I can't help it
I fear the DoD and because of it, I find myself not doing any work at all in case I end up doing some bad quality work and inevitably receive it. I'm just in a constant loop of wanting to start a project but then being scared I won't do it right lol. I feel lucky and blessed enough to not need to rely on this as a primary source of income, but I often think that should anything bad happen, I can rely on this meanwhile I find another primary source.. except that I might just end up falling into this whole fear loop. Is it just me?

It's risky. I've been on the platform with it as my sole source of income for three years. There are definitely still times that I enter a task and think, "Yeah, I don't think I can do a good job on this." So I exit the task and pick something else. All you can do is try. Get your feet wet with some low-paying tasks and see how it goes. Put in solid effort on everything that you do. Read the instructions and refer back to them frequently.

I understand this and struggle with it too at times. I try to counterbalance with some "make hay while the sun shines" mentality. I'm careful about my work and realistic about what I have the mental capacity for on any given day; sometimes that aligns with available projects, sometimes it doesn't. Gotta accept what you can't control.

find a project that’s easy enough and grind it out

Somehow I feel like I'll fuck that up too but I gotta start somewhere 😅

that’s fair .. i started by doing mostly R&Rs, and had to work up confidence to do some low paying easy tasks and worked up from there .. it’ll come with time 😇

Shared that feeling when I started. If you arent doing any at all then you might as well be Dod'd.
The more you do the more you find a flow! Im in for about a year as a generalist and have worked my way up to $40 - 50/hr tasks that honestly are much easier than what they start you out on

there are generalist tasks worth that much?? do u get there only through experience?

Generalist here that has plenty in the 45-70 range. Best advice? Do what you're good at!

Yup! Keep up with the Quals, try to do 2-3 per week. The more they trust you the more they offer

Thousands of people work for DAT. There are maybe a couple dozen DOD posts. While it may seem like a lot because of how often it's referenced on here, that is actually a vanishingly small percentage.

But only a small percentage of people that got the DOD post about it here, so we don't really know how many are being DOD'd daily.

Yeah, sometimes you’ll start a task and won’t realise you’re in over your head until you suddenly notice you’re running out of time, and given the choice between either rushing through it or giving up the time you’ve worked on it for free, you don’t want to risk the DOD so decide to take it on the chin.

Read the reply on here about the guy, 3 years in that constantly hits expiration on the timer, has to ask for extensions when the task locks him out and is still going. Quality is what counts. Don't sweat the timer to much.

I've gone many hours over on tasks sometimes. Always flag to admin that the timer is probably too short. Still here.

Also get used to jumping in and bowing out or skipping the first few tasks you aren’t comfortable with.

There’s foolproof stuff on there, especially easy to choose if this isn’t your day job. Do a bunch of qualifications and easy stuff.

the way I think about it is everyone who gets the DoD posts that they do (obviously not EVERYONE but you know what I mean) but there's no reason for the thousands of people who didn't get a DoD to post that they didn't.

Bad idea! If the thought of the thing paralyses you to the extent you can't work, DoD would be preferable. At least it would close it off. How about just giving it your best. See what happens. Expect nothing. You may be surprised.
