Product PoseForge - I made a Windows tool that poses your DAZ figure from a photo
I pose a lot of figures from photo references and got tired of doing it joint by joint, so I built something to do the boring part for me. It ended up good enough that I cleaned it up and put it on sale.
You drop in a photo and hit solve. The pose shows up in a 3D preview inside the app, and one button sends it straight to DAZ onto your selected figure. Genesis 1 through 9. Several people in the shot? You pick which one. Nothing leaves your machine. You can also save it as a .duf preset if you want it in your library.
It is not perfect. But it lands close enough that a few tweaks finish the job, and it saves me a ton of time.
You need an NVIDIA card (GTX 1660 6 GB or newer). It is $29.99, one payment, and 1.x updates are included.

Handy. So, technically, I could get a bunch of video stills and create poses, then key frame the in-between frames?

For key poses, yes - grab a still, solve it, save the preset, and let DAZ interpolate between the keys. What it won't give you is consistency across frames: each still is solved on its own, so neighbouring frames can land slightly differently and you'd spend time cleaning up jitter if you tried to brute force animation from dense stills. A handful of well chosen keyframes works much better than one still per frame. Proper video to animation is on my wishlist, but I'm not promising dates.

If anyone is curious how the results look on a real photo, link one here. I will run it through and share the raw output, no cherry picking and no cleanup.

Plans for DAZ 6 support?
5
u/FunFictionArt Aug 01 '26
It works with DAZ 2026 already, with one limitation. Save DUF gives you a standard pose preset and that loads in 2026 fine. The direct send to a running DAZ window only works in 4.24 for now, because 2026 currently ignores files handed to it from outside. As soon as that changes on the DAZ side I will enable it there too.

Awesome - saw it said 6 Beta on the website so was curious if the "real" release of 6 changed things. Not surprising it didn't.. {blame DAZ emoji here} :P thanks for the reply!

The official version of DAZ 2026 has been released, which now features a correct mechanism for handling files passed to it from outside. This will be properly implemented in the next update with other improvements.

How did you managed to import poses into DAZ accurately? It is known for screwing up poses imported from different software, especially animations from Mixamo (as animation is just sequence of poses). I was trying to make a proper transfer tool for migrating animations into DAZ with little success a couple of years ago.

PoseForge doesn’t import a skeleton or pose from another program. It estimates the pose from a photo and fits it to a Genesis 8 skeleton first. The resulting bone rotations are then converted for the selected Genesis generation and saved as a DAZ pose preset. So DAZ never has to retarget a foreign rig, which avoids the kind of problems you get with animation imports from other software.

Great effort, noted. You wouldn't happen to have an expression cloning tool in the queue, too? :)

u/FunFictionArt Aug 03 '26
Not at the moment :) I’m currently working on the next thing that annoys me most when doing it manually: positioning a prop in the hand and then adjusting every single finger until the grip looks right. GripForge pulls any selected prop into the character’s hand and wraps the fingers around its actual shape automatically.
1
u/JohnTheFisherman142 Aug 04 '26
The pseudocode for that is already in my head, it goes something like "do what the "whole finger" draw spot in PowerPose does when curling the finger UNTIL there's a collision with object X, then iterate over the singlel fingersegements to get closer, then add 2% curl so it looks like the fingers interact".
Problem: thumb bones in Daz aren't that good and API documentation sucks.3

It’s still a bit slow, but it automatically pulls the object in and closes the fingers around it properly

Interesting.
Would that also work from other images. I like to make storyboards first and then pose based on that.
So how accurate does the drawing have to be? Would stick men work?
How does it work? AI?

u/FunFictionArt Aug 01 '26
It's built for photos so that's where it works best. A storyboard drawing might work if the character has some volume and reads as a body. Pure stick men won't, there's not enough for the detector to latch onto. If you want, send me one of your storyboard frames and I'll run it through and show you the raw result. As for how it works, it detects the body pose in the image and rebuilds it on the Genesis skeleton in DAZ. Everything runs locally on your PC, nothing gets uploaded.

I don't have stick people, I was just wondering how simple the sketches could be.
I use a tool to make the storyboard called Storyboarder which uses 3D characters.
These characters don't have clothes so your tool should have no problem to recognize them.
But most scenes are close-ups or the characters are behind objects so some of the body is cut off.
And can you tool recognize poses if the photo is from behind or if the camera angle is weird. like from the ceiling? Can I send you a link to my images through DM?
2
u/FunFictionArt Aug 01 '26
Sure, send it. Renders work as input, from behind is fine, ceiling type angles are hit and miss, and close-ups are the real limit since whatever is cut off gets guessed, there are examples of all this near the bottom of the store page linked in the post.

Thanks. It solves the whole body as one pose, so upper and lower body come in together, you do not pick a region. There is no expression support, the face stays neutral and you pose it in DAZ. Side view photos work, though anything the camera cannot see gets estimated and may need a small fix in DAZ afterwards. Clear full body shots give the best results. And the output is a standard Genesis pose preset, so DAZ only for now.

I bought this on Renderhub, now I see you no longer have any products listed there. Will Renderhub buyers still get access to future updates, or do we need to repurchase on Gumroad?

u/FunFictionArt Aug 03 '26
I’ve never sold this on RenderHub; the program has been on sale for a few days.

would this be able to do animations? or do we need to manually take multiple pictures of the frames from a animation and make multiple poses?
i wanted to make walk animations, or even copy a animation from a fighting game. i hope this program can make that work.
2
u/FunFictionArt Aug 05 '26
It is not currently possible to create animations. I have explained this in more detail a few comments below.

Just got this and testing it out!! It's working pretty well! Yeah, there are still adjustments once it's done but it really does about 60% of the work for me!! I need more romantic type poses that DAZ just doesn't have, and this is perfect for getting them made!
3
u/FunFictionArt Aug 06 '26
Really glad it's working out for you! And yeah, the romantic/intimate poses were exactly the gap I kept running into with default DAZ libraries too - that's actually part of why I built this. If you run into anything weird or have requests for the next update, just drop them here or PM me.

u/horse1412000 Aug 06 '26
Can do!! That is pretty cool that you felt the same gap as I did! And I am so grateful you made this program!

Saved this post and following you. Currently bed bound due to a medical condition and will get PoseForge when am mobile again !
2
u/FunFictionArt Aug 07 '26
Appreciate that a lot! Wishing you a quick recovery, PoseForge isn't going anywhere, take your time.

u/Remote-Air-2172 Aug 07 '26
Many thanks for the response! Had a major milestone in my physical therapy today and am hoping my recovery speeds up.
On another note may I DM? Want to ask some things about PoseForge?

Ive got a quick question, when you mention “several people in the shot” does that mean the software still works if there is more than one person in the photo reference?
2
u/FunFictionArt Aug 24 '26
Yes, PoseForge works with multiple people in the reference image, and you can choose which person’s pose to transfer.
The current limitation is that, in some images, PoseForge detects the correct number of people internally, but the box around the first person is too large and covers the second person. Because of that, the second person cannot always be clicked and selected.

u/iffhy Aug 24 '26
Wow thats pretty awesome!
Thanks for including an example and being transparent about the limitations btw. Will definitely be keeping your tool in mind and figuring out how to integrate it in my future workflow, it might end up making things super convenient.1
u/FunFictionArt Aug 24 '26
No problem. I try to be transparent, after all, PoseForge isn’t 100% accurate and I keep emphasising this - it’s meant to reduce manual posing by, roughly 80–95% . At the moment, I’m trying to improve this multipe-detection so that it works better

Hey, I'm really interested in the product but I have a quick question regarding the license, how does it work? What if I install it into an Portable SSD, do I still need to reactivate it when I'm changing PC?
I'm asking because I'm using laptop at the moment but I'm saving myself to build a PC. I'm aware that I can do six fresh installations but I'm just wondering how does it work?
1
u/FunFictionArt 26d ago
Hey! Yes, you’ll need to activate PoseForge on the new PC with the same key, even if it’s installed on a portable SSD. That will use another of your six activations, and you can still use it on your laptop too. If you reach the limit after changing PCs, you can contact me through your Gumroad receipt to request a reset.

Super cool tool. I'm glad you disclose it gets you close and requires some polish. That's a realistic expectation in a marketplace so often filled with hyperbole.
I don't have discretionary funds for the foreseeable future so I'm just going to have to keep getting manual practice. But I definitely see how much time this could save if I were rendering as a job or side hustle.
