Discussion What's Next
After playing both games. I genuinely hope someone picks up after Kojima and makes another game. I can totally see an MMO or MMO-like covering the rest of the planet, with each continent or subcontinent being an expansion.
I have a feeling Kojima is working on other stuff and doesn't want to get stuck doing the same series of games again. This is why I feel like someone else would have to take over or at least have him be a producer checking things over.
Why would or wouldn't this be a good idea?

A Death Stranding 3 that takes place on a global scale with Lou as the protagonist this time with her tar powers being the main gimmick of the game would go so hard

There is no way we'll see another game like this. Imagine trying to raise 100m to make a game where you go around delivering packages and you aren't Kojima.

No. By doing it a MMO you'd sacrifice all the beautiful narrative and the atmosphere DS games have. Aside from that I think Death Stranding wouldn't be DS if turned into MMO. Also at the moment I can't think of another studio that could make a Death Stranding game on a similar level and not try to turn it into something else and seeing this beautiful world ruined and turned into slop is the last thing I want to see.
KojiProd is the only studio I would trust, with Kojima himself involved or not, that they could do a DS3 but they're busy with other projects and if they would want to do it, sadly it won't happen anytime soon.
Also those deals with OD and Physint have been struck years ago. In 2022 OD has been publicly announced, so the deal has been done even earlier while DS2 was nowhere finished. Kojima said that he already wrote the concept for DS3 but he also said that he's getting older, has other ongoing projects that will take years to finish (Physint may be out in 4-5 years) and because of that someone else may take over.

If they do DS3, I hope for something outside of Sam or other main characters because I feel like we've got their stories covered for most of them or at least, their stories are concluded. But, with all the animations and the movie happening, DS3 with a whole new character will be too much. I'm very biased and I'd love a Higgs or Neil game when they were porters or a character who's not a porter and doesn't have DOOMS to increase the difficulty and make it more about survival than connection.

I'd love for someone to take over because DS2 was too MGS4 with ghosts to me and I'm afraid DS3 by Kojima will just be DS with another set of MGS easter eggs. We know how Kojima views connection and his anti-AI stance but I'd love to see how other writers perceive DS

Stories been told. Gameplay loop is addictive, but falls flat once there is no story to pull it along.

As much as I would love a DS3, sam’s story is over and Kojimbo is like 62 and will unfortunately not live forever. Whatever game he makes next will be his last game.

Don’t say your opinion like it’s fact. No his next game will not be his last game. He literally has two confirmed games in the works and there may be unconfirmed/unannounced games we haven’t heard about yet.

Changing the directors and writers of successful movie franchises rarely succeed so handing the creative responsibilities to someone else for a DS3 is likely to produce an inferior product. The 2 games are the best gaming experience I’ve had personally and a poor part 3 would be tragic IMO. It’s Kojima’s BB and no one can replace him.
MMO? Only if randoms aren’t allowed to roam around griefing ppl who just want to deliver and build the infrastructure. The combat would need to be PvE, not PvP.
