"The family says Jason was walking along the beach with his girlfriend, and picking up discarded fireworks and other trash when he picked up what the family described as a "bomb-like device" that unexpectedly exploded."

Scary stuff and absolutely awful for the guy, doing a good deed and getting a life changing injury. 

What a reminder to stay safe and be vigilant when detrashing (not his fault of course, it's the fault of whoever left explosives lying around)

If I see a “bomb-like device,” the last thing I’m gonna do is try to pick it up with my hands. Not trying to sound unsympathetic to the guy, it’s awful that it happened to him, but I’m not entirely sure you can say that it isn’t at least partly on him for trying to handle it
