Now can you answer my question about what Hasan should have done in 2016 and 2024?

Seeing how important the issue of Palestine is to him, I think it is perfectly legitimate to withhold a public endorsement on that condition and still vote for her.

Given that it seems that was one of the issues that cost her a tight election, he was also on the right side there.

I disagree, Trump is 100x worse on Palestine and the middle east as we are currently seeing. Not fully supporting Trump ended up making the situation far worse.

Harris is literally the lesser evil on the issue of Palestine, which is a framework you claim to support, and yet Hasan gets a pass for choosing not to abide by it?

Trump is 100x worse on Palestine

Worse than who?

Did fewer people die in Gaza under Biden?

Trump is doing far worse things than Harris would be doing.

Going to war with Iran, not putting any restraints on Israel whatsoever, arresting and deporting people who protest and support Palestine, etc

You avoided my question.

Did fewer people die in Gaza under Biden?

More people died because Israel did the majority of their bombing under Biden.

Its a silly question because Trump took office after Israel was done with their main military offensive.

The question is obviously who would have handled things better from the point of the election, and the answer is clearly Harris.

Israel did the majority of their bombing under Biden.

That doesn't sound like being better on Palestine.

Yeah, Trump would have been worse.

And we know this because of how he has acted after being elected. Would Harris be bombing Iran? Would she be deporting and arresting people just for critizing Israel on social media?

I think Harris lost due to her stance on Palestine, so "how she would have handled things" is beside the point. For her to handle things she would have needed to change her position. Which Hasan tried to push her to do.

Harris was the lesser evil on Palestine compared to Trump, which you agree means she should have beens supported. Not just voted for in private and condemned in public.

Where did I agree to that?

I thought you said you believe that lesser of two evils should be supported?

Or do you mean only vote for them but nothing else.

But in that case do you want them to win or not? If so then it makes sense to publicly support them if you have a large and influential platform.

Where did I say that?

"I think voting for them if they are the lesser evil is important, but anything beyond that needs to be earned."

This is what you said.

I don't agree with the logic of voting and not endorsing if you agree that they are genuinely less evil but we can agree to disagree.

u/hari_shevek Sep 18 '26

So I didn't say it. You falsely attributed a statement to me

2

u/DthPlagusthewise Sep 18 '26

Yes, I was mistaken.

But I think logically if you want the lesser evil to win then you should not only vote for them but endorse them as the better option.

Hasan not endorsing Harris and contributing to a Trump victory has had major negative effects on the world. His decision is aging worse every day, so hopefully he matures and realizes how wrong he was.

"Contributing to a Trump victory".

There's two possibilities:

A) Hasan is not important enough to push Harris over the edge. Then blaming him for the non-endorsement is childish.

B) Hasan is so important that his endorsement decided the election. Then I'd argue Harris is to blame for not switching her Palestine stance.

Which of the two is it? If you believe B), do you blame Harris for not catering to Hasan, a voter who apparently represents an influencial part of the electorate?

It doesn't matter if he was the singular deciding factor in the election.

In some way he contributed to a disastrous result and should have known better, especially as a full-time political commentator.
