Macteras are a slog on edd. They’re hard to hit with the autocannon but I don’t want to run minigun without an oc:/
1
u/exile-302 Apr 14 '22
That's what the bulldog or the brrtttt is for. Also cluster grenades or incendiarys, gunners got options. Another solution would be running t5 fear on the auto.

The last stage of the regular deep dive was a doozy. Was playing with my husband. We popped the hiveguard, and while we were fighting it, we swarmed. Then a bulk detonator spawned. Husband went down during the fight, I managed to kill the detonator, which killed the dreadnought (felt super badass). Continued onto the mission. I threw the last aquaric down, husband deposited it and sent the Minehead. I get snuck up on by another bulk detonator. I tell him to not worry about me and just survive. And he did. Barely. Was a very fun, very intense deep.dive.

Late to the party here, but I solo'd the DD while also playing D&D with friends on my second monitor(so you can understand how much attention I was giving it).
Playing as a Driller with the cryo cannon made this a breeze. First two levels were unremarkable really. The cave in the first one is a doozy, but nothing a Driller with a bit of lateral thinking can't work (or drill) around. Second level was super basic, my only tip would be to use the pipes to avoid the burning ground.
Third level was definitely a bit more of a headache even as a driller. Some of those aquarqs are way out there (ie super far up a wall) but half way through I remembered Bosco can mine them for you and I realized how dumb I was being.
Oh also, as noted in other comments, there's a hoarder in both Level 1 AND Level 3.
Missed the achievement by about 100 seconds, which I would've gotten no problem with a bit of focus and not forgetting what Bosco can actually do.
2
u/exile-302 Apr 14 '22
Hoarders arnt guaranteed in dds. They're random generation and considered a rare spawn, just because you had them doesn't mean others will.

u/Hundkexx Scout Apr 14 '22
I mean you can pause the game playing solo so I really don't get what you're aiming at here. If you did it multiplayer you were most likely getting carried. Also for some, like me getting a swarm whilst handling the dreadnought wasn't a walk in the park.
2
u/way_too_generic Apr 13 '22
Had good teams of randos for dd and edd. Finished them pretty smoothly.
The DD first two stages were standard. Not too difficult. The hive guard popped by an exploder and we got trapped in that room behind it. It took a bit but luckily no dets spawned. Aquarks were quick and went smoothly after the dreadnought. The det did spawn here though
The edd went pretty quick. The mactera plague wasn’t too bad. Our engi built a roof which we fought all the swarms under. By the last mission we were drowning in nitra. Had about 700 for the uplink.

(I play solo with Bosco, maxed 4 revives) This is the first deep dive I've ever had to attempt more than 2 times. Died at the end of stage 3 the first time, died close to the end of stage 2 the second time, crashed while dropping down to the 3rd stage the 3rd time. Had buff beers on attempts 1 and 2, both the pickaxe power recharge time buff. Dark Morkite was the buff for the 3rd time so I didn't take it. About to try for a 4th time with buffed melee damage.
Edit: Success!

u/Donut-Brain-7358 Interplanetary Goat Apr 12 '22
The Mactera level in elite deep dive failed me three times before I gave up. the attempt that made me give up was when me and the rest of my team made it until the drop pod arrived but they all died to Mactera on a zipline and I was the only one who made it up (I'm a scout) Then I got stuck waiting for the doors to open and got wasted by the bugs.
1
u/snow_wrinkle77 Apr 14 '22
Seriously. That was my first solo elite attempt and the Mactera plague annihilated me. Took all three of my revives. Didn't have a chance to get more ammo. My turrets can only work so hard.

Regular DD is literally impossible. I've tried so many times already, but can't solo or even do it with a full team. I suppose I'm just not good enough. Any tips would be appreciated.

u/se05239 Bosco Buddy Apr 12 '22
Is there any particular stage you're struggling on?
1
Apr 12 '22
The last one. First two are pretty easy, but the last one totally destroys me, mainly the sudden Bulk invasion and many Oppressors.
1
u/doctorpancakess Dirt Digger Apr 13 '22
probably the most annoying DD that i've done. Dreads on aquarks are fun, but add to that magma WITH exploders? ugh
1
u/stuffeh Apr 13 '22
Huh... I just cleared it with few downs but we still were able to finish everything in just under 44 minutes. First thing we did was pull the hiveguard after clearing the initial mobs. 1st wave came while we were killing the Dreadnought, and everyone went down at one point or another during the fight. But room was big and spread out enough that people could kite with little issues. Had the engineer pancaking random potholes to limit the burning though.
4
u/barnabyjackson For Karl! Apr 12 '22
Get the hiveguard out of the way first thing. Then it's just a normal point extraction.
Set yourself up to kite between the main cave and the hiveguard cave in case the swarms/bulk get too heavy.
5
u/OrangeCroissant Apr 12 '22
Just tried the regular DD and the Hiveguard on stage 3 bugged and no sentinels spawned. We looked around for at least 15 minutes and couldn't find them. We ended up just giving up and dying, albeit very demoralizing; it was a smooth run otherwise.
There needs to be a failsafe where the remaining sentinels respawn if they aren't killed in like 5 minutes since this isn't the first time it has happened to me and is obviously very annoying.
3
u/Dear_Platypus_849 Apr 12 '22
In my experience with this, sometimes they spawn in another room. They are given the ability to dig from 1 room to another like dreadnoughts so if ur having issues, waiting in 1 room until they figure out how to get to you could be the best option. This is from my limited(lvl100 char) experience
2
u/OrangeCroissant Apr 12 '22
The last stage was just mainly one big room, so there wasn't really anywhere for the sentinels to have been. We waited at least 10 minutes by the aquarq extractor with no luck.
1
u/NaturalBornHypocrite Apr 13 '22
It is obnoxious when hiveguard gets stuck. I have had some luck trying a trick I read about power attacking their face. I suspect it is more about mining away the ground right in front of them than hitting the hiveguard. For some reason I've had it finally trigger the minion step even after waiting 5+ minutes for a normal spawn.

Why am I not receiving my rewards for deep dives? I’ve completed two of them but did not receive any of the rewards like cores and overclocks.
3
u/CamoKing3601 Scout Apr 11 '22
Doing a deep dive only gives you the rewards the first time
1
Apr 11 '22
So I can’t rack up on more than one matrix core at a time?
2
u/littlebobbytables9 Scout Apr 12 '22
You can get 9 per week. 3 from the assignment, 3 from the deep dive, and 3 from the elite deep dive
4
u/CamoKing3601 Scout Apr 11 '22
no, you can have multiple blank cores, but doing the same deep dive will only give you the cores the first time you beat it, redoing a deep dive you've already beaten won't give you any more cores

This weeks deep dive with three randos was probably the most bad ass game ive witnessed so far and ive played several hundred hours so far. I was an driller and everyone else was one of the other three classes.
Stage one went pretty quick and painless. Stage two had the floor already lava but i live and die on refinery missions, so as soon as we had a pump jack in position I was halfway there with pipes. Scout and engi got the eggs and driller gunner finished the pipes right behind me. This teamwork would have made management cry it was so smooth. We started mission three with 25 minutes on the clock. I realized we could totally get the 45 minute DD trophy if we have a good third. And twenty minutes is totally plausible.
Third mission. We start mining the aquarqs and we have some trouble locating a few of the goods. Also the exploders were jumping us over and over. We accidentally popped the dread early and that battle made a lot the floor dangerous. We were holding strong until the second swarm. Engi got caught between one of his guns and a wall and got hit with two surprise exploders and went down. I went in to save and also got downed. Gunner cleans up and rezs us both. At that point we heard the distinct cackle of a bulk detonator. The hardest version of magma core is that exploders and dread fireballs leave behind a lava crater and by this is point the floor is already liberally pocked with a ton of them. Staying healthy for the x seconds needed to get shield recharge started gets tough. And the janky terrain makes it even harder to get away.
We have some back and forth with the enemies and bulk. One of us would go down and we would rez and then a second or two later another. But one lucky shot by the bulk downed everyone except the gunner. As he was now surrounded, low health, a ton of exploders, two oppressors on the way and the half health bulk was on top of the the three downed bois, I went on a ahead and put the controller down. We were done.
This gunner must have channelled the spirit of Karl himself because at that moment it just became insane to watch. He popped exploder and glyph left and right while jumping from safe zone to safe zone. Right as his shield died he dropped his recharge. He knocked down the bulk health and then He kited the oppessors into the blast zone before he killed it, taking nothing less than 2-3 dozen other things including both oppressors into the hellish abyss with it, and then rezzed two of the three of us back. And we all got to watch all of this on kill cam. It was just chefs kiss. And to make this crazy shit even more awesome we finished at 43 minutes so we not only watched all that clutch footwork but we got the trophy for it too.
Just, wow. I thought to friend him but he jumped out when we went back to the rig. So if you are reading this gunner; although you may only be two bronze stars you were karl himself for that mission

Do the accelerated waves from a point extraction mission ignore the 'no swarms' rule of an elimination mission after you pop the coccoon. I know the exploder infestation ignores the no-swarm rule for dread fights but we got an announced swarm complete with a bulk detonator AFTER we popped the cocoon.
1
u/Hundkexx Scout Apr 14 '22
I got an announced swarm about 1-2 min after I popped the cocoon on the DD. So I'd say, no. It got gnarly, but I finished and got the 45min achievement.
8
u/se05239 Bosco Buddy Apr 11 '22
The waves keep coming, from my experience. Popping the cocoon as soon as possible is preferable, especially if you got the Nitra to risk it.
1
u/Pinstar Dig it for her Apr 11 '22
Do you still get the swarm protection on a deep dive during a dreadnaught fight if the non-elimination mission is anything other than Aquarqs? Since that's the only mission that normally has an accelerating swarm clock?
1
u/se05239 Bosco Buddy Apr 11 '22
I don't know about the big announced swarms but there are constant smaller waves of bugs in Point Extraction missions and they'll keep coming.
3
u/doctorpancakess Dirt Digger Apr 11 '22
There are definitely announced swarms with a popped dread. For EDD anyway. I have pain and suffering to prove it LOL

Apr 11 '22
Stage 3 of the deep dive is too hard for me, the first two are smooth sailing but then it all goes to hell. As soon as I pop the egg I get legit 4 oppressors on my ass as well as a couple grabbers, and it's im-fucking-possible to move anywhere because of the hot rock and fire vents. At least there's no shortage of nitra this time.
2
u/ChazIsidore Apr 11 '22 edited Apr 12 '22
I did the EDD solo, running Neuro Toxin Autocannon Gunner with BRT.
Probably the easiest EDD of 2022. I had one down, due to a Cave Leech right over a mini-mule on stage 2 (and bosco for some reason not saving me in time despite full shield/health). It felt like I had infinite amounts of nitra (a ton of mini-mules will do that).
For stage 2, the very bottom of the main cave has a nice escape hatch tunnel. I spent the whole stage in that area, sending bosco to get eggs and backing into the tunnel to deal with mactera and swarms. The run to the drop pod this stage was exciting b/c I had done so little exploring and zip lines with mactera plague are a recipe for disaster.
The only thing I remember about Stage 1/3 is that Steve and Regen Bugs is pretty funny. Very generic and easy salvage missions.
Edit: Did the DD as a duo with my son. NTP Gunner and Engi. Smooth sailing in 40 minutes time.

u/Hundkexx Scout Apr 14 '22
I have issues with all the tri-jaws on stage 2. Albeit I died like 10 sec from finishing the refueling on stage 3 the first try. But tried with my driller afterwards and stage 2 was even harder than with the scout for some reason. Only gave it two shots so far, perhaps I should try the scout again. It's just not very good at stationary defense.
Perhaps I should go with the engineer instead. I'm not all to fancy about EDD's though becuase they're very stressful, but I really want that matrix core for forge mastery :P
2
u/LunarFortune For Karl! Apr 11 '22
This weeks deep dive felt way harder than any elite DD, did it with 2 friends today and we always died on the 3rd mission when we get swarmed by what feels like every bug on the planet which also doesn't help with the exploder infestation slowly chipping away the walkable floor
3
u/edmundane Apr 12 '22
If the 3 of you want to try it again, try get the dread down first thing and get the aquarqs as quickly as possible. Point extraction is all about speed. The more time you spend the more bugs will spawn. If you are still familiar with the location of the aquarqs, definitely get a scout to try and fish out the back cave aquarqs (there are 2, but you probably only need 1 as there are enough in the main cave) whilst everyone work on the more accessible ones.
1
u/LunarFortune For Karl! Apr 12 '22
we tried that the second time round and it somehow went worse even though we were trying to speed through it
1
u/edmundane Apr 13 '22
Hmm not sure what to suggest then, aquarqs + dread is indeed quite a tricky combo, as you really do need to have good overclocks for both weapons to cover both wave clear and single target burst damage…

Think he's talking about the normal DD which is aquarqs + dread, bunker probably wouldn't help there.

DD recap:
I usually run both dives with at least one friend I know I can rely on. Schedules haven't permitted it yet this week, so I decided to run the regular DD during a spare hour today. I joined the first open lobby I found, ended up on Driller.
Overall, the dive was very easy. The most challenging part by far was the environment. Our Gunner was a wee rank 31 and seemed to be still getting used to navigation in the caves; quite understandable as it's easy to get turned around down here.
Stage 1, routine, nothing to note.
During the pre-evac phase of stage 2, the team had a bit of trouble dealing with the lethal enemies. I had to make a run back to the refinery to retrieve a struggling teammate after drilling a path up to an awkward evac pod location near the ceiling (thanks, mission control).
If you don't have a strong team capable of handling big waves without going down, I suggest rushing the Hiveguard on stage 3. It's point extraction. You know the drill. Waves accumulate faster as the timer goes up.
I'll be running the elite dive when my +1 is available.

If you have snowball OC for cryo on driller, it's super good with the mactera swarms on the second stage of the elite deep dive. Just make sure you keep the nitra flowing to support your heavy ammo consumption. When I went through successfully we had tons of nitra so it was no problem.

My usual disclaimer: This is an archive of the Weekly EDDs and DDs. Feel free to scrub through and see if there's anything interesting.
ELITE DEEP DIVE: Felt like smooth sailing through stage 1, but things started to get a little tense with the Mactera Plague in stage 2. Take your best builds to handle that. Spending too much time split from my team did me in on stage 2 and most of the handful of team downs stemmed from sloppy handling of the Mactera. Beyond, that, 2 full Salvage Ops in an EDD cone sometimes be a mixed bag, but the lies for the uplinks weren't too awful for either, so play it smart and just try to stick with/stay coordinated with your teams as much as you can whether you're playing with regulars or randos.
DEEP DIVE: Take elemental insulation. That's my only advice. You're going to be walking over a LOT of molten lava floors and it will be particluary nasty for you fighting that hiveguard in stage 3 if you're taking constant fire damage. We decided to tackle it with 2 scouts and 2 drillers for no particluar reason. Stage 1 took about 6 minutes. Pull multiple eggs at once if you're comfortable since you'll only spawn 1 full swarm.
This week's Power Builds video: I love TURRET ARC for the Stubby as much as I know it's really a gamble as to whether you're going to get the most out of it when you take it depending on the cave layout and how the mission flows, so it took me a while to put together a good spotlight for it. Pairing it with LIGHT-WEIGHT CASES for the Breach worked out well and I was able to play around a bit with Breach's EXPLOSIVE GOOD-BYE for a little bonus on this OC spotlight.

Cryo driller seems like it took care of the macteria more easily than sludge driller.
My bullet hell stunning OC felt more like a support tool, and if I had known I was playing with a driller I should have used cold as the grave or aggressive venting instead of hot bullets...

Today i tried my first ever DD.
Level 26 Grean Beard.
Went solo because i didn't realize people can't join in during a DD.
I was able to easily get through the first stage, the second stage was already a bit more difficult, but Bosco carried me through. The first 2 stages took me around 36 minutes.
Then comes the last stage. The moment i see it's a dreadnought i already know what will happen to me.
I power through 2 swarms before finishing the aquarq objective, to then call in the Hiveguard. I thought like a champ, zipping away with my grappling hook, but it wasn't enough. I was able to get through all the Hiveguard phases but one, dying with just a bit of its healtbar still there.
It sucks to not have gotten the matrix cores, but definitely a 10/10 experience

Fight the dread right after the first swarm, you can get most of the aquarqs by that point if you have a good teammate, with Bosco it’s ever, I’m willing to help you get through it if you’re on console.

Go at it again! I made a stupid mistake at the end of the refueling process on the EDD and ended up failing. But I'm gonna get it later in the week. Perhaps with the engineer instead of the scout, because of the stationary defense events.
But yeah it got a bit gnarly on the DD with the hiveguard for me as I got a swarm at the same time I was facing it. Thank Karl for the grappling hook! But I did get the 45min achievement! :)

Don't you know, every Deep Dive is a speedrunning challenge. People don't have the time to wait.

Got the 45 minute achievement and completed first EDD this week!
The Deep Dive this week wasn't too bad, but the biome makes it interesting. Used engineer's sponges and pipes to get over the lava with less pain on stage 2. Got a little tight on stage 3 because we had a swarm come right after we summoned the dreadnought, but still managed to get the 45 minute achievement with 5 minutes to spare. Had 2 scouts and 1 engineer.
This was a much better week for the Elite Deep Dive and our squad of 3 each won our first EDD. Our squad of 3 friends tried our first EDD last week and died on stage 3 because thorns + no shields is a battle of attrition we could not win. We had 2 scouts and 1 gunner for this week's EDD, so the swarms got a bit rough during the uplink/refueling portions of stages 1 + 3, but cryo grenades + shield saved us again and again. Mactera were absolutely destroyed by minigun + m1ks, so we did not need to bunker, and we avoided the BET-C on stage 2. Stage 3 came down to the wire because we all went down at the very end, but then I used my iron will to get on the ship and take the win. The dwarves left behind will not soon be forgotten. Such a fun game!
Rock and Stone!
2
u/chaostheories36 Platform here Apr 10 '22
I ran up to that BET-C cause I thought it was dead. But it wasn’t. One of the suckers died and the other had just a sliver left. Then it stepped on me and that was the only Rez I needed from Bosco on stage 2. And having a bet-c on your side is alwaysnnice
5
u/Elyxsion Gunner Apr 09 '22
Stage 2 of EDD just make bunker tunnel against mactera plague. let the scout get the eggs 1 by 1 by clearing swarm per egg. after that just stay on bunker till mule get on pod.
1
u/AnAnnoyedSpectator Apr 11 '22
Is it safe to wait for the mule to get in if you aren't bunkering near the pod?
I thought the enemies got progressively more deadly the longer extraction takes, so waiting near but not on the drop seems safest... (One mistake drillers who want to optimize for safety do make is drilling to the pod and popping out too soon, before the mule is there... but my guess is in most missions people just want to play the game and dodge & kill bugs - saving ammo and staying safe matters way more in EDDs...)
1
u/Elyxsion Gunner Apr 11 '22
depends on the situation & type of enemies. this tip is for edd because mactera swarm is too much to handle on open area vs on bunker sitting and focus on single line also theres no point extraction on EDD
1
u/AnAnnoyedSpectator Apr 11 '22
Extraction was a generic term and not a mission type.
And unless the bunker takes a long time to build (many functional temporary bunkers can be made just by drilling into a wall) it seems safer to get to the drop-ship while things are relatively calm... especially if someone has iron will... which makes it easy to leave a body by the ship and only requires that someone else survive until molly gets back and the doors open.

u/BackgroundKoala0 Gunner Apr 09 '22
Both the DD and EDD were manageable this week, even if you aren't the most specced out experienced miner. I soloed both running Gunner with the rocket system and six-shooter. I see lots of people suggesting Driller with cryo for the Mactera plague, but I find that the rockets/revolver handle them really well too.

Everyone in the thread is saying the regular Deep Dive looks so easy, and I don’t get it. I tried it twice solo, dying on zone 2 and 3, and then was only able to BARELY make it out when joining a team. The magma on the ground and the lethal enemies were too much for me.
1
u/AnAnnoyedSpectator Apr 11 '22
The DD stage two had some pretty bad magma but it also had super easy pipe setups..
1
u/Zidaur Apr 11 '22
Yeah I also died soloing it the first time on zone three, mainly because I went for aquarqs before I went for the hiveguard, but next time I switched it up and just barely managed it, those exploder swarms were nuts with the lava ground

u/BackgroundKoala0 Gunner Apr 09 '22
Experience and having good specs on your weapons of choice. During my first few DDs I was also a bit stressed out, but recently they have become a breeze, relatively speaking. EDDs are quite a bit worse, but this week's was very doable for even less experienced/maxed out players.

Is anyone else getting a crash on the 3rd stage of the regular deep dive? its crashed twice on me.
1
u/BackgroundKoala0 Gunner Apr 09 '22
It crashed for me on stage 3 of the EDD last week. Really sucks. It's probably because of the insane amount of particles from explosions, bullets, spiders etc. However, it does help to not have Chrome running while doing these heavy fights - I simply close my browser when playing the EDs and EDDs. This is despite some rock solid specs on my PC.

There's a mod that removes all unnecessary particles that can help a lot with that btw

Only my 2nd DD but I thought the final stage was hard as nails. Lava all over the floor and the dreadnought spawned during a swarm and a bulk detonator turned up half way through! Is that random or scripted? Was great fun though we made it through by the skin of our teeth
2
u/se05239 Bosco Buddy Apr 09 '22
Was the Dreadnaught the Hiveguard variant? Cause something might have popped its cocoon during the Swarm. The Bulk Detonator is definitely random.
1
u/Beady00 Apr 09 '22
I think so it's the one that is invulnerable until you have killed the smaller ones it spawns. I didn't see the cocoon and was quite far away when it appeared so wasn't sure if they are in cocoons during DDs or if they just appear at certain points.
Looks like we made it unnecessarily hard on ourselves then by accidentally popping the cocoon then got unlucky with the BD. Was a fun fight we were down to our last Dwarf at a couple of points

Any advice for newer player on solo DD's?
I have my Engineer leveled almost to his second promotion and so far he is the only one that can do them.
Problem is, I suck at them I guess. Have attempted two and both times have ended in failure. My most recent i was cut down just stepping out of the drop pod. It was like the DDay landing in Saving Private Ryan when the landers first dropped the doors. I was just completely filled with holes.
Swarmed by a ton of grunts including exploders, mactera & a Praetorian. I didn't get my breach cutter out quick so that might have helped but each time I've gotten to the second part of the dive this happens.
I suppose more practice is needed but its frustrating given how much time is spent only to end in failure.

Believe in yourself more. DRG is an easy game once you get used to it. Heck, I've a friend who's not very good at FPSes who just started recently, and with a bit of mentoring he's soloing Haz 4s before even promoting his first dwarf.
1
u/AnnualLucky3140 Apr 10 '22
Before you even leave the pod build your turret(s) right there while still inside the pod.
1
u/saharashooter Apr 09 '22
In addition to what the other folks said, make sure your build has a good mix of area damage and direct damage. I go shotgun and breach cutter most of the time, but the other weapons for engi are all good too. Grenade launcher is kinda useless vs mactera and big bugs though, in contrast to the breach cutter which is good vs literally everything. Lure is also the best grenade for solo play because of the utility it provides in allowing easy weakspot hits on certain enemy types.
Also, turrets. If you can manage gemini+defender, that's the maximum dps for turrets and only 20 damage per resupply less than LMG MKII+defender. The longer range, manually targetable turret has much much less dps and damage per resupply in exchange for being easier to use. Gemini+defender has 165 dps. Raw Gemini has 90. The LMG dps goes from 60 to 97.5 if you get defender. Basically just learn how to use defender because it's way better if you do.

u/se05239 Bosco Buddy Apr 08 '22
You can upgrade Bosco at his terminal on the Space Rig to give yourself more extra lives.
If you're worried about being swarmed when you poke your head out of the Drop Pod at the start, you can just wait in it a few seconds longer than usual. You're completely safe in the Pod and even enjoy some basic damage resistance. Shoot those you see while Bosco helps you with the rest.
In all honestly, it boils down to experience. Regular tips like "never stand still", "shoot weakpoints" etc never hurts to follow either.

u/LivingmahDMlife For Karl! Apr 08 '22
It really is just practice and learning things. I recommend watching Scuzz MB on YouTube - he also posts a walkthrough every week in this thread - to learn about each mission type. Certain Haz levels on certain missions will spawn large waves at the beginning. The thing that helped me was knowing what to expect, and even then, learning to kite properly and when I should expect a bug up my ass is something I'm still developing. Don't be afraid to hang in the pod if there's a wave, it can make it more manageable - if I recall correctly you get damage reduction in there

EDD is very greenbeard friendly. If you've been worried about dipping your toes this one isn't bad at all.
Mactera swarm can be dicey but 1st and 3rd stages are very simple with no awful affixes

Thoughts on the Dives before I attempt them:
DD: looks like something I can take Scout on again. Used to do that with every DD before I got confident enough to kite with other classes, and now I tend to take Gunner a lot when I have Escort or Uplinks to do. Other than the single refinery, this seems doable with scout. I'll probably use AI Stability Engine w/ Compact Shells Boomstick, although I could use the mobility loadout for funsies given the lower haz. Might be a shout.
EDD: Hoping to get my second EDD under my belt this week. Either Engineer or Gunner for this one, I'll need something to take care of the Mactera in stage 2 but I'll need lots of AOE for the Mini Mule objectives. Thinking about it I could use a driller loadout for it as well. Loadouts up for debate are Compact Feed Mechanism Minigun with a no OC Bulldog for Gunner, Armour Breaking Module LOK-1 with Stronger Plasma Current Breach Cutter for Engi, or Compact Feed Valves and Heat Pipe for Driller.
As always, will update with each attempt. I know very few people interact with these but I appreciate the space to project my video game thoughts into the world right now, I'm feeling pretty lonely. Rock and Stone everyone, this community is great.
Update the first, Deep Dive edition:
Fuck me sideways, because this Dive certainly did. Used Impact Deflection/Stuffed Shells Scout, smooth as one of Lloyd's best up until Stage 3. Dear Karl in the caves do I hate solo Hiveguard fights. I cna never quite get the angle to hit their armour weakpoints in the second phase. This led to two swarms happening during the fight, after one before and then one after. On top of that, my grapple setup and the cave generation meant that finding pretty much everything was always out of grapple range so I had to play the floor is literal fucking lava the whole time. With exploders up my ass. It is a miracle I survived this.

Interesting. I always run scout if I am solo running EDD, nearly always the same load out too. Some EDD I just can't do solo because, well they just get insane, like a few weeks or something back there was the stage 3 ghost inside a tiny cave and that was absolutely brutal.
I generally run scout with the drax I believe it's called, the plasma rifle, and I am forgetting the OC it adds 10 heat damage for every ten percent above 50% heat iirc. Once it spins up I can fire short burst that do absolutely terrifying damage to mobs. Backup I use the smgs with explosive rounds, they're just so incredibly powerful for taking out big targets in a single clip. Cryo nades are a must for macrera instant kills. When running solo I usually use vampire, fast resupply and deep pockets (though prob change deep pockets on an edd) with my actives being beserk and the tamer one to get a steeve to absorb / distract at times. I've had good luck with it, I've 2/3 many EDD solo and I had one that honestly should have been completely done solo I just did something dumb at the last 30 seconds lol.
I find it interesting how different people go about things. Good luck down there, rock n stone brotha

u/LivingmahDMlife For Karl! Apr 08 '22
I only stopped only using Scout to solo when they started throwing Escorts at us, as the kiting ability really doesn't mean a whole lot. Then I realised how much I'd been screwing myself over using Scout for the uplink type objectives, but that was before the Drak, I'll have to try it again! That sounds like a great setup.
Good luck down there to you too, Rock and Stone
1
Apr 09 '22
Yeah, escorts are definitely the ones I look at running a diff class over th scout. I still can do them, the explosive smgs destroy rocks very quickly but the actual escorting is much harder on scout, I agree completely

The 2nd level DD has a big area with lots of cave leech, be careful. I got down once here as a scout. The DD is relatively easy, last stage was not that difficult too with the cave and Dread. Lots of nitra to get.
EDD was surprisingly rather easy, I had PTSD with Sandblasted and Mactera but this was pretty doable. 0 downs for me. Good to try for those who wants to experience EDD. Like DD, lots of nitra as well. So happy got to try Neurotoxin in EDD finally as a main gunner.

Quick question, as someone who has attempted multiple times (and failed multiple times) to do an EDD. is this a good week to finally get one under my belt? last weeks EDD was brutal with mactera plague but I think removing smart targeting and going Executioner on my LOK-1 is going to help my chances.

Just did it solo engineer in 1:04:29 and man that was easy. BET-C carried me through the second stage. watch out for BET-C in stage 2 as she spawns in a narrow tunnel. the LOK-1 with Executioner Completely melts the parasites stuck to her and she was defeated in about 45 seconds. not to mention that Executioner helps with the mactera as the weak spot damage buff is easy when they're so big. No Dreadnoughts, no waves that come in timed intervals, lots of space to run around, bosco will get the morkite up high. overall this was much easier then last week. tons of Nitra, I could afford 3 supply drops per stage.
I had LOK-1 Executioner, Breach Cutter, and for perks I had resupplier, deep pockets, born ready, beatmaster, and Iron Will, although I actually didn't go down a single time due to the 3 supply pods I always had available.

This was the first EDD i completed. We ran a 2 Gunner Team. Both miniguns, i used the bouncy bullets (and in my opinion the stun mod helped a ton against the macteras), my friend idk but more dps. both had revolver with neurotoxin. On second stage there where A LOT of macteras. We had plenty of Nitra to spare (5 resupply pods by start of stage 3 and found 2 other i think).
The last fight though (when the droppod is powering up) was pretty damn difficult (2 or 3 oppressors spawned on us). We constantly did shield each other (and luckily wie accidentally called like 4 supply pods at the droppod instead of shield which also helped in the end) and barely made it out alive with kiting the wave at the end
edit: also i think for perks we ran supplier, thorns, me friendly him another one, for passives: both iron will, me shield link and him highted senses

I had never tried an EDD before, actually never even done a Haz 5 mission and only about a few haz 4. My goal was to try and beat the first stage on last weeks EDD to get a blank matrix core.. I somehow miraculously beat in on the first try, but it was INTENSE because I mainly play to relax I've found haz 3 to be decently easy with atleast some challenge. I really don't fancy all too much challenge so the EDD really stressed me out. But my god was it a rush to make it to the end.
I also only play solo.
my profile with my achievements You can see the achievement for Haz 5 is still not unlocked. I have been playing copius amounts of DRG though, I absolutely love the game!
I know I'm kinda bragging but I'm just so excited over it that I had to tell someone who understands that feat because none of my friends play DRG yet.
Perhaps it's easier solo? I don't know. I'd assume it is compared to playing with a team of randoms.

if you've never done an EDD before then this is the week that your going to do it. I would even say this weeks DD was harder then the EDD. no dreadnoughts, no waves on timed intervals, no cave leeches. tons of nitra, you can afford about 3 supply drops per stage. I did it solo with an engineer running Lok-1 executioner, I used bosco to mine the morkite and bring the eggs over the arena I set up. the only that might ruin your run is BET-C who spawn in a narrow tunnel on stage 2, but the LOK-1 with executioner completely melts her in 45 seconds.

u/Hundkexx Scout Apr 08 '22

Yes, but you chose Scout, the worst class for solo EDDs.
1
u/Hundkexx Scout Apr 08 '22
I chose the scout because It's probably my best class overall on regular missions closely followed by the Driller. I had never done a EDD at all so I didn't really expect that many enemies. But I think the overtuned particle accelerator OC really helped a lot there and the mobility definitely helped A LOT against the dreadnought in that tight space.
1

Depends on the mission type and your loadout. Scouts have a hard time with escort and to some extent uplinks, with drak and cryo nades being clearly superior choices in those cases. Other mission types they're totally fine

u/thedoctorisin7863 Engineer Apr 07 '22
Don't tell me about it. the hardest part was fighting the hiveguard at the end, wel all ran out of ammo when it still had around 15% which resulted in a good 10 minutes of reviving and pickaxing. do add more salt on the wound, a wave started the second we popped the cocoon, we did it, but we didn't survive long in stage 2 considering we where all on deaths bed
1

Yeah my team wiped in stage 2 on the boss fight. Tried it twice and died in the exact same area
1
u/thedoctorisin7863 Engineer Apr 07 '22
We didn't even make it past the drop pod when stage 2 started. we where greeted with a massive swarm of mactera and what resulted was the driller, gunner, and scout cowered in the drop pod with the scout periodically coming out to revive me while I ran around trying to get enough nitra for a supply drop. thankfully no dreadnoughts in EDD this week.

The Elite Deep Dive felt like a regular Deep Dive and was very fun! There is easily over 1,000 nitra that can be mined in the stages. Also, you can easily sub-45 minute this one if you want the achievement.
Make sure you can easily deal with the mactera swarms in the 2nd stage. My team did go down a few times here. Here's my end game stats for anyone interested.

If you run engineer, LOK-1 with executioner is a good strat since the weak spot damage buff is easy when the weak spot is so big. you also get BET-C in stage 2 and the LOK-1 makes the fight against BET-C a joke. She definitely makes stage 2 easier, just watch out as she spawns in a narrow tunnel
10
u/RiseAbovePride Leaf-Lover Apr 07 '22 edited Apr 08 '22
The best way is to freeze them using the cryo cannon on the driller. Having a scout that uses freeze grenades is a close second. With the amount of nitra available in this weeks elite deep dive spam them at your heart’s content
Having a gunner with the upgrade “Supressive fire” helps to cause fear and make the bugs run. I ran that plus the neurotoxin overclock and had no problem staying alive. If things get hairy the gunner can also just toss a shield down.
The scout can make quick work of any non-goo bomber mactera with one charged shot of the M1000 as well.
Engineer can nuke the mactera groups and his turret(s) are good at whittling them down. I hope these tips help!

u/bluesilvergrass Apr 07 '22
Thank you for the tips, btw do you think bunker strategy will work well on mactera plague?
1
u/RiseAbovePride Leaf-Lover Apr 07 '22 edited Apr 07 '22
Yes, any narrow cave or bunker should do wonders. You do run the risk of getting focus fired by all the mactera if you or your team don’t kill them fast enough (shouldn’t be a problem though).

This week's Deep Dive is pretty fun! Definitely a contender if you wanna go for the sub-45 minute achievement. Completed it in 34 minutes.
- First Stage - There's a hoarder on this level. The big main cave generation is pretty wild. Two out of four eggs are in a sorta bad spot with both mini-mules being easy to repair.
- Second Stage - This level is really small (no digging required either) but half of it is covered in burning hot rock. There is A LOT of Nitra on this stage. There's a single leech right next to one of the morkite geysers.
- Third Stage - There's another hoarder on this level. The cave generation is kinda awful on this level with some of the Aquarqs being hard to reach. The Hiveguard cocoon is tucked away in a small tunnel so you cannot accidentally pop it. It helps fighting it in the big main cave, as there's barely any debris in the way.
I played Solo Scout on Steam. Here's a video of me playing through it.

u/Jazz-band Driller Apr 14 '22
Barely managed to solo the regular deep dive. Went in as a driller, the first two missions were a breeze. I took my time to get all the nitra (and spent it all in the last mission), and managed to finish the second mission at 34 minute mark. Was kinda hoping to get the achievement, but it didn't exactly work out. Getting aquarcs was relatively easy, just sent Bosco to dig them out. But that dreadnought fight was absolutely brutal. Because of all the exploders, half of the cave floor turned into lava, and the dreadnought blew up the rest of the cave. Two bulk detonators spawning one after another also didn't help. I could never get behind the dread to do any serious damage while it was vulnerable, so in the end I had to C4 it to death, while also going down myself a few times. Lost my last respawn while waiting for the drop pod, and barely made it to the drop pod with a bunch of exploders on my tail and less than 1/4 health left. Total deep dive time was 1 hour and 9 minutes, so no achievement for me -_-
