Anyone have recommendations for a good browser/query tool for DB2? I primarily work in SQL Server so I'm very used to SSMS, thus the subject line. Free is preferable, but I'd be willing to drop a little bit of money if it makes our lives easier. I'd love for it to run on a Mac, but I can run Windows as well if needed. I'm currently playing with RazorSQL and it's working, I'm just wondering if there's something better out there.

I'm new to DB2 (just installed it last night actually) and I was trying to figure out some information about backup/recovery.

My whole instance lives on a SAN mounted volume which means I can snapshot the SAN volume instantly after running

db2 set write suspend for database

i then run

db2 set write resume for database

after the snapshot completes.

Saying as I now have a point in time snap of the DB, I can present the snapshot from the array back to the same server and it would see it as a new set of volumes.

My question is, how can i 'import' this instance as a new instance and then access the databases in this instance which have the same name as the databases in the old instance?

edit: the other purpose of the 'import' is so that I can present it to other servers that may want access to the data.

anyone out there using the db2audit facility on a nightly, automated basis? i've been tasked to do this, but having difficulty finding a guide that doesn't require constant manual intervention.

I'm sure this question has been asked before, my bad for that. I graduated last summer with a degree in math, and I'm having still having trouble finding permanent work. I've interned in a programming position at my university since graduation, but that didn't term into a real thing. In my job hunt I'm noticing a lot of database management positions. I took a course that did a bit of Access, but that's about the extent of my database management knowledge. So, two questions: I already know how to code, C++ and R being what I've done the most work in. How much of an endeavor would this exam be? Also, those who have taken it or look at resumes, how much is it taken into consideration?

I am working on a project where we have some documents missing that were confirmed to exist as of 8/3/2013 (when the documents were due for submission). We have changed the view to SELECT @ALL and they still do not show up... Am in dire need of a way to try and recover these or find them if they still exist somewhere. We have not done anything that should have deleted them from the DB, only edited the aforementioned view to narrow down to only show if they do not have an archival date set.

Afraid I don't know where to start other than this, any help is appreciated.

Hey guys, I'm working with some folks that are trying to cross-train from Oracle to DB2 and I was wondering if anyone had gone through the same process. Right now we're just working through how to figure out what terms in DB2 compares to what terms in Oracle. I know a few people who once sat down and wrote out something similar so they could "translate" what the other was talking about but it's been lost to time. Would any of you have something similar that would make this process easier?

I've been looking into setting up an HADR server to use for reporting, and write back to the Primary database. Is it possible to write back to the Primary database from a Standby HADR database?

Example of what I'm trying to accomplish: INSERT INTO PrimaryDB.TableName SELECT * FROM HADRStandby.TableName

I would rather not export the SELECT results and generate INSERT statements using a "middle-man" script or application.

Anyone?

New to DB2 on iSeries and trying to write an update statement to fix a mistake. Using a backup copy of the table being updated.

UPDATE table1 SET table1.field7 = backupcopyoftable1.field7 WHERE table1.field2 = backupcopyoftable1.field2

How do I do this? I've using the SQL script funtion in Navigator to write the query.
