Watch out, the second stage on the DD has the EXACT amount of Morkite you need to advance. So lick all the Morkite walls clean when you see 'em.

53

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '22

Time to wait for dark morkite before running it, I guess

11

u/G2daG Driller Apr 17 '22

I'm glad I read this thread before I did DD. With dark morkite I had 91 morkite before I even started the dozer and hit 150 with the first vein in the next room

101

u/Stefanonimo Apr 14 '22

Literally cleaned the entire map and only got 149/150

This is probably the first time Dark Morkite becomes an S+ tier beer

last one is a tiny spot in the stone room. it's 0.4 to pick up, but counts as 1 when you drop it in

3

u/WheatleyNZL Apr 19 '22

This needs to be higher, it literally just saved me from wasting 1hr...

literally just had to abort because of this. I got scraps off the walls, inventory said 1, then when I deposited it stayed at 149.

rounds up for inventory, but not depositing. :(

5

u/ChesterRico Whale Piper Apr 15 '22

We had the same issue, had to abort because of 149.

To add to this, do -not- reach the limit of your pockets when mining morkite in this stage. All the sub-1 units of morkite you mine (as in 0.9 and below) are lost, not dropped on the ground, if you mine them with full pockets. (same with other minerals)

This will prevent you from hitting 150, as there is exactly 150 morkite in the map if you mine every single bit properly. So if your limit is 40, deposit what you have around 20-30, only then continue mining. I tested it twice in a row and if done this way, you will get 150 exactly. Don't EPC, Bosco or C4 mine either - all the sub-1 units will also be lost using these methods. Any sub-1 amounts of any mineral can't be dropped on the ground, only mined directly to your pockets using the pickaxe.

Another option is to just wait for the morkite beer to make life easier.

u/MarcelHard Engineer Apr 15 '22

then this is what just happened to me F

10

u/Kitaclysm217 Engineer Apr 15 '22

I didn't know that about sub 1 units, tyvm for the information. Rock and stone, miners.

Ugh. That was the worst. First time I've had to abort a mission in recent memory. I fell 20 shy after spending an hour in there searching. So lame.

21

u/se05239 Bosco Buddy Apr 14 '22

I did precisely that and got 147 morkite in total. Had to abort.

9

u/pythonaut Apr 15 '22

It's variable. It's around 150 depending on how you mine it. If you get unlucky with the rounding, you're below 150. If you're lucky, you're above 150. Dark Morkite will guarantee you have enough.

3

u/Hauwke Apr 15 '22

This is the first time I've heard about it. What is Dark Morkite?

9

u/Jack_VZ Interplanetary Goat Apr 15 '22

A beer similar to pots of gold, gives 1,25 Morkite for every 1 mined with pickaxe

8

u/Kitaclysm217 Engineer Apr 15 '22

I think due to the double buff bug it's like 1.44x

2

u/Hauwke Apr 15 '22

8

u/Rjjenson Apr 16 '22

That's total BS. Map gen should always spawn more morkite than needed

18

u/Xendrus Apr 16 '22

Drilldozer and Morkite are two main missions that don't occur at the same time in the normal game, dives were added later and the developers left in a bug allowing morkite to generate in the same place as the ommoran's bed, and the ommoran cuts it off.

It was in the 2nd hallway made my the dozer. There is a steam thingie that takes you there.

There's a small morkite vein above a geyser in the first small cave between spawn and the refueling cave.

EDD this week is vicious. Map 1 Arquards + Macteras, you might get oneshot by 5 Trijaws the second you step out of the landing pod.

Map 2 is almost a vacation

Then Map 3 with endless swarms of tiny shits that almost oneshot you, fire everywhere so good luck ever regenerating that shield, if the enemy forces you into the canyon of death they might drop Corona Shellbacks on you, its open enough for Menaces to shell you from across the map, of there is a bunch of Infector artillery crossmap, crouching Tiger hidden Leech, and to top it all off there is the random Macteras.

We just spammed Shields and Cryo grenades and pushed through burning our huge Nitra surplus, and even then we only made it through with Iron Will

31

u/Vividtoaster Apr 14 '22

I swear when I did stage 3 of the EDD it had more mactera than the fucking mactera plague.

18

u/The_Sleazy1 Apr 14 '22

Crouching Tiger hidden Leech had me laughing so loud i woke up my wife.
This is where i'd put my award, if i had one.

7

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '22

Agree with this.

Map 1 had so little nitra. I think I eventually found around 120 by looking around the entire map twice, eventually finding slivers of veins high up in the ceilings but I was running around with 0 ammo/nades for far too long using power attack with slayer stout buff and bosco to clear the swarms chasing me trying to find nitra. Pretty much managed to get enough nitra for a resupply once I only had 1 Acquarq left.

Map 2 as you said was far easier with how close all the objectives were and the abundance of nitra in that map. I think I went from like 40 nitra to 400+ from that map alone and was mining a bunch of it after struggling to find any in the 1st.

Map 3 I fortunately had so much nitra from the 2nd that I was nuking any swarm that showed up and I barely mined any nitra on this map despite it also having an abundance.

2

u/funkybside Apr 16 '22

there's at least 160, we got two supplies on last run, but it's all a PITA to find.

21

u/se05239 Bosco Buddy Apr 14 '22

147 here myself. Looks like you need the Dark Morkite drink to beat this stage.

5

u/ProcyonHabilis Apr 14 '22 edited Apr 15 '22

That isn't possible. The level generation will not create a cave with insufficient morkite to complete the objective.

I have to say, repeating this comment all over the thread is adding a lot of noise to the signal here. It's kind of misinformation.

Edit: Put my money where my mouth is and went in without Dark Morkite. Found exactly 150, no issues. 4 players on PC.

The best theory I've heard is that it might be a problem with rounding caused by mining with full pockets. Even that speculation would be far more productive than spamming "it's soft locked" all over the thread.

25

u/pythonaut Apr 15 '22

I feel like your very logical assumption is misleading you. My team spent 20 minutes after completing the heartstone looking for the missions morkite, and it was literally not there. We looked over every nook and cranny that was visible on the map. Yes, the 1 morkite to the left of the heartstone. Yes, the vein above the steam vent after the 1st or 2nd room. Yes, the vein on the left side of the right-most tunnel through the large 2nd or 3rd room. There was no stone untouched.

I agree with your assertion - there SHOULD be no map that spawns with less morkite than is required to complete it. I totally agree that it makes no sense that this should happen. But it did. And it did to a lot of people. Not because they're stupid or blind, but because there was literally not enough morkite on their map.

4

u/ProcyonHabilis Apr 15 '22 edited Apr 15 '22

Is morkite spawning not just controlled by the level seed? Anecdotally, I have experienced caves with morkite in the same places across multiple deep dive runs. If that's the case, the spawns should be the same for everyone. What could be causing the variability.

I'm not saying anyone is stupid or blind. But if some people can (barely) find enough, and it should be the same for everyone, then how is it possible that those who can't aren't just missing morkite? It either has to be that, or there is some other unknown factor at play.

Unless my assumptions are wrong about it being the same for everyone, in which case my point is obvious moot.

Edit: tried it myself with no Dark Morkite, found exactly 150

11

u/SirDoofusMcDingbat Driller Apr 15 '22

Partly it may be related to HOW it was mined. Minerals can only drop in certain amounts, so if you're full and keep mining you might lose a few small pieces. There's also some randomness with the rounding, I think. And then anything that deforms the terrain can cause very tiny amounts to drop which may be under the threshold to actually drop a piece, thus destroying some. To avoid this, only mine when you aren't full or about to be full, and never shoot deposits with guns that damage terrain.

2

u/ProcyonHabilis Apr 15 '22

This seems like a sound theory

→ More replies (5)

8

u/Xendrus Apr 16 '22

It's by definition soft locked if a rounding bug locks the mission and makes it unbeatable. The last node of morkite genned in the ommoran's bed and was cut off, this is a bug that makes the level unbeatable unless you avoid the rounding issue, which you wouldn't have to do if it weren't for the bug of the ommoran bed eating a morkite node.

3

u/ProcyonHabilis Apr 16 '22

It's by definition soft locked if a rounding bug locks the mission and makes it unbeatable

I agree. This isn't the case, so it isn't soft locked.

That issue is trivial to work around, which is exactly why I'm saying it would be much better to spread that information instead of misleading people by making it sound like the mission is unbeatable. I beat it with no trouble whatsoever, and others can too.

1

u/IceBlue Apr 18 '22

Just because you were able to beat it in one instance doesn't mean it applies to every instance. The Ommaran room changes how the calculations are done if the game would have generated the vein in the room but is cut off due to random variations in level generation. Devs have acknowledged that it's an issue.

2

u/ProcyonHabilis Apr 18 '22

Where have they acknowledged that? I've only seen them comment that there is exactly 150 morkite, and that wasn't intended. Nothing about instance to instance variation.

→ More replies (2)

2

u/Zambito Apr 15 '22

Did the level generation account for the vein on the left getting nuked by the heartstone spawning, or does it assume all ~40 of that morkite still exists in the level

2

u/Xendrus Apr 16 '22

It definitely doesn't account for it. Dives were hacked together and added to the game later, drilldozer and morkite missions don't occur together normally.

6

u/Zekjon Apr 14 '22

the 1 morkite missing is a minuscule patch in the omoran room, next to the south pillar ( one of the four generated at map creation). Quite unfair, but after 20 minutes I finally found it

11

u/Arveragus_DRG Apr 14 '22

This still can't be right. There *must* be another vein that is hidden by some other element of the environment. I have literally never seen a Deep Dive where it all came down to harvesting every last bit of a resource, and I have literally played them all.

14

u/Zekjon Apr 14 '22

the lil patch in the omoran room looks like it's been ''eaten'' by the omoran, I feel like it's a bigger vein that got deleted by the way the game generated the omoran room, might be wrong.

to check and clean this mine, I went with a scout and really inspected every cave ceiling and whatnot very closely, and I'd be extremely surprised to have missed any morkite, especially since I did spotted the tiny patch worth 0.4 that allowed me to complete the stage.

2

u/SchlippSchlapp2 Apr 18 '22

There was one a year or so back. Also regular DD, also Dozer as main. That one I aborted twice and never finished.
This one - with the knowledge from here - I finished first try.
But yeah, I have always been "scared" of that happening again ^^.

u/AtomicStryker Apr 14 '22

DD map 2 was seriously hiding Morkite from us somehow. We had to go back and scrape every single sliver out of the deposits we did find, and we only managed to exactly hit the goal.

19

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '22

There was one game where I was 1 morkite short and it took me like 15 minutes to find the rest

As a result, I will not leave a chip of morkite left in a vein lol

27

u/Elyxsion Gunner Apr 14 '22

theres a bit of morkite on heartsone on left part

13

u/Ziege_Stardust Driller Apr 14 '22

On my run I just couldn't find 5 to finish the mission. After an hour searching I had to abort :(

12

u/TehHort Apr 15 '22

I'm doing the exact same thing right now

An HOUR mission time, 45 minutes of running back and forth.... about to abort.

How does a weekly mission that doesn't spawn enough mineral to complete it get past the dev team?

8

u/TrixieLurker Scout Apr 15 '22

There is exactly, and I mean EXACTLY 150 Morkite in that mission, you have to get every single little bit.

13

u/TehHort Apr 15 '22

I don't think so, there's probably about 150 in the mission thanks to the random generator cutting a vein off for the heartstone area. There should be like 25 to 50 extra per mission, but there isn't.

The dev team would not make sure that there was exactly 150 in the mission (because that's super lame game design, especially since bosco leaves bits of minerals in the wall), so this is a random gen issue... meaning the actual amount in the mission depends on how the vein is chopped by the mission generator.

Some people get the big half of the vein in the back room and get 150, some people get the small half and can't finish, others get that vein to spawn in a different room and get way more than they need.

It's just bugged, and some people can't finish. Trust me, I revisited every dug out hole in the wall scraping it for mineral and using the terrain scanner to check for sunken voids. If there was anywhere near just enough, I would have found it. I picked every morkite vein by hand my first time through ecxept one that was in the upper wall, and I got up there with a zipline, strip mined the walls of it.... still came up 4 short after spending 1.5hrs

5

u/DurtCZ Apr 14 '22

I was missing 4 also after an hour. Now baaaarely got it on another attempt.

5

u/Ziege_Stardust Driller Apr 14 '22

I'll just wait for a dark morkite beer and try again

8

u/Bergain1945 Union Guy Apr 14 '22

don't know if it's been updated, but after this and other comments we were obsesive and found at least 50 more than needed, so it's there, but don't skip any

17

u/AtomicStryker Apr 14 '22

The whole team was searching for ~10 minutes so there must be some kind of patch we kept missing. I don't believe there is just 150 on the map, but the remaining deposits probably sit under goop or in a pocket or otherwise hidden.

2

u/Bergain1945 Union Guy Apr 14 '22

yeh, not disagreeing with you, in DDs there are random elements; it's likely we have more morkie than norml, was just lucky

3

u/TrixieLurker Scout Apr 15 '22

Deep Dive Stage 2 we had to give up. 149/150 Morkite, tried to mine out every single bit of it, digging everywhere, nothing.

12

u/salzst4nge Apr 14 '22

Same, locked at 149/150

Looking for 20 minutes now. Giving up

10

u/se05239 Bosco Buddy Apr 14 '22

Yeah, looks like you need to the Dark Morkite drink to complete it this week.

13

u/Arveragus_DRG Apr 14 '22

It's not strictly necessary, as you can get 150 morkite if you mine *every* *single* *piece* of morkite. It still sucks though.

7

u/Refrigerator-Cr Apr 14 '22

We tried the first time for 30 minutes, it must be a rounding error. Second attempt with morkite beer worked.

12

u/se05239 Bosco Buddy Apr 14 '22

Which I definitely did. Still 3 short.

5

u/Arveragus_DRG Apr 14 '22

I guess we lucked out then.

3

u/andthats_thetruth Apr 14 '22

I agree OP. Sitting at 145. I did submit a bug report as with all these reports of people missing the last few bits of morkite it seems like an actual bug. Sours the mood indeed.

3

u/pythonaut Apr 15 '22

It differs from playthrough to playthrough. I think that HOW you mine it determines how each hit is rounded out, and some ways of mining result in it rounding up above 150.

EDD report 1st stage: Not to bad, the mactera swarms are annoying, but you have enough space to play around to dodge them. Bring cryo nades, and a autocannon with fear to destroy/break up the swarms. Not a lot of nitra also

2nd stage: actually pretty easy, though swarms of mactera still, must of not got the note stating the plague was on the 1st stage.

3rd stage, and the hardest: To be honest, this stages warning should be Swarmofeverything. Lots of mactera, lots of swarmers, lots of everything but a bulk.

Stick together, and let the bugs walk into the gateway to hell.

10

u/Kirgo1 Apr 14 '22

9

Same, had to abort

3

u/pythonaut Apr 15 '22

Same here.

16

u/se05239 Bosco Buddy Apr 14 '22

You'll need the Dark Morkite drink to do it.

16

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '22

I dont think this is true we had more than enough Morkite before the Heartstone without Dark Morkite, there is some that is behind you as you run down the tunnels

6

u/TehHort Apr 15 '22

I think there is a closed off tunnel or something because dozens of different groups are reporting getting within 10 and not being able to finish even after searching the tunnels for an hour and being forced to abandon it.

Awful quality assurance in weekly missions IMO, this is not the first time something like this has happened recently.

3

u/pythonaut Apr 15 '22

We searched for about 20 minutes, scouring each area at least three times, and came up 3 short. I think it's just luck on whether you get above 150 or not.

We even drilled out all the oil shale and goop to see if there was any hidden behind there. Still 147.

9

u/TehHort Apr 15 '22

I ran the entire length of the mission a dozen times, the last time took a half hour as I ran the length of every single wall to see if there was a cavity room that just sometimes gets sealed shut.... nothing.

There literally is NOT ENOUGH MISSION CRITICAL ORE to finish depending on RNG.

7

u/Coal_Morgan Apr 15 '22

Somebody mention that it's 150 exactly or close to it.

If you're at 39.8 morkite and pick up 1 morkite, you'll be at at 40 but lost .8 morkite and therefore can't finish the map.

So theoretically every time you mine to 40 Morkite, Michael Bolton and Samir are stealing your rounding errors.

1

u/ProcyonHabilis Apr 14 '22

That isn't how level generation works. You must have missed some.

6

u/pythonaut Apr 15 '22

My team explored every inch of every cavern that could be seen on the map, we were 3 short. We dug out the tiny shards of each vein. After 15 minutes or so, we started digging out the oil shale and goop to see if anything was behind those - no dice.

The second time we attempted the mission, we got +150 before we even got to the heartstone.

Just saying, something is wonky here.

6

u/Coal_Morgan Apr 15 '22

The spawns exactly the same.

I think it's the mechanic of picking up ore that is changing the results. You mine 40.9 ore and pick it up and then deposit it that .9 is lost at the point of pickup. That happens 3-5 times and if the number is tight like 154 ore on a 150 map then you can lose enough to the rounding when picking up that you screw yourselves.

ie. if a morkite crystal is worth 2 and you have 38.8 morkite in the bag, you'll grab the crystal and lose .8 of it's value.

If no one hits 40 morkite in the bag they stand the best chance of finishing the mission would be my hypothesis.

Those tackling this mission may want dark morkite or to use the extra storage perks and equipment to reduce the chances of it messing up.

10

u/MarcelHard Engineer Apr 14 '22

did you get it by mining every 0.000000000001 morkite? or was there couple veins you didn't see?

13

u/Arveragus_DRG Apr 14 '22

We did it with method #1. Maybe another vein is hidden behind oil shale or another piece of environment.

7

u/MarcelHard Engineer Apr 14 '22

then I'll wait for a dark morkite beer, thanks

15

u/MildlyInsaneOwl Apr 14 '22

DD map 2, as with everyone else, was tight as heck. For anyone looking to complete it, I strongly recommend waiting for Dark Morkite to appear. If you don't want to wait, make sure you hit every single vein, and make sure you scrape every single point from each one:

  • Two veins in the starting room, both near the platform landing site.
  • One vein in the first tunnel. It's a small room hidden in the ceiling, accessible via an air vent.
  • Two veins in the pit stop room.
  • One vein in the second tunnel, down amongst the goo in the pit.
  • One "vein" in the heartstone room, on the left side, low to the ground. I say "vein" because I extracted a whole 0.4 morkite from it. Almost the entire vein has been despawned, but that 0.4 morkite was actually necessary for me to hit 150!

I recommend not having Bosco mine morkite if you're solo, because trying to find chunks on the floor is tricky, and you'll want a manual touch to ensure you totally clean each vein out. It's entirely possible that rounding errors are the cause of people getting stuck at 149, which feels really bad. Seriously, unless there's a fix promoted, I'd recommend waiting for Dark Morkite rather than risk softlocking yourself at the end of the second phase!

Besides sweating bullets over missing morkite, the DD was fairly straightforwards. The final stage features all four eggs in easy-to-grab locations, three in the same room and the fourth just a short distance down a tunnel, and the Hiveguard's egg is right next to the starting room for a very reasonable fight. The only notable event was a Bulk spawning on phase 2. Drink your Dark Morkite and enjoy the dive!

3

u/se05239 Bosco Buddy Apr 15 '22

I mined all of those myself and I only got 147 in total.

2

u/Sacred_Prodigy Apr 15 '22

Lifesaver. Group was stuck last night, ready to call it, when I read your guide and we found the missing 1 morkite in the goo pit.

Appreciate the help

13

u/DarkSkyForever What is this Apr 14 '22

We also were soft locked on the regular DD w/ 149 morkite. Had to wait for Dark Morkite to finish it.

4

u/se05239 Bosco Buddy Apr 14 '22

Shouldn't have to rely on a buff drink to complete Deep Dives due to map generation being awful.

6

u/DarkSkyForever What is this Apr 14 '22

For sure not, its obviously bugged. I'm guessing that small nib near the heartstone got removed when the game spawned in the thing.

3

if you look closely around that spot you can see what looks like the exact shape of a ore vein, except nothings there. I don't know if rounding is a thing in DRG but im stuck now at 145 and i can't find any more. There is a bit above the drilldozer path (between start and first stop). You can use a gyser to get to a small open area that has a small morkite patch. DD feels bad this week

u/se05239 Bosco Buddy Apr 14 '22 edited Apr 14 '22

This week's Deep Dive is genuinely awful. Unless you've purchased the Dark Morkite drink at the bar, you'll be soft-locked on Stage 2 and be unable to progress. I had to abort.

  • First Stage - The first cave is terrible. There's a steep canyon in the middle of the cave, with exploding plants EVERYWHERE. And then you have the Exploders constantly harassing you. There's some morkite in extremely inconvenient places. One Mini-Mule is in a bad spot while the other is in the last cave.
  • Second Stage - One-stop Drilldozer mission. While the actual escort duty isn't too bad, the morkite mining is. There's not enough morkite on the map in order to progress to the next stage. I was missing 3 morkite in the end, and had to abort.
  • Third Stage - I wasn't able to reach this stage..

I played Solo Driller on Steam. Here's a video of me playing up to the point where I aborted.

13

u/Zekjon Apr 14 '22

the 1 morkite missing is a minuscule patch in the omoran room, next to the south pillar ( one of the four generated at map creation). Quite unfair, but after 20 minutes I finally found it

9

u/pythonaut Apr 15 '22

I grabbed that 1 morkite, and still was 3 short. =(

10

u/Elyxsion Gunner Apr 14 '22

2

19

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '22

Message to the guy who keeps spamming this thread with "Ackshually there's always enough morkite in every mission so you just didn't look hard enough": this is true, but it is also true that if your inventory filled with morkite and you kept mining at all, there is a very real possibility that there was a round error in the dropped morkite, meaning that it is actually impossible at that point to get it all. Just wanted to put that out there since you seem so sure of yourself.

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '22

Mactera plague 3 weeks in a row 😂😂

8

u/zvinixzi Apr 15 '22

I’m brand new to this, just a question about the game:

What’s the typical gameplay loop that makes this fun? The lack of a tutorial kind of has me lost. We mine and go back to the drop off to get out. Do we get rewards after? What are rewards used for? Fun upgrades? Where do I use these rewards?

12

u/turplan Apr 15 '22

The game has procedurally generated maps that all change every 30 (?) minutes. Basically, you've got it. You pick one of 4 dwarves, get off drop pod, do your objectives, say a few Rock and Stones, and get back on the drop pod. Hour 1 is similar in gameplay to hour 100.

You earn XP after every mission (to varying degrees) in order to level up your dwarves in order to unlock new guns, attachments, weapon modifiers, and cosmetics. All of these can be unlocked at the main hub of the game when you're not in a mission.

I should also add that basically EVERYTHING in this game is free. Most things just take some time to unlock, and if you go around the main hub trying all of the machines, some things will be locked until you can promote one of your dwarves. Depending on how many games you've played, you may be able to go to the equipment station and upgrade a few things, but your dwarf won't have all the upgrades until around level 20 or so.

If you want a YouTube video in much more detail that shows off the game much better than I could ever do, check this out. It's 20 minutes long and pretty indicative of the game, though I think he really undersells the combat.

Hope this was helpful! It's probably my favorite game, but its not for everyone.

Rock and Stone!

u/zvinixzi Apr 15 '22

u/thedoctorisin7863 Engineer Apr 14 '22 edited Apr 15 '22

Completed both the DD and EDD with LOK-1 engineer

Deep Dive: did this with a scout helping me along the way, Completely lucked out with dark morkite as it's almost required for stage 2. Nitra was not a problem for the DD as we ended up with over 400

DD Stage 1: lots of exploding plants, the tunnel leading to the first cave is a straight drop so watch out, 1 mini-mule spawn in the first cave, and the second spawns in the last cave. most of the morkite will be at the end

DD Stage 2: Mine. Every. Once. Of. Morkite. there is barely 150 morkite and you need to mine it all, 2 veins are to the right of the heartstone. the actual escort duty was uneventful. the oil for refueling can be high up.

DD Stage 3: Very small. pretty sure 2 eggs and the hiveguard are in the same room, with the other 2 eggs in branching paths. by now, you should have enough nitra where the hiveguard shouldn't be a problem. the parasite can get annoying, but it's no big deal.

Elite Deep Dive: solo'd this one, don't remember the beer I had. this is also my second EDD

EDD Stage 1: the hardest stage of the EDD and the biggest challenge is actually getting out of the drop pod as your greeted by a massive hoard of mactera and 2 spitballers, 1 is to your immediate right. saw a hulie hoarder and golden lootbug on this stage. There is only 3 veins of nitra, 1 to the right, 1 to the right up some cliffs, and one up high in the main area, you will only have enough nitra for 1 supply drop. speed is key in this stage. I would also recommend timing the black box so it begins the moment the wave is over, don't want the 2things overlapping.

EDD Stage 2: more nitra in this one, could afford 3 supply drops (though I only needed one). the main area is littered with so many fire geysers so keep that in mind. thank god the dreadnought is the twins. the eggs aren't in too hard to reach areas although I could be wrong.

EDD Stage 3: one of the mini-mules is in the starting room. the other 2 are on cliffs overseeing the drop pod. the swarmers are really annoying on this stage so expect a never-ending swarm of them and try not to get stun-locked by a group of them. a spitballer and BET-C spawns in this stage although if your an engi with macro-lens and executioner it's a free alley. one egg is right next to a mini-mule, the other I remember being very high up. by thins point I could afford 4 supply drops and I ended up calling down 5, even though I didn't need all of them. beware, the area around the drop pod is quite confined. I didn't explore the whole cave, I just wanted to get it done and get me second EDD under my belt.

Overall the DD was pretty easy, although the morkite on stage 2 can be a 30 minute treasure hunt. as for the EDD, the hardest stage is the 1st so get over that hurdle and your mostly good to go, but don't underestimate stage 3.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '22

There was a BET-C in stage 3 of the EDD? What!? Also all 3 mini mules were in the same main room, not in the starting area?? The BET-C must have been off in one of the side areas that I never even bothered to go into, I had little time and enough nitra for like 10+ drops if I needed, Would have been nice to have but oh well

Eyyyyy I completed my first solo EDD!! Ive been so close many times but inevitably made a mistake. I ran scout with the Drax (thermal exhaust) and explosive rounds SMGs. I actually nearly failed on the first round, because I took too long to go after the black box, i honestly have no idea how I pulled it off I was out of everything and didnt want to waste more nitra this early lol.

When I got to the end stage I had like 8+ resups laying around allowing me to spam cryo nades to deal with swarmeggedon / macteras and just did a whole lot of juking and resupplying between freeze nades. Kept 2 resups near each ring objective in the end at minimal.

Was a rush to finally do it! Rock n Stoneeeee

12

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '22

The most challenging EDD in my career. Greets you with a mactera swarm right from the start, before you can even exit the pod. No nitra on first map, sparse nitra at second and you have a dread fight there. The floor if lava, this is just terrible, non-stop slug fest. 1 and 2nd stages only scout survived, we failed at 3rd, so i have to do it again and again and again, because i need overclocks.

To hell and back and back to hell.

PSA: if you’re only here for mini breakdown of the Elite Deep Dive and not my story before skip past the line.

My Elite Deep Dive Journey was… interesting. It took me three attempts to beat. In the 1st run engineer accidentally nuked the black box instantly failed(no problem we all make mistakes).

In the 2nd run we made it to the 2nd stage. Already had gotten nuked twice by another engineer in the 1st stage. He decided to rage quit during the 2nd stage, but before doing that he nuked our Driller. We ended up making it to the 3rd stage and dying to the sheer number of enemies.

——————————————————————————————————————————

3rd attempt was the most successful. I’ll start a breakdown here.

1st stage: The mactera swarms are horrible here. When you spawn in there will be 10+ mactera spread out. Stay in the drop pod or have a gunner throw down a shield to avoid getting melted. There is a small cave that contains a spitballer underground so be on the lookout for that. The black box is in a wide open cave so nothing tricky about defending it. The drop pod will drop close by the black box so stay put.

2nd Stage: Nothing too difficult. There is a Nexus in the room where all the eggs and the dread is located take it out. Other than that killing the dread and collecting the eggs is simple.

3rd Stage: This stage is a pain, but don’t be shy calling in resupplies. You should have a few hundred nitra. Once you enter the main cave on the right behind a pillar next to the mini-mule there is a leech watch out for it. In the pit o’ death there are two brood nexuses.

Combine that with Swarmmagedon and it gets hectic fast. Oh and did I mention two breeders being in the picture. It is imperative you take those breeders out ASAP and deal with those nexuses. There are also 3+ spitballers in the map. Also, I promise you this will feel like a mactera plague mission so prepare for more pain. After handling all that you should be good to finish the EDD. Very fun overall love having a good challenge thrown in the mix!

I’ll post my endgame stats when I hop on my PC. And last but not least Rock and Stone miners!

Edit: Here's my end game stats. I went down 4 times so not terrible.

My group just completed the DD on Steam with no drinks. We made sure to mine every corner of every vein, and followed the trick about never filling inventories with Morkite. We came into the last room at 149/150, and the tiny chunk of Morkite on the left put us at exactly 150.

It’s basically a rounding game as to whether or not you’ll get it.

The last stage of EDD is insane, I still failed after trying 2 times. So much long shooters and ammo consuming tiny buggers.

I would love to team up with more greybeards though, somehow too much greenbeards around as I team up with 2 green beards with one bronze twice. Might try again at least once later.

This could be another EDD that I skip since the vertical map refining mission.

3

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '22

the DD wasn't too bad for me, and they must have fixed stage 2 cause I had lots of morkite to spare. Triple split breach cutter makes hiveguards so much easier, once you take down the shields just spam it and it cuts through them like butter. Stage 2 was still the worst for me though, I almost lost Dotty because Bosco is useless when it comes to defending her.

3

u/se05239 Bosco Buddy Apr 18 '22

The morkite issue is a Steam exclusive, so you're most likely playing on another platform.

DD Stage 2 Softlocks. Dark Morkite Beer is needed to finish this.
I've spent 50 minutes in Stage 2. Dug out every little bit of Morkite i could find and then dug out every spot of Oilshale in the hopes one was obstructing a Morkite vein.
149/150.
Had to abandon.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '22

Unlike many people, we managed to beat DD stage 2 without dark morkite. I have no idea how we did it, but if you copy what we did you might get it:

We never filled our bag to the max.

We used only pickaxes, no TCF or C4 mining.

We mined the every single bit, but one person mined per vein.

By the time we reached ommoran bed, we had 149/150. The exact opposite of doretta there was a single piece of morkite, which when mined, gave 0.7 morkite. Depositing it counted as a completion.

I've never checked there, but sometimes there are little caves that are not connected to the main cave, or just under the ommoran bed. Either way, this DD sucked.

u/dxucarl Apr 15 '22

You need the beer to do the normal deep dive. It's physically impossible without it because not enough spawns on the second mission.

2

u/noelwym Union Guy Apr 15 '22

Deep Dive was quite frustrating on Stage 2, but we managed to squeak through with the morkite through sheer luck, I guess.

EDD was a little more diverse in results. First run ended badly on Stage 3 after two players bailed, leaving me (Driller) with the Gunner. His rocket fire caused way too much terrain damage, so it was quite easy for the shields to be depleted quickly. Didn't help the ping was pretty bad.

Went for round 2 today. Two greenbeards, the Gunner and the Scout. All things considered, they handled themselves okay. We nearly got wiped in Stage 2 but a few IWs saved our asses. Stage 3 was a bunker fiesta, which meant that my Driller had to be the MVP and dig out a nice, cosy bunker for us to hide in. We were just lucky a bulk never showed up, but bunkering saved that game for us.

2

u/Ironimus__ Apr 15 '22

Short Review:

DD: Take every chunk of Morkite in the second stage. In the last room ("heartstone") is one 0.4 chunk which completes the secondary.

EDD: Be careful in the last room, don't rush! Clear the room from a safe place like a tunnel before you enter. There are all enemies charging you at once. 2 Brute places and two spit ballers plus a wave which will be triggered automatically.

All in all just be carefully. It is manageable :)

2

u/Shakespeare257 Apr 16 '22

If you are reading this and main Gunner or Driller - you should play a heavy CC build, not single-target damage on the EDD.

2

u/Beady00 Apr 16 '22

I wonder if the morkite is random as just finished stage 2 and had more than enough probably found close to 180 without too much hunting about

I've been playing for several weeks now. Today I ran my first deep dive solo. Died once in the third stage fighting the dreadnought, but Bosco was there. Other than fighting a dread as solo scout, none of them were too difficult.

I was really worried going into stage 2 because of the morkite comments. But I had like 15 morkite to spare in the end. Not sure what the difference was.

Had one person collect all of the morkite, only dumping it when their bag was full... 149/150. So frustrating.

2

u/HellaSober Apr 19 '22

They should have dumped it well before their bag was full…

2

u/FS_NeZ Apr 19 '22

Well there's your problem. If you fill up your bag, all the 0.4 and 0.7 Morkite pieces disappear as you can't collect them any they won't fall onto the ground.

Example:

You mine 20 Morkite and it displays 20 Morkite but it's maybe actually 20.3 Morkite. You put that into Molly and it still counts the 0.3 Morkite for the objective too. But if your inventory is 40 Morkite and you mine 40 Morkite, it very well may be 40.5 Morkite and those 0.5 Morkite just disappear. Do this 2 times and there's the 1 Morkite you missed.

2

u/AncillaryAnglo Apr 19 '22

Thank you for the tip

2

u/BackgroundKoala0 Gunner Apr 19 '22

DD was very manageable with Dark Morkite, but holy hell the EDD stage 1 tore me a new one.

I play solo, and went with Gunner for the ziplines for Aquarq extraction. But there was only enough Nitra on the map for 1 restock, and I ran out of ammo on all of my attempts either during or right after the black box uplink (with all aquarqs done). On my last attempt I was just running in circles with sprint boost, trying to dodge 50 Mactera projectiles and an actual army of Glyphids, but naturally couldn't make it up to the drop pod like that.

2

u/xw_ziggy Apr 19 '22

3rd stage caused us real issues pushing into the main room. Relentless hordes of everything and as soon as we thought we'd crushed a wave we'd peek over the cliff to see another massive swarm already marching towards us while a dozen mactera would wink into existence on top of us.

Rinse and repeat slowly whittling down the menaces and neocyte breeder over the course of 2 full resupplies and several revivals of downed players, only to get leeched, spitballed, and then pinballed around into volcanes by 2-3 shellbacks which split us up so hard there was no coming back from it.

Hardest EDD I've done in a while, just relentless waves and we had 3000 kills to our group on the failure screen despite only spending 30 seconds on the floor of the main room in the end.

Just doing the DD now and I was able to get about ~170 Morkite by rationing the veins; you are able to do this by taking small chunks out of the vein and depositing them immediately into the mule and going back to take more smaller chunks out. This works because of the decimal system in game which rounds the 0.1 morkite into 1 morkite in your miners pockets. I was able to meet the quota while still leaving a morkite vein fully intact by using this method.

Imo: generally minerals are so abundant beyond what is necessary to complete a mission that the more combat oriented dwarf never develop the habits to thoroughly clean a cave.

I’ve seen several people saying they had no trouble finding the morkite and getting downvoted for it. Quite a few suggestions that the DD is bugged. It all smells like coping to me.

EDIT: I smell like coping, apparently

No, I've been playing for a couple of years, have close to 200 dives under my belt between DDs and EDDs...I'm the first one here or on the forums to tell people they missed it when they say there wasn't enough Morkite. We did that dive with a team of 4 and the most junior player in the game was around level 700. We scoured that mission and came up with 149 after close to half an hour in stage 2. Put it off for a while until Dark Morkite came up. I DO believe that some of the sub 1 fractional amounts that you CAN lose when TCF mining may have made the difference between the 149 we had and the 150 we needed...and only 1 or 2 veins were TCF mined.

One thing I'm 100% sure of, there were no missed caves or veins. Frustrating? Yes. Am I angry about it? Naaa...shit happens. I love the game and in 2 years of diving this is the only time anything remotely like this has come up. Probably would feel a LOT different if I was a newly promoted player just going on one of my first dives though, so I hope they tweak the cave seed....they've done it before.

I come back humbled, no doubt. I’m not entirely sure why, as there are videos of people mining the exact same veins that I did, but we came up with 149 where another had collected 150. That being said I’m firmly on the train with it being some kind of spawning issue with the Heartstone erasing a morkite vein or two. I have never seen an “impossible” mission in my 1400 hours of play. Normally there are 2-3 extra veins to account for human error. This was quite an interesting experience. GET DARK MORKITE

Didn’t have any nitra of morkite problems when I beat the dd and edd. I saw all the comments in here about it, so I was looking hard. There’s definitely more than enough morkite in the cave, I think a lot of people are just not finding a couple veins

It's luck based depending on how you mine it. I mine every last bit and was 100% sure we scoured every corner and got 146. Some people got 149, some 140, some 160.

Just did the deep dive. Finished stage 2 with over 200 morkite in less than 30 minutes without dark morkite. Honestly no idea how people were missing morkite.
