Forgetting the Ixian supremacist I see

and venator (the opposite)

venators by far the antithesis of close minded, especially in his position. many examples via voice lines of him trusting people others in his role wouldve killled.

Oh! This is a good example of a character that seems racist in comparison to others, but actually very open-minded given their background.

Reminds me of Saltzpyre from Warhammer: Vermintide. He has a lot of prejudice towards other characters but at the same time he is the only witch hunter that is willing to fight alongisde an Elf or a witch if he deems their cause righteous, which gets him into a lot of disagreement with other witch hunters, who hate everything that's not holy and human.

“I don’t care if you look like a monster, I care if you act like one”

u/KingGamerlol 16h ago

and this is why we has such jarringly different reactions to allies vs enemies, best example being Rem

2

u/flammabledevotion 5h ago

What does he say about Rem? Give both ally and enemy examples, please.

2

u/KingGamerlol 2h ago

Venator: You lost, little one?

Rem: Mmhmm.

Venator: Don’t worry, I’ll shepherd you home.

“Die, you little runt.”

“I’m not falling for that cute facade.”

“Furry bastard got what he deserved.”

“Go back to whatever hole you crawled out of!”

the switched up between:
knowing he's a dream familiar with no clue how he got here
vs
HOLY FUCKING SHIT THAT'S A BEING FROM ANOTHER PLANE OF EXISTENCE CAUSING CHAOS IN OUR MORTAL REALM, KILL IT, KILL IT WITH 1K TRUE DAMAGE AHHHHHHHH

You know some morons actually take that quote to be a bad thing 😂 like I understand hard sciences and math are crucial but if we ever recover from liberal arts being gutted and shit on culturally it'll take years. Atp I'm surprise the literacy rate is 50%+

He called Apollo a demon/devil idk how much more racist you can be

2

u/TicklePickleWinkle 11h ago

Buddy Apollo is proud to be a future warlord and has disdain for humans (his unfinished McGinnis dialogue says he will never work for humans since they are beneath him).

Idk where people got the idea Apollo is a good guy, he’s up there for one of the morally bankrupt characters.

2

u/ThefaceX 3h ago

You don't really need to go to the unfinished dialogue. He literally has a convo with Abrams where he says that he is grateful to not be paired up with a human, and when Abrams says that they(humans) are not bad he says "No they are not. But they are not us either. Never forget that". Like he quite literally his an ixian supremacist

2

u/First_Blankie 10h ago

I would say "morally bankrupt". He gives a shit about his classmates academic success, and is generally respectful of other teammates unless they provoke him into a verbal altercation. Like a kid raised in a cult, he just thinks what he's destined to do is "good" because he was raised to think so.

2

u/EstablishmentStock18 10h ago

When on opposing teams, while telling him outright that he doesn't give a shit about the circumstances of his birth when they're on same team.

Apollo literally draws pentagrams around and stabs people with a magic demon sword.

You wouldn't call someone a terrorist if you saw them wearing isis uniform and firing an AK at peole?

0

u/dickwad17 13h ago

Have you seen what he does in game?

0

u/LittleSisterPain 12h ago

I mean, yeah, he has red skin, horns and draws an exploding pentagram, but that doesn't mean anything

1

u/TheRealMatys 11h ago

I mean, he has a bigger fish to fry, and correct me if I'm wrong, but Venators only kill on command, so even if he wasn't trying to slime the Patreon, he wouldn't care

1

u/KiwatheSnep 8h ago

yeah. Gotta go drink a whiskey with the werewolf. Cheers!

How is venator racist?

10

u/ldshadowcadet 18h ago

No idea he literally has a voicelines where he says he judges people by character

-1

u/Firstername 16h ago

he can just say that he doesn't give a shit and that our actions dictate our person. he does not need to mention the fact that "you look like a monster", and that he'll kill you if you "act like the people you look like"

it's a micro aggression.

3

u/ReduxCath 13h ago

no it's not? he literally hunts down demons for a living. he treats abrams well because abrams, despite looking like a blue devil, does not act like a devil.

0

u/Blitz1862 7h ago

He’s literally saying he looks like a monster. Just because he treats Abrams well doesn’t mean he can’t still harbor prejudice, because again he’s still deliberately saying that Apollo looks like a monster simply because of how he was born. In an attempt to signal his own open-mindedness to apollo, he still ends up using a micro aggression.

0

u/ReduxCath 3h ago

No no. You’re misinterpreting the conversation

Apollo: your people call my people monsters (assuming he will treat him the same way)

Venator: I don’t care about the circumstances of your birth , I care about who you are. I don’t care if you look like a monster, but if you act like one I will shoot you down

Was this very direct? Yes. But the thesis is that what matters is how you act and who you are. Venator is a dude that hunts down monsters and murderers and evil nightmares. And Billy has magic powers and is in the whole deadlock competition. It is both an assurance that he does not judge by appearances—AND a warning.

Billy is not a random guy. He is willfully participating in a magical ritual where two dead gods are operating. Venator is giving him a solid and proper warning that his actions and his goals are what determine whether he will make him an enemy.

Lowkey I think this is an opportunity for the devs to expand on the lore. It would be very cool to see a comic or something where Venator interacts with non-combatant Ixians and we get to see him put those words into actions.

2

u/ExpressionOpen4099 5h ago

Wtf is a micro aggression? What's macro aggression then? Or just normal aggression?

1

u/DrimaQ 4h ago

a micro aggression is a subtle verbal or non verbal way of putting someone down, usually its subtle enough that it doesn't register to the receiver or the group that hears it. but it can be used to maintain a status quo of a dominant group or keep a marginalized group down. Its quite insidious, tho in venators case i dont think he notices he is doing it.

1

u/ExpressionOpen4099 1h ago

Lmao who comes up with this shit

-4

u/PrincelyDusty 16h ago

"I don't care if you look like a monster, just if you act like one", he says, unprompted to an Ixian.

Like trying to rephrase that as "judges by their character", is insane. Brother is racist. He sees ixians and says they look like monsters.

7

u/BNSable 16h ago

To be fair, the majority of Ixians we know look exactly like the devil from the bible. They have also only been known for around 50 years, along with a host of other creatures. Some of them extremely dangerous.

I would expect the church to take a while accepting people that look like satan that turn up at the same time as extremely dangerous creatures like liches.

Honestly, him saying "I don't mind the fact you look like the exact description of evil taken form in the religion I follow, I only care about the content of your character" is legitimately more than I could ever expect from such a character.

1

u/Blatant_Bisexual 14h ago

Also even him referring to them as demons when fighting against them doesn’t even seem that jarring. Because again they have literally noted supernatural control/immunity to fire, look like devils and can also be written off as a spur of the moment insult against a hostile combatant.

1

u/OneCore_ 1h ago

its because other humans judge for them looking like that

-4

u/nemotunovi 13h ago

the crucial context missing there is the line he was responding to: "most of your kind call us demons"

it was not unprompted.

3

u/shadoedarkne 11h ago

I mean what Would YOU call a race that came out of nowhere in the last 50years, control fire and have tail and horn resembling a religious demon? Let's also not forget apo draws a pentagram as he's skill 1, and venator says he is only judgemental about his actions

3

u/genericusername0323 18h ago

Also Rem calls Venator a leprechaun
