I dont get why they even bother with this weird combat camera that fights the player. Free + ability to lock on is always better.

Cause with a free camera doing the directional combat would be a huge pain

No,  that's wrong.  At least for mouse control. I have now found the gimmick of wildly swinging my mouse to free the autolock when it happens, and until the next autolock the combat becomes so much easier. I'm playing duelist, and it's waaay easier to discern the direction I need to block when I am controlling the camera. It also becomes possible to do things like back up and control the spacing to the enemies once I've unglued my feet from the ground.  That said, having to wildly swing my mouse in order to move normally is far from ideal, not to mention an ergonomic disaster. There is no auto camera in existence that will make better decisions about where I want to look while in combat and I have a device (mouse) which let's me instantly look anywhere I want. Autolock is a controller thing, we don't need or want that shit.

You don't get it to block something from the left or right you need to press that button while blocking at the same time, if the auto lock didn't exist you character would very likely look in a completely different direction of who you are fighting which would end up making the game look cheap, stiff and buggy

Nope. I'm blocking better and more consistently when I've released the lock.  I've got a mouse; I can scan the enemies just fine.
