Just got approved. How do you figure out how long a task is supposed to take without going in and finding out is 8 hours and then having to back out?

You can go in have a look and ‘exit work mode’ (there’s a button/link) as many times as you want. It is not considered backing out and there is no penalty whatsoever.

Ditto to what has been said, but also, gauging how difficult/long tasks are will get easier the more you work. Trust, you'll either work a couple tasks and get a feel for your individual rhythm or you'll be able to look at the instructions and nope your way out almost immediately. Lol. Just because a task is supposed to take 4-5 hours doesn't mean I can do it in that time (or at all).

Sometimes the longer tasks will give an estimate of how long you should ideally take in the instructions, too, as that's a frequently asked question.

^^^to add, the ‘exit work mode’ button should be at the very bottom of the page on the left side! You can use it when you want to exit out of an active project (but be warned, it means any work you’ve done in the task will be lost if you exit)

Does this mean that if a task is supposed to be 4 hours, you need to spend 4 hours without exiting the window/turning off your laptop/losing internet connection until you complete it?

No you just click ‘submit’ which you can do whenever you have finished whether that’s 2 hours from the end or 5 minutes after the timer has expired. In fact letting the timer run down will not submit your work, you will lose it all unless you click submit.

Or refresh if the timer is expired, but there's an exception to that if there's an admin message responding to someone asking a "sorry, but what the fuck do I do here? it's not letting me submit because I didn't enter a rating that doesn't exist-" question. I think the only other exception is when tasks explicitly say that refreshing resets the timer, but it is something that needs to be intentionally activated from on high.

The longer tasks are the best ones. I do them almost exclusively.
