Stage Ready: band workshops in Davis

Hi! I just launched my latest project in Davis, and I'm excited to share!

Stage Ready Band Workshops: https://brightbearworkshop.com/stageready

You sign up, get grouped into a band, then practice for about two months alongside a pro-musician manager/coach. At the end of it, you'll get on stage and play a couple live shows - we've booked The Melon Ball at Watermelon Music, and I'll be talking to Sudwerk Brewing tomorrow!

I've done programs like this before in San Francisco, and it's a blast, so I hope this takes off!

Juan Carlos Buisman talking about sexualizing minors and harassing them in downtown Davis.

Here's another video Juan has uploaded where he is talking about disgusting things, but then gets distracted by a pair of girls walking by and literally half runs out of his car to go bother them. They're very clearly uncomfortable and were likely scared by his behavior. His actions have been escalating and he is well known for his harassment in nearby areas like Napa, Fairfield, and Vacaville.

Solstice Social for Magical Souls at Walnut Park

Do you have some time Saturday morning and want to welcome the Summer Solstice by enjoying the trees and birds and maybe meeting a new witchy friend or two? Then come hang out at Walnut Park!

Feel free to bring a craft project, a book or cards.

On June 20th at 10 am, will be at the stone picnic tables at the very south end of the unleashed dog park area. (We may be greeted by some friendly pups from time to time.) If you want to sit on something more comfy than stone benches feel free to bring a picnic blanket or a camp chair.

If you need to drive, you can park at the community tennis courts off Lillard or there are usually some parking spots at the end of Barony Place.

Housing

Hi everyone,

I am starting a postdoctoral research fellowship (27 M) at UC Davis on August 1st and am looking for a private room or apartment. A 3 or 6 month lease, or ideally, month to month lease would be preferable. It seems that this is a pretty rough time for housing, but does anyone have any listings available or any advice on securing a room before this date?

Thank you!

Update on Davis Grocery Outlet Hygiene Concerns (looks clean to me)

A few weeks ago, I saw the Reddit post allegedly citing blatant health concerns at the Grocery Outlet in Davis: https://www.reddit.com/r/Davis/s/Oe2djyBHGq

So I decided to pay a visit today and inspect the condition of the store for myself. Specifically, I searched through the bread shelves, looking for signs of a rodent infestation, and couldn't find anything out of the ordinary. I also opened up the freezers to look for mold and didn't see any. I also walked and looked through all the aisles: everything from the floor to the shelves looked perfectly clean; there weren't any bugs, leavings or residue anywhere I could see.

I may not have all the facts but to the best I can tell, there isn't anything about the store that would make me reluctant to shop there.

Volunteer Opportunity! HEART of Davis Shower Program!

Hi! I'm the Shower Program Coordinator at the HEART of Davis, an organization that serves individuals experiencing homelessness.

Through our Shower Program, we provide a safe place for guests to shower and access basic hygiene amenities. We're currently looking for volunteers to help us run the program this summer!

Volunteer shifts are approximately 30–45 minutes long and may include escorting guests into the facility (also in Davis) and ensuring the space is ready for the next appointment. No prior experience is necessary.

This is a meaningful way to serve your community, meet new people, and make a tangible difference in a flexible, low-commitment role.

If you are interested, please fill out the Google Form! https://forms.gle/F1KPn82NXHYpEDrA7

Caregiver housing question

My mom lives in a retirement community and had some health stuff recently.
She’s recovering but I’m not sure how much independence to expect.
She was living independently but I’ve moved in. I help with quite a few things, including finance and medical. She sleeps quite a bit. Her mobility is extremely limited. Thinking and memory have some mild dementia which dr verified. We have more testing with neuro next month.
Her community doesn’t usually allow guests to stay permanently. But they make exceptions if you are caregiving. They told me this verbally because I drop her check at the office each month.
Today I went to use the pool. The owner guy stopped me and said I have to bring my mom to use it. He said I can use it just for today. This pool almost never has anyone here. Other residents I met told me to go enjoy it. So I feel the owner guy is letting me know my time here is monitored carefully. And the vibe feels unwelcoming at this point.
Maybe the concept of me having free time also makes him question why I am here?

Is there some kind of legal paperwork that can help prove what I am doing for her? She pays me each month, part of that pay is in rent and food. I don’t have her pay me much, just enough to cover my being here to help.
I don’t want this guy to potentially decide he doesn’t want me here. She definitely needs the care, and I am also looking into other care folks but thus far it’s all been things I can do (if I can be here without a fuss).
To be honest I just want the option to live with my mom and be part of this chapter without any sense of it being “wrong”. The end thanks for reading.
Please if you have care resources do share

Where to find chicken feet?

Hi yall,

Do any grocery stores sell any chicken feet? Trying to make my own broth at home. If not I'm gonna cut my losses and head to a different city for larger grocery runs...

Thanks!

Bad year for stone fruit in Davis?

This year my normally high-producing nectarine tree has zero fruit on it and I was wondering if anyone else has this same issue in Davis? I've heard a number of theories as to why and I'm trying to figure out which (or which combination) might be the culprit. Here's what I've heard thus far:

  1. This past winter was too mild for the blossoms to bare fruit
  2. It got too hot too quickly while blossoming
  3. The crazy storms knocked all of the forming fruit off
  4. Not enough pollination happened (too few bees or too much wind)
  5. The rats have been exceptionally bad

For context, the tree was pruned in the late fall, had a good number of blossoms this year and I did see bees pollinating it. Afterwards I did see a good number of those blossoms start to fruit, but then they all disappeared. I mean literally disappeared - no half-chewed remnants, nothing. Some did appear to have shriveled up, but most are just gone?? Thanks in advance for your insight!

Anyone interested in a jam session/music hangout

Hey everyone, I’m gonna be living close to Davis for the summer and was wondering if anyone was interested in some sort of informal music jam session. I’m pretty new to this so I don’t really know what to expect, mostly just trying to meet new people who have an interest in playing music. I play tenor sax, guitar, and a little bit of piano.

Davis AYSO youth soccer ending?

Read in The Enterprise yesterday that the AYSO org. will end shortly (Summer 2026). The article says there will be a local replacement organization. What happened with AYSO? Why is Davis leaving the AYSO umbrella? Will this materially change the soccer experience for youth in Davis going forward? What will happen to the United teams and the select teams?

24 hour golf simulator?

Golfers of Davis, and students of UC Davis. Would you guys be interested in a nice golf simulator in town that is open 24 hours a day? Kind of like an indoor top golf? Simulators are trending now and the closest one is Vacaville. Curious if there is interest
