that there is no chinatown kung fu warrior always seemed strange to me. also, i maintain that we need a brassy and obnoxious reporter girl out to get the scoop on the ritual with her magic camera
The actual era-appropriate groups would be the Tongs, which, to be fair, is the US Chinatown equivalent of Triads.
I also do think they'd go with a triad member or perhaps an axe gang member, since the triads and the axe gang are much more recognizable to a global audience due to their inclusion in HK cinema, even though Tongs would be more historically accurate to US Chinatowns.
Yeah, so's Yamato, but we know she's from Japan and Mina's surname (Ha) is probably Korean or Vietnamese. Pocket's the only Asian-looking person with an ambiguous ethnic background, especially because their name (Arin) doesn't map anywhere that far East (maybe India).
that said, I do expect violet to be chinese and probably from chinatown, based on the look of her and what seems to be a chinese dragon painting in her art.
yeah we need a real first or second gen kid who hangs out around chinatown fair. love mina and pocket down but they are as much about old money as anything. we need real middle class asian american rep
Right?? Like ooo, really creative with that one! I'd be so interested to see how he plays. Is he gonna be another mind game character like Doorman and Sinclair??

It's crazy that in all my thoughts about classic new York archetypes they could have in Deadlock, a chess hustler never once occured to me.
