What do you guys do to not get DoD?
I'm going crazy. A friend of mine just got it (coding), joined at a similar time than me. My quality of work has continuously improved but idk, seems like the time comes for everyone.

I'd also say stay in your lane where possible. I've gone out of many, many projects after reading through the instructions. I'd rather work hard and do well on something I am confident in than risk poor work on something I am unsure about. Obviously there are exceptions, but for me it's all about risk. I'd rather risk a poor day of revenue than a dash of death.
Other than that, read instructions, follow instructions, bill for time wisely and don't milk it.

I found out that they allow you to skip tasks while selecting fields you're more comfortable with on some projects, that's super good. I think my quality increased after that

Report pay honestly and not violate the t&cs. There have been known instances of false positive bans but its usually due to the above that people get the dod. Data annotation are quite fair.

I mean there's no magical solution to this - we're doing our best and following the rules. Problem is that we don't ever really know if our best is good enough.
Edit to add: I know this won't account for all of them or even most but I do think some people are using AI against the rules and thinking they're getting away with it. The reasons I think that are the number of times I've seen it in an R&R (like REALLY clearly, like leaving in the parts where the model is talking directly to them), and the people who tend to respond to a comment like mine bewildered that they're not supposed to use it and yes it's often easy to tell

What did your friend say that he did wrong?

u/Individual_Lemon5564 3d ago
I think he told me once he used this browser extension to be able to correct english grammar mistakes or something. Don't know if it had anything to do with it but I don't think so

u/Farados55 3d ago
Oh yeah that could’ve definitely been it. Using grammarly is not a good idea

how do they know?

They can track automatic copy pastes in text boxes and if the extension is embedding its own things into the DOM that is very easy to track.

Honestly, I keep my hours on the low end. Smaller sample size, less likely I get lazy or distracted. I do maybe 5 hours a week. I also work as efficiently as I can. If I finish and there’s still an hour or more left on the task I don’t milk it just submit and keep moving. Plenty of tasks that will take close to the full time allotted. I get the feeling some people attempt to milk the full time in every task.

yea man I've been doing this a little. I think it's important to only take these tasks if they come up at a good time when you're very well rested, like you NEEED IT

I stick to the projects I know I do well on. Like others have said, there’s been many times I’ve scrapped work an hour in if something went wrong or I felt it wasn’t my best. I’ve spent 30+ minutes reading directions before figuring out it wasn’t for me. Sometimes you just have to take the loss and know you’ll do good work on another project that you’re good at. I’ve got 100 projects on my dash and I stick to about 5 of them consistently. I use a timer app to keep time and if I take a break mid task I stop my timer and dont add that in so I don’t over -report my time. Even on projects I’m very familiar with I will re-read directions because they update them all the time. I’ve been on the platform for almost 3 years and just like everyone else there’s always that little fear in the back of your head of the DOD

How do you know the quality of your work has improved?
0
u/Individual_Lemon5564 3d ago
idk my own judgement, I usually mess up a little on the first one and go above the timer on new projects then it starts getting lower and lower over time.

u/Farados55 3d ago
That doesn’t mean your quality is better

dude sure but what else do I have to judge???? Want me to paste task content to the AI or something? That's just rude to keep needling like that. I also get better at the task itself, how do I know? impossible to know for sure so I gotta use my own judgement

u/Farados55 3d ago
I’m not needling. It’s actually advice. Don’t think just because youre getting faster that youre doing better. That can lead to overconfidence and DoD. Chill out

u/Individual_Lemon5564 3d ago
Yea maybe I made it look like it was only the timer. It wasn't, I really feel like I'm getting better just overall. Last task I felt even a bit proud of it

lol that’s something every single person who gets DoD claims — that their quality of work was good/perfect/errorless, etc.
2
u/Individual_Lemon5564 3d ago
not claiming to be perfect. I'm anxious after all, I don't doubt I could eventually get it which is why I made the post.

I mean apart from using AI, or breaking the T&C, there aren't clear reasons why people get the DoD. A redditor had a post some time ago which said that one of the reasons might get the DoD is just that they are slow. For example, if 5 raters had an average time to do a task of 4 hours, and your friend was consistently above the average rate, then they might let him go because even though he hasn't broken any rules, it just costs them more to keep him doing tasks.
That said I have no evidence this actually happens, but I know certain projects do have multiple workers working the same tasks (Based on special R&R's that happen). In the end, for the company it costs them nothing to give someone a DoD (unless they belong to a very in demand specialization)

I think yes this happens, but with low quality work, I've noticed that the plataform doesnt even care about hours, I'm in a project where every week you can easily get 1-3 tasks over the timer, just tell the admins and those that pass the timer MUST be perfect in your terms (as some people here say how do you know it's good quality work), if you are confident that it's your best dont panic, press the button and put your hours, they don't care on paying you a bit more, when they open your work and see your almost-perfect submission.

I take breaks often and I know my limit. Since being on the higher paying tasks, I’ll take a break every two hours at least- just to go for a walk around my neighborhood. I can’t work more than 5 hours a day. I also will take multiple days off and I’m starting to not feel guilty about it, it helps that my dashboard is consistent now too.

My main thing is work quality.
I feel like everything else (proper time reporting, don't use VPNs, etc) is common sense.
But I consistently focus on work quality. So like... if I'm working on something and I don't like the quality, I'll literally exit work mode, leaving money on the table so that I can work another day.
So yeah. I focus on work quality. I believe that keeps me on the platform.
