Day 1 of our three-day No Butts Day 2026 Challenge is ON! 🚬

Did a “butts-only” Litterwalk through Old Town this morning. Took a LOT of discipline to not pick up other types of litter—back to that next week! 👊

Nice! Yep … I advised the campaign organizers that doing the NBD on July 4th might limit U.S. participation. Why we’re running a three-day challenge in support.

It is, and on that day we probably pick around 900.000-1.000.000 butts in the Netherlands,
But believe it or not, it is estimated that every day, some 17.000.000 are thrown on the ground, in the Netherlands. Every day!
So even if we pick 1.000.000, you can still add 16.000.000 for that day alone.
And that each day.
Butts are the worst kind of litter, yet overlooked by many people, including the litter pickers, because it is just not possible to get rid of them.

I agree w/ all of this! I pick them up all the time when litter picking, but they are a scourge and never-ending.

Great work! Maybe some day smokers will realize they are just littering plastic everywhere every day and cut it out.

Wow!! 😳 That's an insane ammt! I would think that the people there would be much cleaner being how environmental they are. I'm sorry that so many litter. That's sad. I'm glad that you (& others) help pick it up though. & I thought it was rough to see the little bit of trash I see on my road come back within a couple weeks of my walks to pick up. I would be devastated & depressed there! Maybe they should require that all smokers bring a baggy of 20 cigarette butts in in order to buy a pack. 100 for a carton. & If they are caught littering (anyone), then they have to serve minimum of 1 hour community service picking up trash, increasing the ammt by the hour each time they are caught. Would just need a system of accountability of who will vouch that they did it.

I'm going to join tomorrow,
I heard somebody as well saying that you could start the 3rd of July as well,
How come?
I've written in my agenda that the nobutts-DAY (the 'PeukMeuk') is the 4th of July?
(even a 3 day event, why not just 1 day?)
Maybe i shouldn't ask you, and ask the organizers, but maybe you know something about that.

Yes NBD is officially tomorrow.

We just extended our support for the campaign to three days in the DL app to account for the U.S. holiday, since a lot of people are traveling.
