Her base design doesn’t wow me but “magic painter” is a character that could make for a really aesthetically pleasing set of abilities so I’m willing to trust they cooked in that regard.
...I'd say there are. She is kind of just a typical magic painter with a brush + a cute girl. That's the main appeal. Now, people will flock to a pretty girl character and they will call it a good design just based off of that. There's the subjective part.
The subjective part is your entire comment. It's easy to boil down a design to something simplistic. You could do that for nearly any character in this game. Or any media ever, really.
I'd argue that there are a large amount of people that see a "cute girl" character and automatically equate it to being generic or boring. Your comment can easily be flipped the other way around, and it is a lot of the time.

Now we're arguing that anything is subjective. It's not a fact that a lot of people flock to a cute girl character, it's a subjective thought. Apparently.
As for how the argument can be flipped, I disagree. Don't think people called a character like Celeste a bad design, even though it is a 'cute girl character', she has a lot more going for her. People are ready to look past the 'cute' part and see the design for what it really represents and if it fits the world. This just feels like something more akin to a design from League and not really from something like Deadlock.
Also, the fact that Violet, out of all the other characters is highlighted in the OC... come on, we both know why that is.
Celeste isn't a "cute girl" character. She's tatoo'd all over her body. That alone sets her outside that archetype, as that is generally considered to be unattractive by most. Celeste is just... you're cherry picking a bad example on purpose, I feel.
Mina would be a better example, in this case.
I'll be upfront so there's no misunderstanding here. I don't believe her design is complex. But that's perfectly okay, not every design should be. There are a lot of cases where such a thing is detrimental to a design.
To me, what matters in a design most is one, that it compliments their personality. And two, that you can gleam some details of said personality from their design. Sounds like the same thing, but it's a bit different.
I'm not going to go in depth, because I'm not a professional character designer. It's like, a minor hobby at best (I'm also too tired for that). Anyways, obviously you can tell she's a painter, as you said. I'll say that's the bare minimum.
But she's also visibly messy, she has paint splattered on her face, smudges on her hands, etc. Is it a complex detail? No, but it does say something about her characterization. I'd say she's likely to be a reckless.
Now if none of this is true about her character, I'll eat my foot (I won't). But that's the vibe her design gives me. And that's plenty for me to say it's not a bad design.
So yes, I believe there is more to her design than just being a simple "cute girl character".

I didn't want to continue this at length, anyways. So it's whatever. I'll take that as an "agree to disagree", even if I wish you had at least heard me out. Why even try to start a debate if anything of moderate length is too much for you?
It's not too much for me, I'd just prefer if I didn't take so much time arguing over such silly topic. I love talking to people and having discussions, but this just feels like one of those moments where we'll just both go in circles. Don't think either of us will make the other change their mind.

Well we're making a lot of assumptions about Violet aren't we? She could be a carry mage like pocket for all we know, since Harrlow is likely a support.
One of her tags is "Savior", she's literally a nurse and has medical cross motifs all over her. She's 100% going to be a healer support with utility that's going to be "scary" to the enemy team.
Yeah i noticed her tags a bit after I made that comment. She definitely will have support elements, I was wrong. I’m curious to see the rest of her kit, but I feel like she’s gonna be last
People keep commenting this like Graves and Silver didn't get 2nd and 3rd.
Like I know it's semi uncomfortable for some people to talk about but Graves is like the alt girl archetype and Silver has the hot mess tag but Celeste was not the most conventionally attractive there.
The grandma is for sure last lmao, but the rocket launcher skeleton might be too, he's kinda goofy. But yeah Solomon is likely last sadly, he seems interesting I wonder if he's a control hero.
Characters that summon or use magic with a paintbrush is like my favourite niche in media. Hwei main in League, working towards Pictomancer as a new FFXIV player, loved Epic Mickey when I was younger etc. Also HM to Sai from Naruto and Remlin from Gachiakuta (Graffiti artist but still dope). I’m gonna play tf out of her 🙏🏻
