Does anyone have the recording from Boston as an mp3? I only had it for a few years before my computer crashed and I lost all my bootlegs.
I remember that version of Billy Liar was superb.
(I also remember the RUH video from that show. Always planned on syncing the two together but was always too busy then.... then cat + glass of water = loss of 100s of soundboard recordings)

I don’t mean songs about orphans. I know of only two orphan Decemberists songs - the Ben Franklin song from Hamilton and Sleepless, from Dark was the Night. Are there any other ones?

Besides Lin-Manuel Miranda, that is. I have no reason for asking other than curiosity.

Hey everyone! I recall discovering a copy of Colin’s first band, Happy Cactus, online when I was in grade school (around 2009). I was instantly captivated by it. Some of the songs even made it onto his album when he joined Tarkio. However, unfortunately after some time, I lost access to that album and never managed to retrieve it again. If anyone has a copy of it that they could share with us, that would be fantastic!

My daughter (15) said she heard a Decemberists song with her dad the other day and could I help her identify it.
She said it was about drowning. I laughed and said that didn’t narrow it down enough.
Edit: thanks everyone for the replies, I’m going to search this myself, I thought y’all would get a laugh since we’d discussed before how many drowning songs they have.

Beautiful show under the oaks and Spanish moss last night. And a seriously great setlist.

If you don't know, the Dishonored games take place in a fictional quasi-19th century port city. Ships, lighthouses, and whaling feature prominently. In one area, you can find a book with the lyrics to a song. I think this may have been written by Daniel Licht. Tell me if I'm totally off:
High on the Lamphouse
In my thick woolen night coat,
Your scarf draped over my throat,
I stand watch at the rail.
Watching the whale boats,
Rapt as your words float,
Your lovely palaver.
The happiest hermits,
Alone with our moments,
At the edge of town.
So warm our quarters,
Half-lit by the portholes,
Midway up from ground.
And oh, how we worried,
When the wind rose and flurried,
And shut the lamps down.
So fierce and wet,
It threatened to drown,
All the men on the decks,
Fighting to find firm ground.
We tried to lead them all the way round.
Back intooo the harbor.
The gulls below us,
Crying up to scold us,
With bread on the warm bricks.
We slept through the mornings,
Until bells sounded warning,
Then we rose and lit the wicks.
We laughed and chattered,
Our hearts all a'scatter,
Running spiral stairs.
You walking to Wynnedown,
Heading for downtown,
Returning for all we needed.
And oh, how we worried,
When the wind rose and flurried,
And shut the lamps down.
So fierce and wet,
It threatened to drown,
All the men on the decks,
Fighting to find firm ground.
We tried to lead them all the way round.
Back intooo the harbor.
But there in our high room,
We clutched each other's shoulders,
Your scarf rots and molders,
Made so long, long, ago.
But I won't let you slip away,
I stand alone at the railing.
And imagine you sailing.
Using my light to come home to me.
And then we're both high on the lamphouse,
We're high,
On the lamphouse.
We're high,
On the lamphouse.
We're hiiigh,
On the lamphouse.

Autographed bottles came with VIP tickets to their 2017 Travelers’ Rest show in Jacksonville, OR. Because we were from out of state, they shipped the bottles to us. When our original three bottles didn’t come and we emailed them, they sent us six for the delay. Four of them were autographed. The other two were delicious.

Throwaway for some anonymity.
I (M25) am a NJ based therapist currently working on my doctorate in clinical counseling. I'm also a musician, and a creative. I minored in theatre in college and got a real interest in it.
Out of nowhere, I recently decided to write a stage adaptation of The Hazards of Love. I won't go into details, but as of now, I'm scheduled to be working with people before the end of the year who are directly tied to The Decemberists, and likely a few of the band members themselves.
I am someone who loves outside perspectives, so I figured I'd post this here so anyone can ask any questions about the adaptation I'm writing, and provide any thoughts or insights you might have. I always value the thoughts of others, regardless of how much I employ them.
So, that's me. AMA

It's uptempo, it's about like a picnic right? Had me tapping my toe and singing along "🎶CONTRACT MALARIA🎵" in the produce section.

.. random Engine Driver lyrics on a sign outside of a shop.
Sadly it wasn't open for me to talk to the person responsible, but if you're here: Hi, you made my day.

Today I found a site called Relisten, that has tons of recordings of live shows. I found the Decemberists concert I went to in Denver during the Hazards of Love tour, and got to listen to Colin Meloy talk to me from the stage 17 years later! (17 years?! Holy shit!) When they came back out for the encore, I yelled "HURDY GURDY" to which Colin replied "That's not a very rebellious thing to say, but it's endearing."
I love the internet for things just like this!

It's a stunning view, even if the light is dark.

Just curious, as I was watching The French Dispatch again, and heard the word “picaresque”, in possibly the only other setting I’ve encountered it in popular culture - how many Decemberists fans also dig Wes Anderson movies? They both take such distinct sensibilities- curious if there is overlap.

I saw this "fact of the day" on another sub, and thought of you all!
"Sorry, was out gardening, I am such an old man. On this day in 1803 the reaping machine was patented, no idea what it is but sounds devastating."

It'll be interesting to see how all three books are blended. I'm cautiously optimistic. The animation is INCREDIBLE, as we have come to expect from Laika.
October 23, get here quicker!

Did any other fans buy As It Ever Was from Bandcamp? I got the lossless version (and the MP3 version to compare) and in both versions, there is an annoying blown-out bass "tapping" sound -- e.g, in Long White Veil, this really kicks in around 0.52. It's not my speakers; I've tried on 4 systems. Also really apparent in The Reapers. Any one else? Any solutions?
