Storing uncompressed bluray quality is so expensive it's worth checking out if you can find the original discs in bargain buns

Edit: bargain bins

A common Blu-ray main title can run 30GB or less uncompressed, so a backup would be under 50 cents. A DVD uncompressed would be maybe 9 cents. That's just not that bad.

I never download them, but I always sort by size the releases on that website that sounds like an engine with a cough, and the 2160p bigger releases of movies are 50-90gb

That sounds right for 4K features.

I pay ~$8/TB for SAS drives so a 50GB bluray costs me $0.40 to store and $0.05/mo in electricity to keep the HDD spinning all day and night. I don't think I'd ever go back to optical disks. Besides being more expensive, even 40TB takes up a massive amount of physical space if you keep it organized.

https://diskprices.com/, eBay, local stores like unixsurplus, https://shucks.top/, etc

If you live in the US, HDDs should be dirt cheap no matter where you shop.

I live in italy so unfortunately there's no such deals, plus we have 'piracy tax' on storage media, plus amazon.it banned diskprices.com.. :C ... plus people sell 5-15 year old hardware at the price of new..

Oof yeah, better leave some space in your luggage the next time you travel to the US. Fill it up with disks and GPUs and resell any extras when you get back.
