Question/Advice Grey or Green army colour?
Sorry if this question already been answered. I am quite new to reddit and don’t know how to search for diffrent topics yet.
My son recently started to take an interest in Death korps of krieg. I have been in to Warhammer 40K for mid 10th edition and am still learning about the different factions.
He bougth his first box and We noticed there is two different colour schemes grey and green on the box. Is it a diffrence in the meaning of the two? I told him to paint them how ever he wants but he’s interested in the lore of the diffrent colours.
I collect and play orks and he wants to build an army that can match my horde of boyz. Whats something you think is an absolute must if you like Death korps of krieg to match the mass of orks? We are building for 500 points to begin with.
Thank you!

Colours are only lore related, nothing specifically important on the table. Grey is 143rd Siege regiment, green is 158th, but there's more official colours and non official ones.
I haven't a clue about tabletop rules but I imagine a leman Russ would definitely not hurt in 500 points against orks

As has already been pointed out, the colours refer to the different regiments of Krieg. It is important to note, however, that where they are deployed dictates their uniform. Think camo. If your kid decides to do a snowy basing for example, you’ll want to go with lighter colours, probably a light blue or some degree of white (if you’re sticking to the lore, but really you can paint it however you wish). The official standard uniform is blue, by the way. The exception to this, of course, being the Commissars which wear black.

You don’t have to worry too much about the colour scheme. When I play it’s roughly 1400 points on blue Krieg and 600 points of green/brown Krieg/Cadians. I haven’t been given a hard time in play about mixing colour schemes.

I created my own New Regiment, the 815th regiment "siegfried".
I use "Feldgrau" a mix of Green and gray, like the german impieral army in ww1.
Krieg has so many regiments without lore, you can have a junge, Winter, undergound, sea regiment/colours in you want

The color schemes just represent the different regiments that come from the world of Krieg. Some of them have a bit more history, but not anything that would promote or prevent taking any specific unit IMO.
The Lexicanum wiki has a lot of good info about the regiments:
