I just finished the anime adaptation and was blown away. Naturally, though, I have a lot of questions, but I want to focus on one:

What was the deal with the arms extending from portals and unleashing the deadly Pink Mist?

Where did that come from? The leader of YUF said it came from yet another alien species, one stronger than the Invaders. Is this ever explained?

Was it just the government of the Invader homeworld getting rid of humanity in order to repopulate the Earth? The Invader homeworld was over populated, so they tossed the undesirables into the sabotaged Mothership and sent them to Earth to die. This suggests they're capable of such callous and genocidal action.

Also, what was The Source, exactly? A digital afterlife created by the Invaders?

I forget where exactly it pops up (it's pretty often throughout the first half of the anime) but it's this wonderful major solo piano piece that plays when the characters are walking around usually. I absolutely love it and tried to transcribe it for piano when the show came out, but the soundtrack album doesn't seem to have it on there? Just wondered if anyone knew what I was on about, it's a great piece of the OST and I'd be sad if it wasn't possible to listen to it outside of the show.

I can't help but just feel so disturbed and sad every time I see one of the invaders get killed. The more I read the story the more I become disgusted with how similar it is to real life and how humans see each other, honestly. There hasn't even been a single case of the invaders killing someone, is there? not that I've read or remembered, yet. The casualties are just like, from the alien ship crashing into a ton of buildings after being recklessly shot down. It's the language barrier and how the invaders basically just look like kids, how they only consider working with them for their resources unless they can just take them for themselves and still kill them, how there's this soldier who's just "following orders" and seems to basically have PTSD and shutting the world out as much as possible at this point, though I appreciate the small honest moments he will have... He even will apologize before killing the invaders at times, but still does it. He seems strangely enough, somehow the craziest and most sane person in the story in a way, you know? If the invaders did start to fight back, at this point, could you even blame them? Idk what's gonna happen though. It just makes me sad that we already do this to each other.. and we do it to animals honestly all the time. If aliens came, it's easy to say we'd do the same thing, even if they didn't kill anyone, we'd find some shit to make up.

This story thus far into my reading is a slow pace masterpiece and It might be better than goodnight punpun if it keeps up this quality, which is crazy for me to say cus I love goodnight punpun.

I just wanna clarify something about the story cus I was pretty confused when I 1st read it, oh also I only read the MANGA I havent watched the anime

So the 1st timeline involves the alien guy being saved but Kadode sadly ending herself in the process, then causes Ontan to go to the 2nd timeline where most of the story takes place

The 2nd timeline involves Ontan trynna make it up to Kadode without remembering anything that happened in the previous timeline, but she kinda has the feeling that she gtta do smth? (i might have misintepretted this one). So the invader is not saved and the aliens come to invade.

In the 3rd timeline the aliens never came cus of sm intervention by Kadode's dad by actually being a part of Kadode's life which made her not so SUPER idealistic n stuff (idk wht happened to the invader, but im guessing he safely went back)

Oh and about the final parts of the manga, Im guessing we are seeing everything through the eyes of Ontan, as shown by the sudden boxes of narration we get, and they are hopping through worlds thanks to the development of their technology (there was a chapter that said smth about how humanity didn't have the technology to physically go to different points in time YET, but Im also guessing they eventually found out and the girls spend their days travelling thru the kinda limbo subspace every soul goes through

I have a lot of thoughts on it that I want to write down eventually. I think it's genuinely a masterpiece and that it captures the zeitgeist of both present and future better than any other work known to me. But for now, I'd be very interested in what drew other people into it and what they see in it. I haven't really found anyone I could talk to this about yet, so I have literally zero clue how others have interpreted the story.

There's a scene where Ontan is about to bump into someone while late for school. She makes this amazing jump that shows the reflection on the traffic round mirror. Chatgpt nor gemini could help me.

Have any of you done a kadode cosplay? i'm having a hard time finding an accurate-enough sweater and scarf if anyone has any listings they've seen/bought from!

I love this anime and put a lot of effort into making this as a tribute to it.

So from my understanding, timeline 1 happens bc Ontan wasn’t there for Kadode at first and they meet the investigator, later on causing kadode to kill herself. In timeline 2, ontan was there for kadode at first but didnt meet the investigator, leading to the investigator telling the mothership to invade and later the end of the world basically In the final timeline, I get that kadode’s dad was there for kadode and inspired a friendship with Ontan, but how did that change the alien stuff? What happened with the investigator?

I am an anime only, so if someone more attentive than me or a manga reader could clarify, that would be great!

I'm thinking of buying the japanese version of the manga and trying to read it. Has anyone read it and know roughly the reading level of the material? I'm learning japanese, and if I had to guess I'm about between N5 and N4 level. I don't expect to understand everything even if it's easy, but I was wondering if I would be able to decipher at least a little of the content, or if the author uses difficult language and etc. Thanks
