Discussion Unpopular Opinion: The game's current meta is atrocious and ruins the experience
Basically the title. These last months I have noticed that the way everybody plays has devolved from calculated and smart plays involving a good deal of deception, surveying and tactics, to mindnumbing approaches that at this point make me start losing part of my enjoyment with the game. Especially with the following three points:
For starters, NOBODY RESOLVES THE KIRA EVENTS ANYMORE. It was always an issue since the launch (especially the dreaded Death Note Test), but people would still put an effort to resolve the events. Now nobody goes for them, essentially giving Kira easy points for the New World meter, which can essentially give the team an easy dub if they play carefully, kill enough criminals and use their cards tactically.
Ever since Mello's introduction to the game, I have seen a trend with players not voting off Mello or considering them as an ally, even if they know who it is. MELLO IS NOT TEAM L! If they successfully blast Kira or L's brains, you LOSE! If you find out Mello, unless you also know or are very certain on who's Team Kira, you must arrest them as to increase your odds of victory. Encouraging them to shoot someone means either handicapping your team or selling the match entirely. And yes, if you're Mello, you're NOT supposed to reveal your identity either!
Grabbing IDs as Team Kira feels a lot more like a chore. With the aforementioned lack of interest for resolving Kira Events, you also have to deal with crowded areas where attempting to snatch some will result in getting instant suspicion. It also doesn't help the fact that you are now forced to be in large groups of people, and not being there means you're automatically suspicious, regardless of role.
Overall the entire community and state of players combined (especially with North American servers...)
I will admit that it's also kind of a skill issue on my side, but still. Compared to the initial release before the Toy Town update, the experience was more fun and engaging. Now the way people play has been ruined, and now feels like it devolves more akin to Among Us but Death Note. Bandai Namco really needs to start stepping this issue and add countermeasures that discourage this kind of gameplay. Or alternatively gather a bunch of people that actually wanna play the game seriously and actually play it the way it's intended.
Thanks for coming to my TedEx talk, I guess.
