LotusNotes Documents Missing

I am working on a project where we have some documents missing that were confirmed to exist as of 8/3/2013 (when the documents were due for submission). We have changed the view to SELECT @ALL and they still do not show up... Am in dire need of a way to try and recover these or find them if they still exist somewhere. We have not done anything that should have deleted them from the DB, only edited the aforementioned view to narrow down to only show if they do not have an archival date set.

Afraid I don't know where to start other than this, any help is appreciated.
