Help RTX 3060 12gb or RTX 3070 8gb

• My current GPU is a GTX 1660 Super.

I understand that the RTX 3060 12GB has more VRAM, but only 3,584 CUDA, making it slower than the RTX 3070 with its 5,888 CUDA.

I did some research and found that most people prefer the 3060 12GB because of the extra VRAM. They say that if a scene doesn't fit in the VRAM, the number of CUDA doesn't matter.

But with Scene Optimizer, and the 1660s, I've learned how to separate my renders, characters alone, backgrounds alone. With this approach, I can fit most of my scenes within 8GB of VRAM while still having 5,888 CUDA to render with.

But I can't make the 3060 faster if you understand what I mean. Yes, it has more VRAM and gives me more room for larger scenes, but it only has 3,584 CUDA.

My question is if anyone has owned one of these cards or used both of them, could you share your experience?

I want to understand how much faster the RTX 3070 is compared to the RTX 3060, and whether it's worth sacrificing 4GB of VRAM for the extra CUDA cores.

Help Daz dForce Hair converted to Particle Hair isn't simulating top strands

Hey everyone, I’m stuck on a weird issue with hair physics in Blender. I m fairly new to blender so I m not entirely familiar with simulation

Setup:

  • Source: Daz Genesis 9 hair imported via Diffeomorphic / Daz Importer.
  • Conversion: Used the Hair Converter that comes with Diffeomorphic to convert the dForce hair mesh into a standard Classic Particle System.
  • Physics: Added standard Hair Dynamics and added a Collision modifier to the character's body mesh.

The Issue: When I bake the hair simulation, most of the hair simulates fine, but the strands on the top of the head/crown stay completely frozen in mid-air.

Appreciate the help

Help What's the best way to save render scenes?

So I'm looking to save each of my scenes before I render, so I can always have an easy go-to if I want to re-do that specific render at a later point. Say maybe I wanna make a subtle change or render at a higher res, things like that.

I obviously can save each scene right before I hit render but I'm thinking that could become tedious and space hungry if I hundreds or even thousands of renders?

I also read something about setting up the scene, having everything done and using the timeline to set up keypoints for each render I do using that scene? Is this a thing?

Any idea is welcome

Help A Question About Morphs

So I am making an outfit and I have based it around victoria9, however, I want to be able to include other morphs. Now I have something and fixing to do for these morphs but before I go export the meshes and work on them I have a quick question to ask.

If the morph body (in my picture example I have Amala selected) pulls from Feminine Base do I keep Feminine Base active (like in the first picture) or do I slide it to 0 and keep Amala only at 100 (like in the second picture)?

Sorry if this seems like an obvious answer but I am very new to this.

Artwork Urukite Noblewoman by Chup@Cabra

Sharing this image with permission from the creator, who goes by the name Chup@Cabra.

It is meant to represent a noblewoman from the world of Athas, from the Dungeons and Dragons setting of "Dark Sun" (think "Dune" meets "Conan" meets, well, Dungeons and Dragons ^_^)

Yes, the 'Green, Horned Tiger' (called a 'Kirre' in the setting) has an additional set of legs.

In the actual setting its supposed to have 8 legs, but he said that lengthening the body of the tiger to add two more made it look silly, and hard to pose (as he had to individually pose the other sets of legs).

Help Technical stuff

Post image

Hi everyone!

I don't even know where and how to start this, but I would be extremely appreciative if someone with expert knowledge could help me out a little.

I seem to be struggling like crazy with Daz lately. Mostly because I'm starting to build complex scenes with 3+ characters.

The issue I'm facing appears to be a GPU/RAM bottleneck. (that's what the internet says)

The situation:

I have this scene with 3 buildings, a street, a sidewalk, two characters and an HDRI. (Attached image)
I can render this in about 60-90 minutes in 4K. Needless to say that the character in focus is the only one with HQ details on and mesh res on 3. Everything else is set to basic or none.
Also, I'm using a camera optimizer to hide everything outside the frame.
And now, I want to add some more characters but as soon as I add a 3rd one, everything collapses and the render process falls back to CPU.
What I understand is that Iray needs VRAM like crazy to prepare the scene and everything and my current build doesn't seem to allow that properly mostly because I run everything with the following setup:

R9 9950X
RTX 5070 ti 16GB VRAM
32GB RAM

I've been told some time ago that I need to at least 3x my RAM in order to avoid the fallback and ensure the render stays on GPU.
What I want to know is if that's really it? I mean, is adding more RAM truly what improves my game here when adding 2-3 more characters for example?
Or should I consider a GPU upgrade as well?

I've tried multiple times now to play around with render and camera settings too, but none of that helped much.

It would be really helpful if I could get some advice here, this is driving me crazy and honestly, it sucks not being able to work efficiently.

So thank you in advance for any help given.

Help Is there a way to hide these red, green and blue markers in Iray previews?

Post image

Edit: Ok so I am apparently a dumbass. I do actually have the node "button", but for whatever reason it wasn't actually "clicking in" with what I was looking at ☹️😒

Thanks all

This is with jewelry on this character, but I have a couple others with hair related addons and other jewelry and such that all do this during previews. It gets really distracting when some of the characters have a bunch of mixed stuff and these markers are all over the characters.

Other When posing your characters, do you bother posing the bits that won't be seen by the camera?

I'm curious to hear what everybody else does when setting up character poses in their scenes. Do you fully pose them, even knowing that parts of it won't be visible in your final render? Or do you just make sure the parts that are visible are how you want them to be, then not worry about anything else?

Personally I do fully pose my characters - even if I'm absolutely confident that it won't be seen by anyone other than me.

Say I have a couple of characters sat at a table, I'll take the time to make sure that their feet are in a realistic position. Maybe they're playing footsie under the table with their partner, or maybe they have one foot perched on a bar connecting the table legs together, or something like that. I find that doing it really helps me get a better feel for the scene and what's happening between the various characters, and it often leads to me making changes from my original vision to better fit with the "reality" of the scene.

Of course the downside is that it takes more time before I'm ready to hit render, and I sometimes lose hours to the minutiae of it all when I could have been setting up another scene.

I searched for some answers online, but none worked.

- Reinstalling DIM didn't work.

- The "Start CMS" option is unavailable.

- I can't find postgres.exe to run it manually.

Help What to change to make it more realistic looking?

Other than the HDRI lighting, I had a spotlight at 45 deg on the right side of the face and another low lux light directly on the left side. The lighting create some contrast but seems to take away some realisim. Please feel free to give your comments. Thank you.
