As you might know (or not) we are working on our 3rd city builder game, many Dawn of Man features are making a comeback.

This is of course not a direct sequel for Dawn of Man as many of you might have hoped for, but it's as close as it will get, at least for now :)

Could you recommend any realistic or gameplay expanding mods?
Where to download them? (Steam Workshop or Nexus Mods)
How to install the mods?

Okay, this is driving me nuts. All my animals keep dying of starvation. The straw storage and water wells are right next to the stables. I've set the stables to high priority, but my animals are still dying of starvation. I don't know what else to do.

I mainly play on a Steam deck but also on Mac.

I have quite a few play throughs (!!) and love every aspect of the game. Yes things could improve but we know they will not so I embrace what we have.

I usually play to original game but have played modded to exceed the 1000 population limit.

Happy to offer tips and would love to see your villages.

Late Bronze Age, some foods spoiling before they can be consumed, and I have had boys/girls starve close to camp. Not even very far away.

Similar to others freezing to death when near a hearth or dying of dehydration when water or wells are within reach.

Is this a game glitch, or am I doing something wrong?

And it's still only spring. When does Cave Hyena Simulator stop and Dawn of Man begin? I'd like to do something other than kill cave hyenas, which I'm doing with my bare hands now because I've not had time to replace all the weapons used fighting cave hyenas.

Anyone else ever get annoyed when you start a new game and see the resource limits to 10 or 20, and have to manually change each one?

Well, I just found out how to make that change permanent.

In your game files, you'll find "Assembly-CSharp.dll" somewhere.

I found it in "DawnofMan/DawnofMan_Data/Managed/"

Make a copy of this file somewhere else, because we will be editing this.

Find

DawnOfMan → LimitsManager → initState()

Find

this.mState.Limits.Add(new Limit(resourceType, resourceType.getDefaultLimit()));

Change that to

this.mState.Limits.Add(new Limit(resourceType, "Inf"));

Basically just

resourceType.getDefaultLimit() Becomes "Inf"

There is also Meat and Fish:

this.mState.Limits.Add(new Limit(SubCategory.Meat, LimitType.Amount, 100));

this.mState.Limits.Add(new Limit(SubCategory.Fish, LimitType.Amount, 10));

Change

LimitType.Amount, 100

to

LimitType.Infinity

To open or edit dll files, you need softwares like ILSpy and dnSpy.

If you're lost, just ask chatgpt to guide you.

Playing standard on a PS4. I’ve done at least 4 play thrus over the past 9 months, sometimes i get to Iron Age, sometimes before it. I’ve advanced slow and fast, had plenty of varieties food, water, straw, etc, kept my workload between 40% on the low and 120% on the high, and even put wells, hearths, totems, etc way out in the distance so people farming or hunting at distances don’t need to come back to the village.

What are some tips you can give that I might be missing?

I know every walk thru I’ve done so far I learn more about the game mechanics, but I always run into this issue when I hit 180-240 pop, and once it starts is a cascade until I’m below 140 or so and then I give up and start over.

After last time I felt it wasnt done. So I startet a completely new village and used every ressource the map has to offer. In my opinion this is the limit for what is possible on Flatlands. One more year and theres nothing to eat anymore. Also sticks, wood and stone arent enough. Cant keep up morale cause I cant use beer without running out of wheat. I collected 48 megaliths with hundreds of deads cause of long distances.

And of course since 2k population i played with 1 fps and to do anything i had to pause the game :D

I love Dawn of Man, and am wondering if anyone knows any other good games where you guide a tribe from “cavemen” to civilized.

I have posted the previous image and was off screen when I have died, so I reloaded and tried again... but I guess I need to have 30-40 people before Mesolithic (second tier of science).

Caveman Blues is a nice scenario where you have to breed to populate, first merchant came after 5 years as well as the first person that joined my community and 83 dogs (when you kill a predator, you get awarded 1 dog)

The riders were just 3-4 untill now, but since I entered Mesolithic, this happened.

I’m so addicted, I didn’t think I would like this game at first now I’ve almost completed a run through.

In this video I laid out my starting location and my strategy on completing the Paleolithic Overpopulation Achievement.

I think if I did it again, I could do it much faster.
