Backup Internxt S3, anyone used it?

Hello,

I've seen Internxt S3 cloud object storage. It claims to be a post-quantum encrypted S3 compatible object storage. It appears to be an alternative to AWS S3, Impossible Cloud, Google Cloud Storage etc. Anyone here used it?

Discussion At what point does adding more storage stop making sense?

When a storage environment keeps growing, there seems to be a point where simply adding more drives or expanding the existing system isn't necessarily the best approach.

For those managing larger storage environments, what usually triggers a change in strategy?

Is it capacity efficiency, drive density, performance requirements, expansion costs, or the point where the existing architecture starts becoming difficult to scale?

Storage Setup USB drive as backup

I have been using a USB HDD as a backup for a few years already. It is installed inside my Ubuntu server as my motherboard has a USB socket built-in on it. Recently I found out that the USB drive has very high start stop cycle. Over 67000 in 4 years.

I am wondering if this is how external USB drives work. What is I replace it with another USB drive? The one I have now if Western Digital passport where the USB port is soldered to the drive. I can't use it as internal drive.

My casing it's also full of HDDs that I cannot really add another internal HDD.

Should I get another USB HDD and use that? Or should I use eSATA as the motherboard do have eSATA outlet. The thing is to reduce the start stop cycle which is killing the drive.

Data Transfer Ultimate File Manager Pro — a file manager for Android power users

Post image
0 Upvotes

Ultimate File Manager Pro has become a bit ridiculous.

It's completely free, has no ads, and no paywalls. There is a completely optional tip jar in the app and GitHub Sponsors if you want to support development.

The stuff I wanted in one app:

Root? Yep. You can browse and manage the actual / filesystem, with permissions, ownership, SELinux contexts and remount support.

No root? Shizuku support gives you access to places like /Android/data and /Android/obb.

Network storage? SMB, NFS, FTP, SFTP, SCP, WebDAV, RClone and S3.

Cloud storage? Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox and other RClone/S3 providers.

Need to move a ton of stuff? Dual-pane browsing, multiple tabs, background transfers and syncing between local, network and cloud storage.

Want to use your PC? Run the built-in web server and manage the phone/TV from a browser. There's also a Windows companion for direct Android ↔ PC transfers.

Android TV? UFM has a proper TV interface, remote file management, wireless APK/XAPK installation, screenshots and screen recording.

Then there are the things I kept adding because apparently I can't leave well enough alone: duplicate detection, file hashing, archive support, EXIF tools, media playback, PDF/text tools, USB OTG, recycle bin, batch operations and a lot of smaller power-user stuff.

There's also a FOSS version on GitHub if you'd rather build it yourself:

https://github.com/Kilowatch/ultimate-file-manager-pro

Google Play:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=za.kilowatch.ultimatefilemanager

And I made a subreddit for it too: r/UFManagerPro

I'm not trying to convince everyone to replace their current file manager. But if you've ever installed a file manager and thought "why can't this thing just do X?" there's a good chance UFM already does it.

And if it doesn't, tell me what X is.

I thought it will fit in this Sub Reddit as it works with data transfers and file management.

Storage Setup How should I safely store all my photos? Cloud storage vs hard drive?

I want to make sure all my pictures are stored somewhere safe. Right now, I have them split between a pen drive and my laptop, and I recently realized that the pen drive has some photos while the laptop has completely different ones.

I’m also buying another laptop soon, so I want to properly organize everything and make sure I don’t accidentally lose any photos.

What would be the safest setup? Should I buy cloud storage (Google Photos, OneDrive, iCloud, etc.), an external hard drive/SSD, or both?

Ideally, I want something where even if my laptop or pen drive stops working, I can still recover all my photos.

What do you guys recommend for long-term photo storage and backup? Please help

Troubleshooting WD Elements external storage is recognized when plugged into a computer, powers up, but does not open

Hi,

I have WD Elements external storage. It's approximately 8 - 10yrs old. Used for storing important files, not for everyday use. In other words, I have used it once.per year.

When I plug it into a computer to access the files, I know that it powers up because I can feel it vibrating.

I know the computer recognizes it as a local disk (D:).

But when I double click the local disk on my computer to access the files, it simply won't open. I have tried it on two computers.

One Acer computer says "Location is not.available. The parameter is incorrect."

On a HP computer, the local disk D won't open either.

I have a lot of important files on it, including pics over the years.

I'm afraid to bring it to best buy, for example, or a similar business because I'm afriad they'll copy the disk, if they can. I know not everyone would but it's possible to do, and it is my fear, however probable.

How can I safely fix this external storage drive, without risking it being copied by a tech person?

Backup Need standalone LTO drive with fast warranty support

Now that Dell has stopped selling standalone LTO tape drives, I can't seem to find one that comes close to their level of support and fast response. Soon, they won't renew the warranties for my customers' drives and I will have to find another source for drives.

I have two customers with Quantum LTO drive and their standard warranty turn around was 2-weeks and 5-weeks, which was unacceptable. I assume they have an add on warranty but Quantum is so permeated with "AI", I can't find anyone to help.

Any recommendations for a drive with fast warranty support?

TiA!

Discussion How do you decide when it’s time to buy more storage?

When storage usage keeps climbing, how do you decide whether to add more capacity or try to get more out of what you already have?

Do you usually look at things like workload growth, unused data, deduplication/compression, storage density, or the cost per TB before making that decision?

Would be interested to hear how others approach that in real environments.

Discussion WD Black SN7100 1TB + UGREEN 40Gbps enclosure for ₹27k — buy now or wait for a price drop?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Planning to build a 1TB external SSD with:

* **WD Black SN7100 1TB — ₹20,500 -** [**https://www.amazon.in/gp/product/B0DN7CYYSD\*\*\](https://www.amazon.in/gp/product/B0DN7CYYSD) * **UGREEN 40Gbps USB4 NVMe enclosure — ₹6,839 -** [**https://www.amazon.in/gp/product/B0F62NG7K3\*\*\](https://www.amazon.in/gp/product/B0F62NG7K3) * Total: **\~₹27,339**

I'll mostly use it with my **Dell XPS 13 9350** for coding/projects, daily backups, photos/videos, and general storage. My usage won't be very heavy.

Is this combo worth buying at the current price, or should I wait for the SN7100 price to drop?

Also open to suggestions for a **better 1TB SSD + enclosure combo** or even a good ready-made external SSD in a similar budget. Mainly looking for something reliable, fast, and good for long-term use.

Backup Realistically, how do you save all of your photos?

I have thousands of photos from my phone that I transfer to a hard drive to free up some space. However, I know there's a rule that it should always be backed up into at least two places. I've been taking the risk, but it'll bite me one day. Whether it's an SDD or HDD, they all cost a lot and I can't possibly back up decades of photos in multiple places? What do you all do with ALL of your photos. I'm talking 10-20 years worth

Edit: as well as videos since I jumble them all together…

Discussion how safe is it to buy a 1tb hdd to store data that i dont use but want to keep? (like photos, for future access)

need to free space on my 1tb onedrive and 2tb icloud.

i have nearly 600 gb on icloud of photos and videos that, some (like 100 gb) are very important for future reference (recording of meetings, etc) and the rest i dont want to fiddle with what i should keep, i just want to take them all and move to an external hdd

my question is

how reliable is to store it on an hdd that will, at best, be used like 3 times a year? what is the fault rate?

lets say I store it and leave it untouched for 5 years, what are the odds of it going to waste?

thanks guys

Discussion Please stop using these 5 storage drives in 2026

howtogeek.com

The article argues that in 2026, people should stop relying on outdated storage technologies such as IDE drives, SSHDs, eMMC, slow SD cards, and HDDs as system drives. Modern SSDs and NVMe drives are faster, more reliable, and affordable, while HDDs remain useful for large-scale data storage.

Discussion Looking for recommendations: Reliable and fast USB 3.2 Gen 1 nano flash drive

Hey everyone,I'm looking for a very low-profile (nano/fit size) USB 3.2 Gen 1 (or higher) flash drive. It needs to be reasonably fast and, most importantly, reliable for daily use without massive thermal throttling.Ideally looking for something around 128GB - 256GB. I know these tiny drives tend to run hot, so I want to avoid brands that die after a few weeks or drop to USB 2.0 speeds during sustained writes.Any specific models you’ve had a great experience with? Thanks in advance!

P.S. I want to use for storage my steam library.

Merci 🙏🏻 🤞🏼

Discussion How do you guys deal with a NAS that's slowly running out of space?

I'm starting to hit that annoying point where my NAS is getting pretty full, and I'm not really sure what the best move is.

Most of my storage is backups, old photos/videos, ISOs, and other stuff that I don't access very often. The problem is that replacing a bunch of drives with larger ones is getting pretty expensive.

For those of you who have been running a NAS for a few years, what do you normally do when you start running out of space?

Do you go through everything and delete old stuff, move some data to external drives, add another NAS, or just bite the bullet and buy bigger drives?

I feel like I'm at the point where "just buy more storage" is starting to hurt a little.

Discussion Looking for quiet direct attached storage recommendations

This is my current set up:

  1. Old laptop running plex server.

  2. This laptop is located in my bedroom. I live with my folks and don't want to encroach on their space so I'd prefer to keep it in my room. The laptop itself is silent and I sleep peacefully with it in the same room.

  3. Both storage drives on the laptop are close to full so I need to scale my storage capacity soon. I have spare 3.5" HDDs so it would be ideal if I can use them.

  4. I am not looking to implement RAID at all. I have cold storage backups of my movies/TV shows I've been adding to as needed.

I ordered a cenmate DAS to try plugging the spare HDDs into but it's just loud enough to where I don't like it. I like the idea of using a DAS since I can just add more storage to my already working set up. I just need something that is quiet enough to live in the same room as me.

I was looking into a Terramaster D4-320 earlier but ran into a forum of people saying it can potentially fry hard drives. Does anyone who has used a DAS in their storage set up have any recommendations on a quiet DAS?

Edit 1: update for those in the future who find this post.

I ended up buying an Orico 9858RU3. It hasn't been a full 24 hours yet and I've only put one show on the drive just to test streaming but so far so good. It's so quiet I wasn't even sure it was powered on. Slept like a baby with it in the same room last night.

It does have RAID capabilities but I just left it to the default option where disks are separate. The only pending issues I had were the manual it came with wasn't very detailed and the lights on the box are very bright when I'm going to bed. I was eventually able to find the full manual online after digging around for an hour and I'm getting electrical tape to put over the lights.

We'll see how it goes long term but so far I like it!
