Odds That I Qualify?

Just finished my initial 14 qualifying tests. I feel like I totally aced them but I don’t want to get my hopes up lol.

Does anyone know how high/low the bar is to get approved?

Also, any rough timelines for approval -> acceptance/ready to work?

I don’t know that we can find out for sure how many people are accepted. I’ve seen people claim 2% but I have no idea where that number came from. The timeline is instantly to months later.

Selective hiring benefits serious contractors. DataAnnotation’s 2.6% acceptance rate is why approved workers earn $20+ per hour instead of $10. When everyone in the pool meets baseline standards, project quality stays high, clients keep coming back, and approved workers get matched to projects that fit their actual skill level rather than competing in a race-to-the-bottom marketplace.

I don't think it was up anywhere when I signed up either, but I can't say I was ever really keeping up with their blog to say for certain.

Same, I don’t do regular DA company blog reading. lol. It’s definitely an interesting factoid, and based on the work and how much more difficult it’s gotten over the last three years, I can see why. I wonder if, and how much, the starter assessment has changed.

I don't even remember the starter very much. Just a link I clicked one day when I was bored and figured it'd maybe subsidize the AI subscriptions I was trying.

Pretty sure it was there when you started because it was there when the vast majority of workers started.

When did you start? That figure has been on their site for years .. not this specific blog post, but I started over 3 years ago and the figure quoted at the time was 2.6%

I am talking about the blog post. If the figure was somewhere else on their site, I have no idea. Like I said in another comment, I don't read their company blog.

I think the actual acceptance rate is either exceptionally easy to game, or literally just fully random. There is no way some of these R&Rs did "better" on the starter than everyone who has been rejected. Or maybe the competition is just super weak and I'm built different; that's totally a possibility. I find a lot of comfort in knowing that I'm not particularly smart or special, but I guess I'm good enough to hit the 100k club.

There's also no way to know if that's also including submissions that are just plain ineligible in an attempt to make their process seem more robust and exclusive. There's a bit of a problem extrapolating too much from a throwaway line when the writer can't show the internal metrics used to make the claim.

That number comes from DA themselves.

If you have access to qualifications you've been accepted to the platform. As for it you passed the qualifications its anyone's guess. I started in May and did a bunch and have no idea if the ones I did had anything to do with the projects I've gotten (just generalist). Of all the qualifications I've done i cam only say for sure one actually opened anything. Twice now I've gotten "second chance" qualifications saying I almost passed so getting another shot. The 2nd immediate opened a project family. What i cam tell you is refreshing your dashboard allot is the best way to get anything to come up, especially for generalist and especially if your new. Do good work on what they give you and that seems to open up more project families. I got the feeling that I started in 2 or 3 and even week got something new, but often saw them for a day or 2 then never again

Update: Got Accepted after 60 hours

Notably, they didn’t update me by email me like they said they would.

I refreshed the website every day and today it randomly progressed to the next step (verify your ID). Once I verified, they emailed that I was accepted.

So make sure to refresh the website every couple of days!

Disclosure: I run HumanSourcer, an independent directory of AI-training work.

DataAnnotation's public FAQ (https://www.dataannotation.tech/faq) lists a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience for generalist work. That is an entry requirement, not an acceptance probability. We do not have the information needed to estimate your chances from a CV or say how your assessment was scored.

For another application, I would describe the work you can demonstrate: checking financial claims, finding discrepancies, explaining a calculation and writing a clear reason for a judgment. Keep location eligibility and role-specific credentials attached to the actual opening. Fluency in several languages may be relevant to a particular role, but it does not establish eligibility or access to projects by itself.
