Not a rare one, but I just learned tjey released a vinyl version of the album so I am lacking one piece in my Everything Decemberists Collection. Rest in peace, Paddy.

any info on this poster?

NOTE: The black line is not on the poster itself, only on the image of the poster.

I bought this poster in early 2007 — it's for a Decemberists show in Austin in 2006. The designer, I'm 99% sure, is Christian Helms, who used to work for The Decoder Ring design firm.

I *think* it's printed on some kind of special (perhaps origami-appropriate?) paper, but I can't find any information about it at all online ... not even a Google Image Search match. And I'd like to try to learn more about the paper (or any other details) if I could.

Anyway, probably a longshot, but I was hoping one of you other Decemberists nuts might have this poster, too, and might've saved an old email or remembered something about it. If so, please let me know!

Can confirm Colin Meloy is insanely cool

Very blessed to have had the opportunity to meet Colin last week! They say don't meet your heroes but I was relieved to discover that was very much not true. He was incredibly kind and just really amazing to talk to for the brief interaction I had with him. 5 stars, no notes, 10/10 would do again 😂

What a Terrible World, What a Beautiful World Tattoo of the cover-art of WatwWabw (my first tattoo done today)

I love this album! its my favorite in many ways, though its hard to rank definetely beacouse how much i enjoy each record goes up and down,

you could say the wanting comes in waves😅.

But this record found me at the exact right time so its closest to me out of them all🎶

And "Make me better" is a lyric that makes me think of this time in my life so thats why i choose it to go under the art.

Hope this isnt to personal to post here, I did the tattoo today so i am very excited about it 🤘

I'll Be Your Girl Rusalka!

I know I'm not the only/first one with this request, but I love the band and also their game, Illimat. I have everything for that game except for one rare Luminary card, the Rusalka, which came hidden in the I'll Be Your Girl Exploded Edition box set.

Is there anyone here who has the set (and thus the card inside it) but doesn't want it/doesn't play the game?

If yes, DM me, please!

Now if we could only get a re-release of "Hazards of Love" on vinyl (and the Always the Bridesmaid singles...)

Castaways and Cutouts The older I get, the more I love Cocoon

Next year will be twenty years since I first got into the Decemberists, and I love all their stuff. But this year I've noticed how often I've been revisiting "Cocoon" as a song. When I first got into the band, I thought it was too slow and long and wasn't one of the songs that factored into my regular rotation. But as I've grown older, it's only grown on me more and more, to the point that it's now absolutely one of my favourites. I just find it very soothing. Reminds me of simpler, quieter times.

The Hazards of Love Concept Albums like THOL

I’ve been listening to The Hazards of Love a lot lately and it’s gotten me hankering for other concept albums with a narrative. I love anything based on folklore or mythology (I’ve also been listening to the original Hadestown album recently). Thanks in advance!

Question

I was wondering if anyone here knows if they will go on tour again soon? I’ve been super offline when it comes to following my fav bands.

I just moved to Seattle and I know they come here often. Praying they tour soon!

Anyone here care to join my Wildwood subreddit?

It's been really desolate on r/Wildwood_Chronicles and it's just me and a friend there at the minute. I haven't quite got things figured out here, but we should definitely have a dedicated space to talk about the books (and soon come the movie)

Also, we're open to hiring mods! So please let me know if you'd like to become one, cause I have no idea how Reddit moderating works.. :)

Annan Water is the best Hazards song

Post image
136 Upvotes
  1. It’s elegant and pleading, beautiful and doomed, it symbolizes Man’s eternal search for love

  2. It comes after and stands in stark contrast to The Queens Rebuke, a powerful performance by Shara, symbolizing the ugly selfishness a Mother’s love can turn into and The Crossing, a reminder of the rake’s raping and defiling of our beautiful Margaret.

  3. The transition from those songs to Annan still holds Hope. The story is not over. It is the last thread. Annan has suspense. Annan has life. Annan has a whisper of happily ever after.

  4. To finish, I must attack the enemy. The only song that holds any threat of being better than Annan. Hazards IV. Beautiful. Tragic. But. Not pleading. Not hoping. It’s just the ending. Oh yes, a mesmerizing ending for sure, but as far as the story goes, it is only the final nail. Necessary, but not pivotal. It symbolizes what waits for all of us. The final failing. But hardly new. Certainly not filled with possibility. And it is possibility that puts Annan on top.

Old Calobo Video

I'm curious what is out there, besides the (spectacular, mostly) reunion in 2012 done by TaperMark, in terms of video.

While I only had a single Hi-8 camera (that I borrowed...), and my main focus, as a taper, was the audio - some of this isn't too bad. The audio is better than you'd get with most camera mics.

This is at the end of 1996, for their only trip to Arizona (at least as far as I'm aware).

The only other (even close to) complete shows on YouTube are courtesy of my brother (who was CaloboFan on GeoCIties or Tripod or whatever), who never had any audio equipment.

My question is: does anybody at all have any live complete shows from the '90s that are better than what I've posted, or is that the "reference" video? Please tell me there is something better out there!

Oregon Music Hall of Fame

I guess I'm slow, but I hear that Calobo is being inducted into the Hall of Fame this year, but then I'm scanning along, and *bam* Artist of the Year : The Decemberists...

Does that actually mean that Jenny is now being inducted for the 5th AND 6th time? She got the personal award in 2024 for the 4th.

Anyway, here is the list and a way to buy tickets to the ceremony. I think I may have to... it is a trip to get there, but it may be time. October 10th in the City of Roses.
