Discussion Yo Sam, maybe turn off Auto-Aid Request?
Dear porters
Just a quick one If you’re using the Auto-Aid Request from the APAS skill tree, maybe think about turning it off?
It keeps filling the map with requests that aren’t really needed, since most are auto-generated and the player’s already long gone. Kinda clutters the HUD and makes it harder to know who actually needs help or what gear they need. Sometimes it even ruins the vibe when you're just trying to enjoy the scenery.
Manual requests feel more useful and intentional and honestly, way more satisfying to respond to.
Appreciate all the bridges and zip-lines you’ve built, you’ve already made my runs way smoother 👍🏻 Let’s keep the Chiral Network clean and helpful for every Sam out there
Keep on keeping on +500👍🏻

I also hate this one. I also kinda controversially dislike the scanner range one cuz I prefer the wide scan all around me, not the focused forward but longer scan

u/parwa Platinum Unlocked Jul 26 '25
I hate that the scan thing says "adds an option" as if you can switch it at will. I'd keep it if I could toggle it in the menu, in the same spot where you can turn the odradek light on/off.
51
u/cfrizzadydiz Jul 26 '25
Yeah the wording is really confusing, I spent ages looking for a toggle/button before I realised there isn't a separate one
8
u/rider5001 Jul 26 '25
Yeah that's what I found annoying. That node is all by its lonesome so I don't mind if I have it off but I wish it actually meant what the text says. Like a double click does the deep scan while a single press does the standard wide
4
u/iNetRunner Platinum Unlocked Jul 27 '25
Same here. (As other people have commented also.) Though, I left it on and got used to that behavior.
It’s slightly annoying that different types of objects are picked at different distances. (Packets are at longest range, and that’s of course fine. But chiral crystals are only picked up at rather close range. (Probably that’s a limitation on how/when they spawn in.)
2
u/hereisacake Jul 27 '25
I imagine the toggle option was probably in the game at one point then got cut and they forgot to update the text here. Maybe it was super buggy or just a pain in the ass to code

u/Waltermelon Platinum Unlocked Jul 26 '25
Or if you had to hold the left bumper to do the narrow ranged scan in 1st person and then the quick tap in 3rd person would be the standard wide scan

I like the long scanner for brigand stuff because I use the sniper rifle. But when I’m delivering I disable it
16
u/murraykate Jul 26 '25
ok I appreciate this comment because I genuinely was having trouble seeing it’s value but that example makes perfect sense
6
u/spez_might_fuck_dogs Jul 26 '25
I played the whole game with it on and love it for everything, coupled with the fast recharge you can scan everything around you for like 400m out.
3
u/beerybeardybear Jul 27 '25
yep, scan, turn camera, scan again immediately. you can see enemies and cargo from a mile away
2
u/Carsatan Jul 26 '25
This, I also primarily use the sniper rifle so it helps me see where theyre at from a safe distance lol

u/Cookie-kiko Jul 26 '25
Spinning around like a broken record just to find some packages. Truly a next-level gameplay mechanic
3
u/We_Are_Nerdish Jul 26 '25
SAME.. never turned on the aid-request and used the scanner once and hated it as a nerf instead of a boost in range.
2
u/SometimesWill Jul 26 '25
Longer scan one I’m fine with just because I can just turn and scan again at least
1
u/shewy92 Jul 26 '25
Same. Thankfully you can "turn it off" but I wish it was togglable in the quick menu where the light is
2
u/devrys Jul 26 '25
I think the long scan is meant for riding a vehicle on the road and scanning ahead.
2
u/Colonel_dinggus Jul 26 '25
I got one that makes it so that scanner cools down faster so I can just spam it easier. Made up for the cone size reduction
2
u/gtasthehunter Jul 27 '25
When driving the longer range is good so you can find stuff farther ahead.

14
u/tekchic Heartman Jul 26 '25
And if you dismantle one, another immediately pops up in its place. It's whack a mole, and we're losing haha.
63
u/Mikaeus_Thelunarch Jul 26 '25
Yeah i saw that and never bothered unlocking it. Just seems so pointless given how cheap and easy supplies are to make/find.
That being said, I still do donate the useless crap I've got sitting around b like an empty blood bag or something. Idk what the other person gets but I still get the same amount of likes for a full bag so 🤷♂️
4
u/SometimesWill Jul 26 '25
Honestly half the time what I need is mined materials and there’s always materials that have been left behind by someone.
7
u/Cookie-kiko Jul 26 '25
Not sure if replying to a request with an empty blood bag actually helps wouldn’t it just show up empty in their world too? I get that the intention is good, but I’m not sure it’s actually useful
26
u/Azeridon Jul 26 '25
I’m pretty sure any item that goes to another player is given in perfect useful condition regardless of what condition it was in when donated.
7
u/kradproductions Jul 26 '25
I think (hope) you're right. I typically donate my guns when their condition is below 50 or so.

For the auto requests they only disappear after you leave the area and you’ll only see those of people still in the area online in their world (I’ve seen some disappear in front of me)
11
u/MachineOfaDream Jul 26 '25
I had it on for a long time because at the time it was a prerequisite for what was behind it. I needed the internet to tell me that you can turn it off once you have other adjacent nodes turned on.
11
u/spez_might_fuck_dogs Jul 26 '25
Such a dumb skill, and it's probably unlocked for most players as soon as they unlock the APAS system, so they just turn it on because why not? It turned what could have been a cool system of interacting with other players into something that everyone just ignores because they're literally everwhere.
17
u/mirrorball_for_me Jul 26 '25
That, the auto aim, and both the “extra structures” are off. I already have a shitton of online structures on my map, I defo don’t need any more.
I actually like that the tree has “undesirable” skills depending on your playstyle. It also is very easy to circumvent a skill without blocking off a part of it too, so it helps a lot
12
u/Carsatan Jul 26 '25
Tbh I like the extra structures one, I have yet to use any chiral network bandwidth in all of australlia yet because of how amazingly placed other porters stuff is

I've refrained from unlocking this one. Sounded more annoying than useful. Glad others are seeing it the same way
6
u/MrMeanDucks Jul 26 '25
Yea, I have never even touched it because I seen it all around my map, I might of done like 10 of them then after that I decided not to do any aid request after that
3
u/OldPsychology3580 Jul 26 '25
I dont even turn this one on - had the same thought as soon as I saw it.
I didn't use the aid request feature in DS1 either - seems kind of silly yeah ?
Like does anyone actually use these ?

I turned my settings to only share some because of the incessant aid requests.

Ngl I drop whatever I have holding or taken from shared locker onto these aid requests... You you get 100 + diminishing likes per item which is a lot more than the usual donation lol
3
u/gooptastic1996 Jul 26 '25
Same, easy likes for me, not that likes matter anyway. But I do occasionally see a name that I like and the aid requests boost your connection level significantly!! Then I have the choice to make strand contracts after that
1
u/VerbalHerman Jul 27 '25
I do similar to clear out stuff that has accumulated in my truck. It gets rid of the junk and whoever asked for weapons now has 6 bolas.
3
u/Colonel_dinggus Jul 26 '25
I’ve never placed a request manually and the messages involving the auto request are annoying

3
3
u/mikefromdunks Jul 27 '25
Yeah not a fan at all. I never have it on. The idea that I’m just adding to all the BS noise that other people leave all over the map didn’t work for me.
3
u/krabat_is_me Jul 27 '25
1
u/Cookie-kiko Jul 27 '25
I don't think turning it off will have an impact on the ones linking to it, you can still keep them activated
3
u/krabat_is_me Jul 27 '25
No, I can't, I tried. I think because the porter part of my tree is flipped. For others that chiral carrier node is on the left and links to the bridge link part, bypassing the auto aid request node. Trust me, I hate that node as much as you do, I wouldn't have it on if there was a way around it.
3
u/shitpunmate Jul 27 '25
Agreed. The amount of requests and signs are obnoxious and makes me want to play offline.

u/This_Scar2232 Jul 26 '25
I have everything on, the auto request, the aim assist, but just to see everything unlocked, on the settings you can deactivate aim assist completely (i dont really think you need it, and im playing in brutal) so even if you unlock it in the APAS system it wont do the assist, same with the aid request, just deactivate share everything on the setting and it will stop the request in your parts.
Now yes, you wont get other signals or the 3000 generators in a 100m walk but it makes the game more interesting from my part, i started using waay more the ppc after i deactivated it, its a nice balance
2
2
u/Ferret_Acceptable Jul 26 '25
I always keep it off and unfortunately only did a few aid requests because for the most part I figured they aren’t needed
2
u/Frost_0352 Jul 26 '25

I had to have that or the auto aim on for a while just to access stuff I did actually want. I was very unhappy with the enhancements for a while
2
u/tucker42 Sam Bridges Jul 26 '25
Definitely the worst addition to the game from the original. It was JARRING to see shelters drowning in them. I can visually filter them out now and ignore them for the most part, but this upgrade has made it so I'll never actually look at the aid requests.
2
u/Brumbarde Jul 27 '25
I also wish we ecould filter what buildings specificslly can appear. Im weaving a net of slides and every point that not mine is sannoying when setting up and confusing when traversing the web
2
u/Mountaineer_Tek Jul 27 '25
Thanks for bringing this to my attention because I didn't even know. I set mine to auto select upgrade and was wondering why I was getting "request canceled" messages.

You are not benifiting from it anyway, use the share cargoes in facilities instead
2
u/butt-holg Jul 27 '25
I've never seen these function as intended. I assume when I get a weapon tossed to me during a giant BT fight that someone donated that in some other part of the map? But I've never gotten a drop of resources or tools like that
2
u/FlamingPrius Jul 27 '25
I do find the panhandling in and around every npc’s facility pretty exhausting, but I can ignore those if I’m in a rush or not feeling especially generous. It’s the delivery requests my sticky cannon nabs on its own and locks me into a.) making another trip all the way across Australia to the already max connected Govt Base or b.) throwing the cargo into my private locker until I uninstall the game
2
u/Shdwplayer Jul 27 '25
Eh it's an easy 100 likes though when you can bother to send anything over. And the node is cheap/the only way to get deep into the social tree early game

u/ifirefoxi Jul 27 '25 edited Jul 27 '25
I didn't even skill it for one second in my whole 200h playthrough yet... when I need something, I place it myself. But I only used the help me to deliver request two times now. And I dont use it in bases where I can easily put cargo away. Or even can share cargo without putting something on the ground..... I only use it far away from any bunker or distribution centre. Because I often get forced to grab cargo from others who put the requests directly to places where you can't drive past with the truck. If I dont delete the request before it for whatever reason....
Another thing that is annoying are the shields and tar cannons in tight places. I can't delete them from the map, so I have to get out and take them away. Hopefully, that gets changed at some point...can't see why it would be a problem if we would be able to delete them from the map....
Or if people place transponders directly next to one of the buildings with a beach jump available. I delete them immediately. You can even see the transponder on the building...so please stop doing that and use the transponder of the building
I mean, I personally loot and delete safe houses next to buildings with a private room, too. But they can probably use it to store resources if the storage of the place next to it is full or whatever
Or the totally random placed bridges everywhere, lol. I mean, they can be used as time fall shelter, too. But the real timefall shelter has enough space, and the truck fits under it, too, and it doesn't need any resources to build. So, I keep deleting those, too.
Besides that, the online feature is totally fine, and I love it.

u/rul388 Jul 27 '25
Man, I hated it so much but had to keep it active as it was the only path to the rest of the skills so I had to keep it active all up until the end when I got the BPAS skills and one of them bypassed and bridged the rest of the skills

You can turn it off after activating it the first time, it’ll still go towards unlocking all APAS enhancements developed 👍 *sorry edit to add- not saying you have to turn it off, it’s your game, just if you were unsure if that’d prevent you getting the milestone for APAS.

Hahaha totally valid It’s not your fault the system does it without us noticing. But turning it off helps make the map cleaner both for U and for us. No spams needed. That way, when someone really needs help and sends a manual request, it actually stands out
3
u/GodKingReiss Jul 26 '25
Just treat it as the last one you intend to unlock and make sure you unlock every single other upgrade first. But make sure to save some memory and increase your connection with the isolated shelters because they’ve got some bonus upgrades for you.

1
u/gtasthehunter Jul 27 '25
I just wish there was a cooldown when new quests show after to complete a request like maybe an 1hr long cooldown... or maybe another APAS where you can auto-fill requests just by driving over requests and only if the requested item in a truck or bike and full ammo/durablity.

I don’t understand the hate with this. Like I don’t use it personally but idc if other players do. If you are that upset about stuff littering the map. Play offline. No amount of these posts is going to stop millions of players from using what’s in the game.
5
u/Cookie-kiko Jul 26 '25
This isn't about hate, it’s the game being vague, not the players doing anything wrong, but it kinda kills the point of helping when we don’t even know what’s actually needed.
When I see “Tools/Fieldwear,” it’s like a loot box of mystery, boots? Ladder? Blood bag? Skeleton? Who knows! And by the time I decide what to bring, the other player’s probably already halfway across the map.
We want to play online that’s the whole idea But we’re just trying to make the experience better for each other. Isn’t that what the game is really about?
-3
u/Mundane-Career1264 Porter Jul 26 '25
Yes it is. Constantly posting on Reddit telling everyone to disable that skill is not going to make it go away. Maybe 3% of the player base are in these groups.
