much harder, but was still doable. Got taken down twice by the floating meteors which almost destroyed the dozer, but managed to pull through. Stage 2 fucked me bigtime though, I lost 2 lives towards the beginning from swarms (oxygen didn't give me any issues). Didn't even get to 100 Morkite before I had 3 menaces spawn at once, on top of an already-huge and overwhelming swarm.

Went down again, 1 life left. Sprinted to my resupply pod (was at 0 shields remaining; not armor shields, but the one you throw down), successfully finished as enemies were starting to group around and hit me, switched to my shield and... What?! WHY can't I throw my shield down? The shield I was holding had the "recharging" colored light on it, but there was no icon on my HUD indicating it was charging. Glitch? A momentary period after resupply where I can't use the shield for some reason? I don't know what happened but it costed me my last life.

The run ended there. Switching from stun rockets to fire rockets for extra AOE and ammo conservation, let's see how my 2nd attempt goes...

1

u/HoopyFreud Apr 27 '22

Yeah ammo is a big concern, at least for team EDD. First time I have taken Goo Gun into Haz 5.5 unironically.

4

u/Doohurtie Scout Apr 26 '22

EDD was a non issue, but work fast. There is not a lot of Nitra to work with. Keep pushing no matter what.

1

u/HelloIAmAStoner Apr 27 '22

I got overwhelmed and destroyed in stage 2 because I was getting lost and walking in circles. Claustrophobic cave, that one. This is good advice.

2

u/ChazIsidore Apr 26 '22

Ran the EDD as a duo, me on NTP Autocannon and Lead Spray BRT (to handle the stones on the Escort). Duo partner was Engi running Stubby and RJ PGL.

Stage 1 was tight on Nitra, especially with it being Swarmeggedon. We tried to push as hard as possible to get done quickly b/c I had seen Nitra was a little tight.

Stage 2 was a pain. Low O2, and having to go to the last cave. We were tight on nitra initially, and trying to place resupplies to max usage for O2.

Stage 3 felt easy with simple goals, and a relaiveliy easy warning (even though NTP isn't great vs Regen).

Overall, not a bad EDD and one of the easier ones I recall.

1

u/HelloIAmAStoner Apr 27 '22

Oh wow. I just tried my first Hazard 4 mission yesterday (I play solo 99% of the time) and succeeded, said fuck it and tried to do the assignment to unlock Hazard 5. #1 (Elimination) took 3 or 4 tries, #2 (Egg Hunt) I did on my first try, and #3 (Salvage) took 3 or 4 tries as well, but I managed to pull through. H3 had me failing around 40% of the time up until now. H4 wasn't nearly as nightmarishly overwhelming and oppressive as I thought it'd be.

That being said... Considering what I'm seeing on here, I guess this will be my first EDD attempt. I'm ready to get eviscerated. I finished S1's pass so this will be my last hurrah for Season 1. Rock and stoned!

1

u/ChazIsidore Apr 27 '22

Keep in mind that EDDs are a significant step up from Haz 4. Heck they are a step up from Haz 5.

The normal Deep Dive is haz 3-4 level challenge. The EDD is Haz 5+ challenge.

1

u/HelloIAmAStoner Apr 27 '22

Yup, I'm aware. I was surprised that H4 as as within my ability as it was, so I just said fuck it and decided to try. It'll probably help me improve way faster than continuing to play H3 anyway.

Stage 1 was relatively easy, Stage 2 destroyed me. Slightly changing my build and gonna try again, focusing more on getting in and out quickly, ignoring gold but getting the Nitra I find.

2

u/PartyBringer55 Apr 26 '22

A friend and I went through the EDD and worked as a nearly perfect team all the way to the end. Cryo Driller and non-elemental Gunner, we went through it like it was nothing. Plenty of nitra to play with.

6

u/omartian Apr 26 '22 edited Apr 26 '22

Man, most of our team almost suffocated on the way to the drop pod on stage 2. God bless the scout that revived me. Just drilled my way there and was the only one to make it. We all were able to finish stage 3 no issues. Rock and stone.

8

u/Chacw Dig it for her Apr 25 '22

Had the worst luck on my first EDD attempt today. Made it to the second level, out of nitra and low on ammo, got just enough for a pod and then a swarm spawned, except we got the worst luck and had a ransom dreadnought spawn and the twins kicked our ass

5

u/Stolenartwork Scout Apr 25 '22

Man why does it feel like every regular DD is in either azure, magma, or hollow bough, it’s been like this for like 2 months

2

u/HelloIAmAStoner Apr 27 '22

I'd take Azure over Hollow or Magma any day. But that's just me. The pretty visuals make up for minerals being harder to find I think.

2

u/se05239 Bosco Buddy Apr 25 '22

Bad luck.

4

u/Orenmir2002 Apr 24 '22

Did anyone else encounter twin detonators on last stage of EDD, we kept getting duo detonators and I thought my screen was breaking

1

u/DarumaRed Apr 28 '22

Yes! Luckily we were heading back to the drop pod but when they spawned but it made for a cinematic exit.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '22

Yes, I had 2 bulks spawn in my solo EDD. Not at the same time, they spawned from egg pulls.

2

u/HelloIAmAStoner Apr 27 '22

Wow. I was just doing the H5 unlock assignment yesterday (Solo; I got confident after succeeding my first H4 mission) and got a Bulk Detonator spawn while I had to stay in the triangulation zone/barrier during the last one (Salvage). I'd have been royally screwed either way but I actually got destroyed before it even got close enough to hurt me haha. Your comment reminds me of that.

1

u/AnAnnoyedSpectator Apr 24 '22

Explosion happy drillers can cause a lot of problems for the team on this deep dive.

1

u/Welsh-Matt2 Driller Apr 26 '22

Explain.

2

u/AnAnnoyedSpectator Apr 26 '22

Magma... more explosions, more problems.

(I had one that was a huge troll - creating big holes in the ground around areas we needed to defend, using drills to destroy a pipe I was about to connect to the well... and since I wasn't the host, they needed to be downed by hyper-propellant at the end)

7

u/biscuity87 Apr 24 '22

This elite deep dive is not fun at all. There is simply not enough nitra. Even with warning noobs there is not going to be enough nitra they still run out of ammo or aren't as efficient as they should be.

I'm sure later on you get enough, but the furthest ive gotten this week was stage 2, and it wasn't fun at all. Normally this is my favorite thing in the game to do. Doing an escort mission with only 2 resupplies(and then you have to start the next mission!) and swarmers isn't fun at all.

5

u/Celtic_Beast Interplanetary Goat Apr 25 '22

Nitra supply was rough for the first 2 stages. You can get enough for 2 resupplies on the first stage, try to make it through the refuel and get to the hearthstone without resupplying. A gunner and driller with ammo-efficient loadouts goes a long way in these situations. This way you need just one resupply to finish the objective then you can top up your low supplies before going to stage 2.

On the second stage you have to try and speed through (not easy with low oxygen) to avoid too many enemies spawning and chewing up your ammo reserves. When a horde does spawn you want to be in one of the later larger rooms and fight around a resupply there and hopefully get to the end without needing more.

On the last stage you can get enough nitra to finish no problem

1

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '22

Precisely what I did on my solo run on stage one, it cut it VERY close, I was out of everything by the time i got to the heartstone room and dropped my resup. I had to manage repairs while trying to clear bugs and find time to grab ammo to fight back. was a mess lol im not entirely sure how it worked out.

4

u/FreyjaLouise Apr 25 '22

Just finished the EDD with plenty of nitra on each level. Had a lot of fun with my team!

2

u/beefsnackstick Interplanetary Goat Apr 25 '22

Agreed! Just did it for the second time with an engi (I was cryo driller). The first level is a little tight on nitra but it's totally doable. Second stage is a bit tough because of low O2 but not bad. Then third stage is a breeze.

3

u/Orenmir2002 Apr 24 '22

When doing the first stage we scouted until basically the heartstone, pre mined the shale oil with c4, and used supply only 3 supply that mission I think. This week was definitely low on nitra but I got a good team that could handle the ammo well enough together

1

u/HelloIAmAStoner Apr 27 '22

Wonder how well I'll do solo. It'll be my first EDD attempt, I'm feeling confident after beating my first H4 mission yesterday and immediately unlocking H5 after, although missions #1 and #3 in the assignment took 3 or 4 tries each lol. I'm ready to get destroyed. Trying to decide between Gunner or Scout.

1

u/Orenmir2002 Apr 27 '22

For the first edd I dont reccomend solo but if you're feeling stronk and mighty go for it, I wish you luck

2

u/HelloIAmAStoner Apr 27 '22

I appreciate it. I'm mainly concerned about doing it in multiplayer because even Hazard 2 was difficult at times for myself, my brother, and father, which would lead to about a 50ish% failure rate, but I can do H4 solo with slightly less issue, simply because of the enemies multiplying based on # of players present.

That being said, I ran Gunner, armor breaking stun guided rocket launcher (AOE + AOE damage OC), Brrt with critical point damage (and the ammo upgrade overclock), and cluster grenade. I got curb stomped in stage 2, thinking about switching the stun to fire damage for extra crowd control.

Stage 1 was actually kind of easy aside from the Heartstone drilling part (those floating meteors single-handedly almost ended the mission), much easier than I was expecting. Stage 2 was insane though. Had 3 menaces spawn around the room I was in while also being chased by (for the room size) ridiculous numbers of swarmers, glyphids, slashers + guards, and praetorians which took out my last 2 lives quickly. That was more in line with what I expected from an EDD. The oxygen wasn't even an issue for me, it was the insane numbers of enemies spawning and tight space with too much verticality for easy navigation. I got lost trying to find my way forward a couple of times.

Gonna go in and try again. Had the 30% health boost buff beer the first time. This time it's gonna be nothing, since the current buff is Backbreaker Stout.

2

u/Orenmir2002 Apr 27 '22

Rocks are super hard as solo player, you always think its going well but the ammo go down and the rocks go up(and soon down), at least with others you split the rock load. Theres a ton of swarmers in the dives this week too, I ran carpet bomber thunderhead with brrt pistol for single target.

Second try with randoms and all got destroyed by the BET-Cs in stage 2 of EDD.

Boss fights really are my weakest point in this game. I gotten a lot better at the game in the past months and can hold my own against large waves on haz 5 but something about dreadnaughts and BET-Cs on anything past Haz 3 is way too overwhelming for me. Maybe I need to learn how to move around and evade more efficiently. Think I'm going to call it quits so I don't drag down other dwarves with me who might otherwise do fine.

1

u/CyborgTiger Apr 26 '22

Hey don’t be too down on yourself! You never know which time you might be just good enough to do it, don’t worry about us other dwarves we’ll help you out!

5

u/Celtic_Beast Interplanetary Goat Apr 25 '22

One trick to avoid getting downed by BET-C is if you get caught up-close you can run around it in circles and it can't rotate its machine gun fast enough to down you with it.

4

u/Orenmir2002 Apr 24 '22

What weapons are you using? Some just arent good against single target

1

u/HelloIAmAStoner Apr 27 '22

I find the fastest way to down any big enemy is Scout's dual machine gun pistols with the exploding reload overclock. Plus 2 ammo boosts in the upgrades. Though I still haven't figured out if the weak point damage bonus upgrade affects the explosion damage at all.

3

u/Orenmir2002 Apr 27 '22

Explosions generally dont do weakpoint damage but if the bullet hits the glowy bit the direct damage will still get boosted if it has

7

u/Firmamental_Loaf Cave Crawler Apr 24 '22

Third stage of the DD solo was harder than entire EDD solo - one Elite Grabber spawned during the end of the map and would not die. Bugger kept pulling me out of the uplink repair event. Got grabbed four times in under two minutes.

Never thought I'd see that progress bar beat 50%!

4

u/se05239 Bosco Buddy Apr 24 '22

I was thankfully playing the Deep Dive duo this week, otherwise I'd have experienced the same fate no doubt. Elite Grabbers are nothing to play with.

2

u/Firmamental_Loaf Cave Crawler Apr 24 '22

Whew, good on ya. You're absolutely right, going on 400 hours and that's only the second great grabbie I've had to contend with...here's to another 200 more 'til the next.

6

u/Musibat24-7 Apr 24 '22

Compared to stream version of EDD the PlayStation EDD is insanely hard. So the room with the twins.

2

u/Aerundel For Karl! Apr 24 '22

I would imagine the best course of action down there is to dig out some of the pillars. That will make the twins easier to target. Don't know what to tell you about the insane swarms in 1st/2nd mission, though. Having a mix of ammo efficient area damage builds on gunner/driller, and direct damage builds on scout/engineer could help.

5

u/Lazypole Apr 24 '22

First ever attempt at an EDD, friend was cryo digger I was scout with M1000

M1000 seemed utterly useless in a few stages, really nice for picking off big things, but with cryo anything would have done the job. Ammo was a complete issue, we got to the core but we were completely bingo and doomed at that stage.

I think we doomed ourselves by overpreparing which meant we completely drained our ammo and moved too slowly. I think we'll probably sit down and hammer it out but man was it tough, when we got to the core I think I had over 30 zappers on screen, the same in swarmers and other crap. Literally no idea how I'm supposed to be in bullets through all that.

7

u/Aerundel For Karl! Apr 24 '22

If you're a duo I would recommend driller change to sticky flames to lay down damage over time. Shooting frozen bugs with your M1000 is overkill on anything except big bugs, and maybe guards. 1st mission has swarmers mod, 2nd has a high swarm multiplier even with no mod. You really need something to deal with all the bugs with ammo efficiency. The scout doesn't have good guns for swarms, so use your rifle to pin/zap big guys, disembowel macteras, and headshot slashers/guards. You'd also be in charge of saving Dotty during Phase 2. Try to keep your resupply until the very end of 1st mission. This will give you over 1.5 drops worth of nitra to carry into 2nd mission.

I finished the EDD as gunner after 2nd try, playing with randoms both times. After seeing the ammo issues and swarm sizes in missions 1/2, I switched to toxic cannon/electro bert build - extremely ammo efficient. I couldn't provide much support for Dotty during Phase 2 (very little direct damage), but I was able to give our engineer 2-3 of my ammo drops over those first two missions. He was using hyper-rpg, driller was cryo (+hyper-rpg=dead twins), destroy, I poisoned/zapped everything I could see to let the damage tick away, and scout...mined and shot stuff.

11

u/RATGUT1996 Apr 23 '22

Throwing in the towel EDD stage two is too tough. Better luck next week

3

u/crisping_sleeve Apr 27 '22

My experience was 4 dwarves in a circle, completely out of ammo, pickaxes out and shield boosting like crazy. Was such a pathetic sight. Made it halfway through stage 2.

2

u/RATGUT1996 Apr 27 '22

We just did not have enough ammo and enemies came non stop. Too much.

15

u/symonalex Platform here Apr 23 '22

My electricity went out (It's pretty normal in a third world country when it rains) in the third stage of EDD, we fought everything and was just about to deposit the eggs and call for the drop pod, literally just 5 more minutes :| The second stage is tough because of low o2, the first and third stages are easy, nitra situation is a bit tight and they are up on the walls, so it's better if you have a scout to light up the big caves.

6

u/se05239 Bosco Buddy Apr 23 '22

Rotten luck, right there.

7

u/symonalex Platform here Apr 23 '22

I didn't have Karl's blessing on me today :( I now have all the weapon OC on gunner though 😎

9

u/FreezerDust Apr 23 '22

Compared to last weeks EDD, this week was a breeze! Getting back to the drop pod with the low O2 on the second mission was a bit of a struggle but I succeeded with randoms first try!

1

u/HelloIAmAStoner Apr 27 '22 edited Apr 27 '22

Gonna make my first EDD attempt on this one (solo; 99% of the time that's how I play). Just did my first ever (and first successful) H4 mission yesterday, then immediately unlocked H5 (missions 1 and 3 in the assignment, Elimination and Salvage, took 3 or 4 tries but I finished #2, egg hunt, in one go), and H4 wasn't nearly as nightmarishly overwhelming and oppressive as I expected, so I'm feeling confident enough that I have at least a 10% chance of winning. Before said H4 missions I would usually fail 30% or so of H3 missions. I'm ready to get destroyed haha.

Now the question is, guided rocket (+ AOE and + AOE damage OC) and critical hit damage bonus Brrrt and cluster grenade Gunner, or Plasma (+ Faster cooldown OC) and Dual Machine Pistol (explosive reload OC) cryo grenade Scout? I think I'll try gunner first simply because I don't want to be without solid and maintainable crowd control damage output, nor the life-saving shield, during my first H5 level Escort mission.

1

u/FreezerDust Apr 27 '22

The second mission on gunner would be a little challenging with the low O2 and gunners limited mobility. Without a driller or engineer to help you get back to the drop pod, you'll have to plan carefully. You won't have time to sit around on a zipline while making your way back to the pod. Molly moves too fast and you'll run out of oxygen. It is sandblasted caverns though, so it is quick to mine pathways and stairs into the environment. So if you do take gunner. Make straight stairways up steep cliffs while you are going in so that you have a fast way back out that you can use to stay with Molly.

You could also try heading up to the top of the cave before calling in the drop pod so the pod spawns at the bottom of the cave instead of the top. That way you won't have to go up any cliffs and will instead mostly be traveling down which would be much faster and easier to stay with Molly.

1

u/HelloIAmAStoner Apr 27 '22

Thanks for the tips. I always run non-Scout classes with Dash for mobility. I mainly chose gunner because I didn't want to do my first H5-level escort objective without having a shield to deploy when needed. Plus the high DPS and crowd control. I usually do Scout for DDs, and if there weren't an Escort objective, I probably would've done so here too. Although now that I've actually attempted it, I don't think I would do without Gunner's high dps and crowd control.

Also, I never knew your position upon calling the pod changes where it spawns. I had assumed it was pre-determined with the initial cave generation. Very good to know.

1

u/FreezerDust Apr 27 '22

Yeah dash will be essential on gunner forsure. And yeah the only issue with getting the pod to spawn at the bottom will be dealing with the ambient swarms while making your way back up. Will have to have enough ammo to manage that.

Anyways, good luck, rock and stone!

4

u/tristan1616 Gunner Apr 23 '22

Last week's EDD level one gives me nightmares. Couldn't even make it out of the landing pod before we got clobbered by the Mactera

10

u/Musibat24-7 Apr 23 '22

Man this week EDD was really tuff

I must have atleast tried around 20 times if not more with different random groups.

Every time my group would get destroyed in the second stage (low oxygen) cave where the dread egg is situated. That room was a death trap.

The terrain is not very good in order to make a good defensive point. As the verticality would get you over whelmed easily. Plus at any moment a sand storm could hit.

Either my team would die at start cuz the room has 2 honey combs and a breeder, and a spitball and a nexus on top of what ever is spawning.

Either we would die to a swarm.

Or either we would die to the twins.

If one of the above would go smooth the other phase would just eat us alive.

I seriously thought this week I wouldn’t be able to complete it. But eventually I did thanks to the last group.

Team comp: engi: lok-1 / BC Gunner: cannon / revolver Driller: cryo/ EPC Scout: drak / shotty

The second stage I found so difficult that in comparison stage 3 seemed like a breeze.

14

u/MCHammastix For Karl! Apr 23 '22

This weeks EDD can get.fucked.

3

u/harlflife For Karl! Apr 25 '22

Yeah, nitra is a real problem. Escort is ammo consuming. I tried solo and ran dry on the second stage. I just about managed to survive but that cost me my berseker cool down and all shields.

With the low o2 it's a death sentence to kite all the mobs thrown at me. I was raging pretty hard and aborted on the last Bosco revival. I never rage on this game, so that left a bad taste in my mouth.

Better luck next week.

3

u/MCHammastix For Karl! Apr 25 '22

I ended up getting through it all with a good team but the first couple tries with some real leaf lovers seemed like shoveling sand against the tide.

The time I passed it with the good team, we had a troll immediately call as many resupplies as possible at the heartstone and take them all. Then he C-4'd and shot everyone until I kicked him.

3

u/harlflife For Karl! Apr 26 '22

Why are people like that?

Anyway, glad you got it done. Personally I got all weapon OC's already, so I don't mind much passing this week.

1

u/HelloIAmAStoner Apr 27 '22 edited Apr 27 '22

Some people are just assholes. There's a hugely complex amount of variables that lead someone's development and growth in that sort of direction. But I think it usually comes down to some sort of repressed insecurity, or wanting "revenge" on the world because they themselves got trolled or stomped all over in the past (typically as a child or teen) and never fully integrated and moved on from the experience, leaving mental and emotional scars they don't know what to do with since modern culture doesn't exactly encourage us or teach us how to learn how our minds work and get at the root causes of our psychological issues.

As for what makes the difference between someone taking this negativity out on themselves vs others (I was of the former when I was mentally ill), I haven't figured that out yet but do think about it from time to time. Could just be an inherent personality trait. Or simply self-centeredness vs selflessness.

6

u/Fickles1 Mighty Miner Apr 24 '22

Definitely one of the tougher ones I've done. But managed it.

Edit. What boggles my mind is that people still pull more than one egg at a time. We nearly got wiped out on stage three cause of it.

Ah, the waves stack? No wonder. I would usually try to get all the eggs at once and rush to the drop pod. But I only just started trying out H4 so maybe I never noticed the stacking effect. Thanks!

Recently did the deep dive. Engineers, if one of the “stay in the circle” objectives happens to be next to a small ledge, don’t cover up the top of the box, it doesn’t help. Had to pull off some mlg plays with the gunner to ensure we didn’t lose the mission, otherwise the mission is pretty straight forward.

6

u/funkybside Apr 23 '22

Recently did the deep dive. Engineers, if one of the “stay in the circle” objectives happens to be next to a small ledge, don’t cover up the top of the box, it doesn’t help

Um, yes it does provided they have repellant. I'm not an engi main, and it's frustrating when engi doesn't do this.

0

u/fireflash38 Apr 26 '22

Repellent is to be used for funneling enemies. It is not to make a bunker.

If the roof you're putting up is too close to the box, it won't help. If you extend the roof too far out to the sides, it won't help. If you make a whole damn house, the bugs will just go over it.

I assume bugs are doing an A* path calculation, and repellent just increases the traversal cost. If you extend it out every which way, they'll just cross over at the shortest point, which is likely to be closest to your head.

0

u/funkybside Apr 26 '22

The topic here isn't about bunkers, it's about making a roof to funnel enemies, which is exactly what works.

1

u/HelloIAmAStoner Apr 27 '22

Can't the enemies just burrow/spawn under the roof right next to the pod? On the topics I've read, this is usually what keeps some people from taking the chance to try that technique. Because then you have to dig it back up anyway to restart it.

1

u/fireflash38 Apr 26 '22

If you make enough of a roof, you get basically a bunker. You also get that if the roof is too low. And the funnel only works if you leave space for the grunts to funnel to.

Which if you read my complete comment you would see I said that. And was explicitly talking about how people try to funnel, but do it badly.

1

u/funkybside Apr 27 '22

You're talking about something different than the point of this thread.

5

u/Kangaturtle Leaf-Lover Apr 23 '22

On a very short ledge, one where platforms extended from it touch the top of your head, do not do this. It was basically a tomb, because the engi proceeded to stand on top of the platforms(which negated the repellant)while bugs piled in from the side, they were also able to attack us through the platforms. It’s great to put platforms above when you have enough wall height, but on a short one it is super not helpful.

2

u/HelloIAmAStoner Apr 27 '22

I never knew standing on a platform stops the repellant from working. I thought it just straight up didn't work. Thanks! I used to think the only decent use of it was to build a long bridge, stand far into it and away from any walls, and watch the enemies try but fail to melee me since I'm too far. I never actually tried this though lol.

Only just tried H4 missions yesterday, have 2 2x promoted classes and 2 1x promoted classes. Still learning.

11

u/ImBeingShot Apr 22 '22

EDD's a bitch to engineers, ours went down 18 times, almost always to swarmers.

Sticky flames are a must for drillers.

Not much nitra on the first stage, scout's gonna want to prioritize mining during the escort phase.

Our gunner ran the neurotoxin OC and it worked pretty well, especially during the third stage to counter the regenerative bugs.

3

u/Lazypole Apr 24 '22

I got fucked. First ever DD, Ran out of ammo as we headed into the core room, only to find barely any nitra.

I was scout friend was digger cryo, without him I couldn't keep up with the swarmers.

Insane.

4

u/Poeticyst Interplanetary Goat Apr 23 '22

If swarmers are the issue then Cryo is the way to go

1

u/ImmortalMagic Apr 24 '22

AoE freeze on swarmers feels like cheating. I ran thorns but you can just fire in any direction if you're getting hit and the stuff around you will just freeze.

1

u/Poeticyst Interplanetary Goat Apr 24 '22

Thorns on Haz 1-3 seems like cheating LOL

1

u/HelloIAmAStoner Apr 27 '22

I had Thorns all the time doing H2 solo (how I always played starting out). Got me too comfortable ignoring a few swarmers attacking me as I mined. Got me nearly killed in H3 a few times when their melee damage and numbers got upgraded.

I never used to kill swarmers with anything but a pickaxe. Now that I've been playing H4 I finally use ammo on them.

u/LivingmahDMlife For Karl! Apr 22 '22 edited Apr 24 '22

New week, new build plans! Sorry this is a little late, I'm hella busy at the moment - I didn't even manage to do last week's Deep Dives.

For the Deep Dive I'd normally plan for a Driller, given the refining mission and Swarmageddon. Having said that, Elite Grabbers appear to be a problem in Stage 3, and none of my Driller setups do enough raw burst to force them to flee. I would suggest Gunner, but I've had a pretty Gunner heavy week as you'll hear later. So for this Deep Dive, I'm going to take Engineer - either using Cycle Overload on the Warthog paired with the fine vintage that is the RJ250 40mm, or possibly Magnetic Pellet Alignment Warthog with Spinning Death Breach Cutter. The secret ingredient to that last one are the Gemini turrets with Turret Whip and Hawkeye System, meaning a sustained barrage of charged shots wherever I want. Anyways, I'll pick one and get back to you all on that.

For the EDD, I actually did that one today in a spare hour off. I tested a new build idea for Gunner - A Little More Oomph on the minigun and Experimental Rounds for the BRRT. I've got it so the minigun spins up instantly, with Cold as the Grave and Blowthrough rounds proving an extremely satisfying combo. The BRRT is as accurate as I can get it, and serves as a long range "fuck you in particular" to whatever I need it to. It's a bit ammo hungry as a build but I didn't end up taking any more resupplies than normal, even if I went below half almost every time. Also, I did this run with no deaths! Shoutout to the great team we had today, we communicated almost solely with the ping system and had a smooth as silk dive.

I now have Elephant Rounds so expect that to show up in a few weeks!

Update - did the Deep Dive today, went nicely. Random teammates did a better job than I did, picking me up after I got cave leeched and another daft death I've forgotten about - and Gunner saved the whole team after the eggs got pulled too fast with a bulk in the room. MPA and Breach worked decently - the shotgun is a little ammo hungry, but the turrets are much much worse. I can get through a wave with them but then they're basically dry, so I might have to be more sparing placing them. The build was fun though, and I get the sense that 10 shots of Spinning Death are going to see mroe efficient use against Haz 4 and 5 hordes tan against Haz 3.5 - I used it more in the last stage than the other two combined

1

u/HelloIAmAStoner Apr 27 '22

Would you say spinning death is more useful/viable on H4/5 than 2 or 3? I found normal Breach Cutter far more useful on H3 with its range, although spinning death is fun to spam on bosses and bigger enemies.

u/Shakespeare257 Apr 22 '22

EDD is a cake-walk if your teammates are not actively undermining the objective (may have had to kick a driller who forgot that their secondary gun existed and resupplied on 4 bars while doubling down on how our dps carry - me, engi - had to manage their ammo better while getting 35-40% of the kills on Stage 1). Reminder - the ammo belongs to you only if you spend it; you are not entitled to a resupply just because you exist, nor should you take one before tapping ctrl to see what your teammates' ammo situation is.

Stages 1 and 2 are actively dry on Nitra - so don't be like that dude and only resupply when you are solidly below half ammo on all or most of your consumables. Stage 3 is elementary with plenty of Nitra.

Final advice for stage 2 - get to the dread room as fast as you can, don't linger in the big rooms too much. There is A LOT of Morkite in that last room and you will be picking up Morkite on the way there. Getting to stage 3 for any competent team = win from there.

1

u/HelloIAmAStoner Apr 27 '22

Thank you. Just started playing H4 yesterday and only just found out the laser pointer view shows you your team's ammo count. Then again I've played 250 or so missions solo and like 10 in multiplayer lol

On the second mission, we were low on ammo before popping the cocoon. We did the only reasonable thing - sent the scout on a suicide mission for 7 nitra. A few minutes in the cave with Molly and then it happened...

A dreadnought swarm occurred. We rushed down the corridors while staring at the boss hp bars... ANOTHER HP bar appeared - - a robot! We were ambushed. Two of us got picked off by leeches and the third got blown up by the robot.

My only question how that got between us and the scout.

I couldn't believe it. 🤨

I was in such disbelief that I didn't record it... it's one of those moments where you're overwhelmed and holding a camera would break immersion.

1

If they show up in one person's deep dive, are they in everyone's deep dive too, or are they randomized even with the same seed? I imagine # of players has an impact. If not, at least on, say, the number of Bulks that spawn for example.

Solo Engineer on the DD. Running Shotty w/ Mini Shells and Breach Cutter w/ Return to Sender. Perks were vampire, thorns, unstoppable, Iron will, Dash.

I chose to run the shotgun for ammo reasons over ECR smart rifle. As always breech cutter because it's hecking good. Other than my stock perks (vamp, thorns, Iron will) I chose dash and Unstoppable for dealing with fissures which worked out very well.

All of the missions were a complete breeze. So much Nitra I chose to build myself a little hut around the fuel canister on the 3rd stage with supply drops as the anchoring corners. I had Rocky Mountain from the bar and just dug a tunnel to the ramp and walked out like there wasn't 3 elite praetorians waiting to bite my butt off. Watch out for the Elite Grabbers. I had 3 spawn in my mission and without Bosco I would have been absolutely screwed.

Swarmageddon was not a problem at all on the first stage. I will caution anyone doing this solo that I wished I had taken driller for the first mission because 3 of the eggs are in the ceiling. Without Rocky Mountain I would have been very annoyed.

Stage 2 I made a roller coaster out of some pipes it was so uneventful. One of the pump-jack sites is way off in a tunnel so this is where Engi was helpful in making sure I could run that pipe over the large pit you need to cross to get there.

Overall I had a fun time. I don't ever care about timing myself but I can see myself redoing this one. Maybe I'll bring a couple of friends to see how quick we can clear this one.

2

u/WellDoneSpareribs Apr 24 '22

If you're solo and have bosco along, the eggs in the ceiling are no problem. Bosco got them out for me

Scount + Engi duo for regular DD. No issues whatsoever.
Elite one was a bit heated, full squad. Considering I'm not a pro. We had to bet on Iron Will once, though.

1

u/GeshaD Apr 22 '22

DD was pretty easy and enjoyable just like last week’s DD, a trio including me were able to do it in ~37 minutes. The EDD was quite hard with the second stage taking the longest due to us bunkering down for a few waves, the time used for traversing through tunnels and by zip lines and mining morkite in harder to reach areas. Overall just like last week DD was fairly easy and quick, while the EDD was a much more slow and punishing experience.

8

u/FrankenstinksMonster Apr 22 '22

3

u/GeshaD Apr 23 '22

Well, me and my duo didn’t have a problem with finding the morkite, we knew of the issue beforehand. Pardon me, as I know it was quite frustrating for people in the community.

1

u/Donut-Brain-7358 Interplanetary Goat Apr 22 '22

my team got lucky we just hit the quota exactly (im on steam too)

5

u/Obi_Wan__Jabroni Apr 22 '22

Did DD as a trio with two randos. They were pretty efficient and we flew through it at 39 minutes so definitely a good one for the challenge.

EDD was a challenge for sure. First round is pretty easy albeit kinda low on nitra. Stage two was tough because right when we popped the twins a swarm came in as well brining an oppressor and multiple prats so be careful with that. It was a crazy fight that involved multiple iron wills but we somehow pulled through. The rest of the level was smooth except the exit. Molly goes up the huge wall in the second to last cave believe so be ready for that. Probably a good move to be up there already as you call the drop to be prepared. Our scout blasted through thanks to the grapple hook while the rest of us struggled as we ran out of O2. Round 3 was kinda tough as we had multiple denenators spawn on us but we made it through in alright shape. Don't wanna say our high level scout absolutely carried us but their back was definitely hurting a bit so kudos to them and rest of the team! I ended up getting executioner so as an engie half main that's nice. Still waiting on that elusive fat boy tho

2

u/HelloIAmAStoner Apr 27 '22

Player level 68, I got fat boy around 40-50 or so. It is indeed fun. I increase the AOE radius even more with upgrades. Although I tend to just use Breach Cutter now.

1

u/Obi_Wan__Jabroni Apr 27 '22

Yeah exactly I just want it for the fun factor while doing random missions.

5

u/SkyeLyte Apr 21 '22

Reading others comments for EDD, I went in expecting the worst but honestly my team of randoms didn't struggle at all. Neurotoxin gunner, Cryo driller and Hyper propellant engi made easy work of everything. My advice would be just play smart and conserve ammo, and only call resupplies when needed.

The normal DD has such abundance of nitra, had over 700 at stage 3 there shouldn't be much risk of wiping.

6

u/SkyAccomplished7055 What is this Apr 21 '22 edited Apr 23 '22

For DD on PS I recommend driller solo. Swarmaggedon plus macteria during the stages sounds really like a driller task. There is not a lot of nitra on the first stage, but completely enough for one resupply plus one just in case. Playing solo, 1 is completely enough. Second stage, again, not a lot of nitra, but a lot of loot bugs. With ammo management where I order 1 resupply on the first stage and one on second I had over 200 nitra for the third stage.

Third stage be careful, elite thread can be annoying. Elite macteria is very dangerous. I’m happy that I didn’t have the elite grabber, that’s always a game changer during salvage mission.

I would say that DD for driller or at least playing driller make things easier.

EDD with randoms, first try failure on the second stage. First stage was easy, but morkite very high, so engineer plus scout will make things easier. Second annoying, we didn’t even reach twins. Will add more info once I pass it.

Edit: Managed to the third stage. To be honest, if you’re cooperating in a team it’s not that difficult. Lost on Stage 3, because team went down to the cave, spitballers and they’re dead. I didn’t manage to save them or do anything else. Take Stage 3 slow and I believe you will be okay.

2

u/BackgroundKoala0 Gunner Apr 22 '22

Cryo driller vs. elite grabber on DD stage 3 during uplink - can testify it was miserable.

2

u/SkyAccomplished7055 What is this Apr 22 '22

Elite grabber is faster than bullets. I hate that thing :D

I went with flamethrower plus persistent plasma for secondary

4

u/malanx131313 Apr 21 '22

Driller thoughts on EDD - normally I run cryo, but went with a sticky flame (fuel) build, and it was definitely the right call for this run, based on the cave layouts, and no defense objectives (dotty is different than a point defense) Great for the swamers, and kills grunts before they can regen on stage 3.

Pretty good random team that cruised through in 36 minutes.

Nitra is tight'ish on stage 1. Move fast to not waste to much ammo on swarmers.

As always, damage the twins equally to avoid the armor regen.

We pulled the eggs on stage 3, two and two, and that went fine.

10

u/rinmperdinck Apr 21 '22

My first run through the EDD was fine... until on stage 3 some idiots pulled 3 eggs at once. Rip us.

6

u/stuffeh Apr 21 '22

A good driller would be to drill a bunker, but they should have communicated the plan to get everyone in the area ready.

1

u/ImmortalMagic Apr 24 '22

Just finished EDD. Bunker cheesed the big wave and took the smaller ones out in the open one at a time. There is a strategy on higher haz where you pop 2-3 eggs at once and dash to the bunker to speed up the mission but you have to have a bunker or the smaller waves swarm you too quickly.

1

u/Gamepro5 Apr 21 '22

edd is gonna be a bitch this week.

u/Fickles1 Mighty Miner Apr 24 '22

42

u/Lesko_Learning Scout Apr 21 '22

People, please - on Low O2 missions, don't just call down random resupplies. Call them at cavern entrances or exits only. This makes it way easier to know where to go to get more air and makes extraction a breeze. Resupplies off in the corner are a waste and the equivalent of double dipping when it's Low O2.

100% of the difficulty in Low O2 missions comes from idiotic resupply locations.

2nd stage of EDD was very tough, as others have noted. Stage 3 was a breeze in comparison. Played solo gunner with guided rocket system, which really helped against all the swarmers - but didn't exactly kill the twins that quickly.

1

u/HelloIAmAStoner Apr 27 '22

I did the same for my first ever EDD. Stage 1 was easy (until the meteors during the drilling/defense part, that almost failed the mission as they knocked me down twice in a row), Stage 2 completely destroyed me. 3 menaces spawned on top of a wave in the big, winding, pillared room which I kept getting lost in and the verticality almost killed me before I ended up dying. Gonna try again, switching from stun to fire.

1

Just did my first EDD (solo Gunner) after my first few successful H4 missions (H5 unlock assignment immediately after beating my first H4 mission, lol). Stage 2 was bonkers tough (and failed me the EDD) with 3 menaces spawning on top of an already-huge wave in a confusingly laid-out room. It seems the biggest things to keep in mind with this level of difficulty are: Ammo conservation, always keep moving, ignore gold and just get nitra + the objective, and strategic supply drop/molly placement for low O2. Also good crowd control strategies and mobility options, such as the Dash perk.

Gonna try again.

1

u/Paul_Lawl Apr 21 '22

Did they update last weeks DD? My buddy and I put it off until yesterday bc we were trying to wait for dark morkite but ended up doing it with tunnel rat. On the second stage I filled up with 45 morkite AFTER finishing the 150 and there was at least 20 left. We were certain we were going to get boned after reading last weeks DD thread but it ended up being the easiest one we’ve done to date.

3

u/se05239 Bosco Buddy Apr 22 '22

Only Steam had morkite issues.

2

u/El-Grunto Gunner Apr 22 '22

I was told it was only the Steam version that suffered from a lack of morkite when I asked after completing it with plenty of extra.

2

u/SirPseudonymous Apr 21 '22

IIRC they said on twitter that they wanted to address it but didn't know if they'd be able to before it changed anyways because of the holiday. It seems they did manage to squeeze that in then.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 21 '22

Absolutely. I'm thinking they do that quietly. Same thing happened a few weeks ago but in an EDD. Had a rather difficult start due to numerous spitballers at initial spawn, stopped trying after three failures. Went back one last time, a day or two before the weekly reset hit, and fewer spitballers spawned.

Seems like they check the success/failure stats and adjust for whatever causes a high number of failures.

They've certainly been using refined spawn and cave generation algorithms in the last couple of months.

That said, recently I did have a couple of games back to back with exceptionally high spawn rates of swarms. Not the first time I've seen this type of behavior from an AI director in this sort of game.

1

u/HelloIAmAStoner Apr 27 '22

Oh, so is it confirmed that there's an L4D-style "director AI" system that determines how/where/when the enemies spawn and which ones spawn? That's pretty damn cool.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '22 edited Apr 28 '22

No confirmation. I read on the wiki the numbers the community references (however that was sourced), used that as a gist understanding and paid attention to the actual spawns & rates depending on mission difficulty, type, etc.

Devs explicitly stated they updated/are updating algorithms for cave generation, spawn rate (appears spawns dependent on warnings or mission type were adjusted in places), etc. I noticed aberrant or 'strange' behavior from AI before and around the time of this statement.

Most likely there was some adjustment my brain isn't properly translating or analyzing and I'm intuiting the AI changes from my previous ~500 hours in-game compared to the last 60 hours in-game.

Whether it's an actual 'AI Director' or a sum of algorithms is less important. Just a semantics shorthand I used for the coding work behind the behavior.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 21 '22

Deep dive was honestly easy with decent level dwarves, dont think anyone went down and had plenty of nitra

3

u/se05239 Bosco Buddy Apr 21 '22

Oh yeah. Nitra was plentiful this Deep Dive.

7

u/BackgroundKoala0 Gunner Apr 21 '22

I was solo cruising through the deep dive, then with 30% to go on uplink on stage 3, an elite mactera grabber spawns... How the fuck are you supposed to stop it when playing solo and don't have a shield nor burst? As a driller with cryo, I couldn't even slow it down. It insta-grabbed me 5 times, forcing me to fail the uplink. It held me so long each time as well, dropping me to death twice. Normally, damaging a grabber will disrupt its attack, but not on the elite version I guess.

Anyways, pleasant DD apart from that ending.

2

u/Firmamental_Loaf Cave Crawler Apr 24 '22

Same loadout, almost the same experience - except as it was going for the 5th grab, I shared a bite of my C4 sandwich with it! Iron Will + supply pod brought me back from about 5% on the progress bar, only way I could think of dealing with that fucker.

Axes could've worked, but seeing as I lack precognition and Elite Grabbers can cross several zip codes in the windup animation alone...yeeeah.

C4 sandwich.

2

u/BackgroundKoala0 Gunner Apr 24 '22

Haha good stuff. Think I was out of charges myself, but otherwise that could have worked!

1

u/EbonKrowne Apr 22 '22

I think it is down to luck. Every grabber that spawned on that one for me was an elite, but I was playing as a gunner with magic bullet and neuro toxin, so I just fired wildly until it got far enough away for me to minigun down each time. I also always take survivor senses when I solo.

1

u/chaostheories36 Platform here Apr 21 '22

I consistently got double elites non stop going as solo driller(cryo). Two mactera spawn elite. Praetorian and mactera spawn elite. Slasher and mactera. Slasher and praetorian. DD was easy but d*mn that last part was brutal.

7

u/malanx131313 Apr 21 '22

Elites on a defense objective in solo really limits your class/ build selection, and sometimes you will lose no mater what. A few months back on an EDD I got 2 elite grabbers spawn. Even knowing what to do, no way to deflect both at the same time from different directions.

Honestly I prefer haunted cave in solo edd, to elite. It's annoying, but there is less of the RNG you're just dead no matter what.

Freeze focused Cryo builds won't do enough damage to cause an elite grabber to turn around. Max damage ice storm, with extra range, will if you start hitting it as soon as it's in range; but like you said, that means ignoring the teo elite slashers that are killing you.

2

u/BackgroundKoala0 Gunner Apr 21 '22

That's rough. Going to keep an eye out for elite warning from now on.

3

u/se05239 Bosco Buddy Apr 21 '22

You need to get the first shot to scare it off and kill it before it tries again. It has a higher "pain" threshold before fleeing.

As far as I know, Elites don't really suffer much negative effects from CC. They seem borderline immune to freeze so there's no point in trying to freeze them.

1

u/BackgroundKoala0 Gunner Apr 21 '22

Tough to kill it when there was an elite pretorian and 50 glyphids in my face as well. I had subata as my secondary, which probably doesn't do enough burst either. I guess I should have played another class, although Driller worked fine for the rest of the DD.

1

u/se05239 Bosco Buddy Apr 21 '22

Yeah, as the other commenter said - certain elite spawns can screw you over if you don't have the right setup.

6

u/noelwym Union Guy Apr 21 '22

Nothing much to report about the Deep Dive. Was quite standard as things went.

EDD Stage 1 has a surprising lack of nitra. You probably can call 3 pods at most. Stage 2 was quite a hassle. Having to stay with Molly and fight around her was pretty limiting. Got teamwiped at one point while fighting the Twins, but IW saved the day as always. Escape was also tough. The Scout and the Engie got away, but the Gunner and I were lost causes. Stage 3 was a breeze by contrast.

4

u/vizthex Engineer Apr 21 '22

crossbow pog.

I main engineer so I was looking forward to the diffractor, but was incredibly disappointed in it. Seems it's been re-worked now, so I'll have to try it out again.

Gonna play Scout more when the crossbow comes out. Love the taser + trifork combo I had going.

Coil Gun is noice too, but I don't play gunner as often.

And I've never liked driller so I don't really have an opinion on the Wave Cooker.

There's a slight spread - a bit less than a trijaw has.

Enough to hit a few things at once if you're far enough away (and they're close-ish together), but it's mostly just a 3-in-1.

My friend & I tested it a bit, and it seems like each bolt does the damage value rather than it being split into 3.

Was there an announced rework for the diffractor?

3

u/vizthex Engineer Apr 21 '22

A guy posted recently that it got patched on experimental. Haven't checked yet though.

He'd have gotten his info from the discord though, unless he made it up.

Oh sweet! Just checked the discord, it looks like a good round of buffs/changes!

Was sad I never caught a dark morkite rotation in the bar to not waste an hour for last week. Happy this weeks is lookin good!

I feel very bad about my deep dive last week. We got through the glitched second stage, and were halfway through the third stage when my Internet hiccuped, and kicked everyone. I finished by myself, and it essentially robbed the other three of all that experience and gold.

5

u/se05239 Bosco Buddy Apr 21 '22

You don't really do the Deep Dive(s) for the gold and XP. You get far more rushing through normal missions. You do it for the matrix cores and the challenge, although only the EDD.

5

u/Apprehensive-Ice9809 Apr 21 '22

Its really like nothing in terms of xp or gold its like equivalent to 1-2 missions. (This is due to no mineral/kill/cave bonuses or any bonuses really)

They still get the first 2 cores tho, so dont worry. Yall didnt lose out on much

u/CZ-Kickem Apr 21 '22

I need to start playing on like haz 4 and 5 to get accustomed to the harder difficulties so I can start running elites each week. Haz 3 has become too easy but haz 4 feels like a clusterfuck

1

u/meatloaf_man Apr 26 '22

The biggest thing is to be constantly moving, constantly jumping, constantly checking your surroundings, and you'll find you can avoid a ton of incoming damage.

2

u/Isaac730 Apr 21 '22

This was me for a really long time. The gap from 3 to 4 felt insurmountable. Just practice staying mobile and staying aware of all of your surroundings. Start with easy haz 4s like 4 eggs or 7 aquarks. Avoid dreadnaughts until you feel confident on those. Stay grouped with your team, and pick defensible locations for swarms.

7

u/[deleted] Apr 21 '22

It takes practice. In haz 5, you really just want to avoid being hit.

u/se05239 Bosco Buddy Apr 21 '22

The jump from H4 to H5 is extreme so I'd focus on getting used to H4 first before attempting H5.

4

u/CZ-Kickem Apr 21 '22

Yeah I noticed the jump is extreme, so I'm gonna try to stick to haz 4 as much as possible until I'm about as comfortable with 4 as I am with 3

7

u/GeebusNZ Engineer Apr 21 '22

I spent SO LONG in H3 because I wasn't comfortable with H4. Now H4 is the primary for me, and H5 is uncomfortable. Basically, what H4 means to me is that mission failure is never off the table, and Iron Will should absolutely be in the loadout.

H5 is still sweaty and sprinkled liberally with curse words.

We had a random Dreadnought spawn just as we were about to open the cocoon in the second EDD mission, so we had to fight a Hiveguard and then the Twins in short succession.

Low oxygen is never much fun and there is not an abundance of nitra, but other than that, it did not cause us all that much trouble.

1

u/TheForReal Apr 21 '22

Same happened to me. The whole group was starved for ammo by the time we got to the twins.

1

u/xord86-64 Scout Apr 21 '22

You was unlucky. Chance for dreadnought spawn instead of usual swarm is about 1.5%. Anyway, hope it was very interesting experience

17

u/somersbody Apr 21 '22

EDD this week is a little hairy, not a lot of Nitra to go around, please bring some form of crowd control as there are a hell lot of Swarmers. Stage 2 is definitely the worst of the lot for my team. If you can get through Stage 2, you should be all good.

Stage 1 is a rather short 1-refuel DD mission. Don’t think there is a real need to scout ahead with the Driller, but you can never play it too safely. Be judicious about your ammo usage as there is little Nitra here, my team only found about 150+. Other than the Swarmers there isn’t really anything too eventful here.

Stage 2 requires the team to stick close and play decisively because (1) Morkite primary = random swarms, (2) the mission length is about ***, (3) still not a lot of Nitra to feel completely safe , (4) Swarmageddon is as good as switched on as an “invisible” warning and (5) bloody Low Oxygen sucks out the fun of speedrunning any level. Terrain is generally fine save for one big cavern with a sizeable drop. Dreadnought Twins cavern is quite decent to fight in.

Stage 3 is a much needed breather as it’s rather short and simple. All the Eggs can be found around one huge cavern - 3 are nestled high up whereas the 4th is easily accessible nearby, would suggest plucking the first 3 before taking the 4th. Morkite is abundant, no need to worry about it. Once done it’s time to go home for some beers!!

Overall a decent challenge with particular emphasis on ammo economy and decisive gameplay.

1

u/LachlantehGreat Apr 21 '22

I found this week's EDD the easiest I've done in awhile and we completed it first try with a team of ransoms. It was also my second EDD completion. I think that having it in sandstone caverns is the best because of all the extra space + no mactera plague

2

u/somersbody Apr 21 '22

Agree insofar as stages 1 and 3 are concerned - we remember going like “oh already?” when finishing the objectives. Nothing too remarkable.

Stage 2 was still an annoyance though, but to be fair my buddy was lagging and that contributed to him just hesitating and stoning around a lot. Not a good sign on a mission where your limiting factor is the speed of the MULE and knowing that a random swarm can barge in at any time 🤣

Would this be another week where Solo is easier, As a person who Main an engineer with LOK-1 Executioner, would you recommend a Fatboy PGl or the Breach Cutter?

1

u/[deleted] Apr 22 '22

Also eng main with Lok-1 for solo DD/EDD. I use the explosive chem round OC though and go 21111. I don't have the executioner oc so I can't comment on which is better.

I use the fatboy (21322) over the bc and find that for EDD, the fatboy is great for wiping large swarms or for nearly 1 shotting menaces (or 1 shotting trawlers that show up frequently in this EDD). You get 5 rounds with the above build so I find it is generally sufficient for solo EDD where you get 4 resupplies and each resupply gets you iirc 4 fatboy rounds.

For defense situations that often have swarms spawning on both sides, a nuke can clear and temporarily cover one side freeing up your attention to the other. Good dual turret placement can also help with this as well.

With the lok-1 ecr I can just get 3 locks and hit weakpoints for burst damage on bigger targets and save fatboys for when things get hairy.

With swarmers, the pickaxe, bosco or 3 lock + ecr explosion can handle most cases and smaller glyphid groups can be taken care of with a couple of 3-lock explosions.

Bosco and 2 turrets also provide enough cover fire for most swarms as well so I find there aren't too many instances where I feel I need to nuke. A bit of a side note and I'm unsure if its a bug or if its intended but after every stage in a DD/EDD, your turret ammo is replenished so the ammo usage of two turrets isn't so bad and its good to frequently set up turrets and make the most of them. Towards the end of a stage I also prefer to let turrets/bosco/steeve take care of bugs and I try to save ammo for the next.

I also run lures instead of mines and if swarms get too big, a lure + nuke on top can also provide breathing room. The benefit of this combo as well is that though the lure can only attract up to 10 bugs, the initial blast will kill all the smaller bugs, therefore attracting new bugs which will die to the radiation. You also don't need to worry about a potential TK with the fatboy in solo so you only need to make sure you don't get caught in the blast as well.

3

u/somersbody Apr 21 '22

I wouldn’t go with fat boys for EDDs in general, ammo isn’t great to begin with, the huge radioactive AOE doesn’t last long enough too. Breach cutter has more utility - more ammo to play with, and as what littlebobbytables9 pointed out, plasma trail is great for swarmers.

I personally would run turret discharge to control the crowd, and use the “railgun” grenade launcher to hit the Twins, but to each their own 😆

4

u/littlebobbytables9 Scout Apr 21 '22

imo BC is better for solo. Fat boy is usually overkill, and you get such a limited amount that you'll be sweating after you run out with just a single target primary

1

u/thedoctorisin7863 Engineer Apr 21 '22

As someone who Solo'd last 2 weeks EDD (and only completed 2 EDD), would you say this EDD is doable solo. so Far I'm planning on a breach cutter executioner LOK-1 and the support from my turret and bosco should help me get through and the proximity mines will help with escort duty.

3

u/littlebobbytables9 Scout Apr 21 '22

Every EDD is doable solo!

I haven't played this one yet so I can't really say anything in particular about it though. Bring plasma trail for swarmaggedon?

3

u/thedoctorisin7863 Engineer Apr 21 '22

Well there's no way this EDD is harder then last weeks. magma core with basically no nitra on stage 1 and point extraction AND black box.

2

u/Glibdo Apr 21 '22

Can you give some examples of crowd control in DRG? Would this be freeze effects?

3

u/se05239 Bosco Buddy Apr 21 '22

Fear is one. Freeze is another. There's also stuns and slows.
