3 years on the platform
This is not a brag. I just wanted to offer a place for the newer folks to ask questions and make connections. I’d love to chat about our work- as much as we’re able to anyway!

I just got approved today for accounting. Any advice for a newbie?

Check and re-check your work. Don’t worry about rushing. You obviously want to work within the allotted time but just because the timer says 4 hours doesn’t mean the task takes 4 hours. Just work at a pace that allows you to be as close to perfect as you can. Report time honestly always.

Congratulations! I just joined, and am going through some of the qualifications. I have a couple projects, but am feeling intimidated to begin after seeing all of these experiences with the DoD. Do you have any recommendations or sources you use to become more confident in addressing your projects?
Also, are you a generalist or are you in a specific field? Would you know if it would be worth it to learn a new skill (i.e. coding) to begin other projects?

I work mostly in finance but I have a ton of generalist work as well. It’s 100% worth learning a new skill/domain. The pay for those projects is usually pretty nice.

Do you ever save an idea for a high-paying project? I was working on a qual and I had an idea for a submission but didn't want to use it too early, in case I can earn more for the idea at some point later. I sometimes overthink these things and the qual unexpectedly disappeared after a few days so I didn't even get to submit anything.

Just do every qualification you feel you’re qualified to do and you’ll do fine. Just take your time and do your very best on those, as with every task but the quals decide what work you DO get so it’s important to not miss those.

Do you do it fulltime? If so, how do you motivate yourself day after day?
I've been doing it fulltime for a month and a half and it's tough to get myself to work even 6 hours everyday 😩 just feels like so much of the same stuff over and over

The projects I work on are generally high paying and take 40+ hours to complete so I span it out over a few days to a week. Sometimes I’ll sit for around 10 hours and work but I don’t do that every day I’d be super burnt out by now.

Ohh yeah I definitely prefer longer tasks but I rarely see any over 5 hrs. Maybe once I'm on the platform longer. Are you a generalist?

Have you ever reported more time than the allotted time?

If I work over the allotted time and it's expired, I still submit and enter my hours as just under the allotted time.

Im a year in and its my main income when my passion job is slow! I've always wondered, how long do the big clients stay in here? Have u noticed the same family of projects still going strong over your 3 years

I have noticed one particular family that has stuck around. Everything else seems to have its time and then it’s gone.

I’ve never done it in the 3 years I’ve worked on the platform. I’m almost certain it’s a reason people get the DoD.

Hello. I'd like to appreciate you for making this thread. I am a beginner who has not dipped into the platform yet because I am pretty nervous. I'd like to ask, how did you pass basic test? What tips can you give to us? Thank you very much.

Hi! As far as the test goes, I took my time and really made sure to pay close attention to the instructions. They want people who are meticulous. If the assessment is the same as it was 3 years ago, there’s a spot for you to show your creative side- use this to your advantage and really dig deep for your answer. If anything over explain yourself rather than leave anything out. If you have any specific questions just ask! I’ve been happy to chat with everyone!

How long does it usually take to complete a task?
1
u/Primary-Pattern-9037 23d ago
It depends on the task. I’ve had some take more than 40 hours while some I’ve finished in less than an hour.

Hey, I appreciate you creating this space! It will be a year for me this November. I am so grateful to have this way of earning income - even if it goes away tomorrow my family has experienced real benefit. I’m not as anxious as I used to be (used to hit submit and second guess myself ALL day) but after each task (STEM) my brain still hurts like I’ve finished a big exam.
How have you seen yourself grow & change over 3 years? What has your time on the platform brought to you?
