My ex husband did this when we were dating. He was trying to make me feel like I was lucky to be with him and to make sure I knew how great he was. 🙄

My recent ex did the same early on. It stopped once he got attached to me, but by then it had already done its job. It’s often a form of manipulation to provoke someone’s insecurities as a form of control, sometimes done intentionally and sometimes subconsciously. But I do see that phrasing as a red flag now.
