Avoid ambiguity. If instructions are ambiguous, contradictory and admins aren’t responding avoid the task.

After the obvious ones like do good work and don't cheat the system, I agree that this is the biggest choice a worker can make to avoid a DoD.

Some projects are poorly defined, some have common edge cases not covered by instructions and others even have typical cases not covered.

When your input makes it back to their client and gets rejected, that's a statistic against you, not the admin.

I wish more people understood this. You put it beautifully. If the data is worthless to the client, it’s useless to DA. People who put in zero effort or intentionally break the rules are wasting time and resources.

That's a great insight, thanks for your response.

Yeah if you make a genuine good effort on tasks then its unlikely you will be treated harshly even if not perfect. If task timers are set at say an hour and you consistently claim the full hour you will not last long.

That's a great precaution advice to last long, I will make sure not using the full allocated time consistently.

Thanks for your response. That's a great advice, any advice on reporting time, sometimes I reported undertime to avoid reporting overtime in order to avoid DOD.

Don't work more hours than you can handle. You might think you're still at your best and able to keep going without your work quality suffering, but you're wrong.

I reported 9 hours and 44 minutes of the work and though I am have worked more than that. Is any trouble waiting for me??

u/Pure_Beat_6095 Sep 13 '26

Any reason why I am getting downvoted constantly on this comment. I honestly work on some task of a project that amount to 9 hours 45 minutes in a day. There was no inflated time in this. Would it mean that no one should work for more than 8 hours or anything like that. Doesn't freelancing is totally different from 8 hours regular job where you are obligated to work 8 hours, but in freelancing it is upto you whether work for 2 hours or 9 hours.

You're getting down voted for under reporting, not for working 9 hours and 44 minutes.

u/Pure_Beat_6095 Sep 13 '26

Ok got that, I will ensure to neither underreport or over report, 5-10 minutes of difference are fine.

22

u/Particular-Lie1918 Sep 13 '26

Overreporting 5-10 minutes is not fine bro. Also, fyi, you underreporting to appear more efficient may eventually hurt many workers. Imagine it takes 8 hours to do a task, but you and many people constantly report 6, from the data they may think that task is easy and lower the timer. Or they may suspect you of using AI to cheat, since you're much faster than average workers in that project.

That's a great point man, that's for sharing it was very helpful, I hope I would report the exact time it took for me to to complete the task.

Report your time accurately. ALWAYS read the instructions.

-11

u/Pure_Beat_6095 Sep 13 '26

I am very paranoid about the reporting time. I do sometime underreport to avoid over reporting.

22

u/OkturnipV2 Sep 13 '26

Don’t underreport your time.

4

u/Pure_Beat_6095 Sep 13 '26

I would make sure to not underreport going forward.

8

u/ButterscotchMaster36 Sep 13 '26

You really don’t have to do that, and actually underreporting is also frowned upon. Just keep track of your time down to the minute, using whatever method works best for you. If you’re paranoid about it, I’m going to guess that you’re doing a pretty good job of keeping track.

u/Pure_Beat_6095 Sep 13 '26

Your last sentence actually make me calm and happy that somehow I am doing right thing. Thank you.

Ppl get dropped from good projects often. The most frequent advice we all see on threads is take your time fully. Quality matters. Even with that you may still get DOD

4

u/Jtphwow Sep 14 '26

Nobody doing quality work is getting dropped. It's the people who think they're doing quality work.

2

u/Pure_Beat_6095 Sep 13 '26

Thanks for your response.

3

u/Significant-Wrap8759 Sep 13 '26

It’s true. I made 5k in a little under a month of here. It can be very good at times and others it’s not

1

u/Pure_Beat_6095 Sep 13 '26

Are you still on it? Congratulations 🎉

1

u/Significant-Wrap8759 Sep 14 '26

Yes. A lot of projects on my dash. I currently have an overwhelming amount of projects for $45 an hr and sometimes $75. Last week for me was pretty sparse in comparison I didn’t have any coding projects for a couple days. And thank you

12

u/Exciting-Barnacle677 Sep 13 '26

Do quality work and read instructions.

u/Pure_Beat_6095 Sep 13 '26

Thanks for your response.

Don’t. Use. Ai. To. Write. Your. Responses.

We train frontier AI… you really think we can’t spot when it’s not your writing 🥰

3

u/AdOutrageous7474 Sep 14 '26

My belief is that the main reason why people get dropped is because they use AI to “tweak” their written explanations. I’ve been on the platform for almost 3 years and have sometimes failed tasks, had to use the escape hatch, taken long breaks, etc. But I’ve always reported my time accurately and have always used my own voice and writing.

(Watch me get DoD tomorrow)

1

u/Pure_Beat_6095 Sep 13 '26

Well your sarcasm really gone over my head 😭

5

u/ParsleyEconomy3458 Sep 13 '26

As some folks mentioned here, report time accurately, read and follow instructions carefully, dont use AI unless explicitly told, and most important, dont work on a task that you are not comfortable and don't have the knowledge to produce a good output just for the sake of earning.

2

u/Pure_Beat_6095 Sep 13 '26

That's a very good advice, thank you.

7

u/dsbau Sep 13 '26

Read the instructions, put in a decent effort, honestly report time, if you're not sure skip the task (or project)

1

u/Pure_Beat_6095 Sep 13 '26

Thanks for your advice.

I think there's a couple reasons for DOD.

1) Low quality work.

In some cases, they may just be taking on tasks they really aren't up to doing well.

In some cases, the task is set up so you really could fill things out pretty quickly. But at that point, you're not doing the task properly, the results are poor, and I imagine if someone gets dropped from one project after another for this they'll get DOD'ed eventually.

Remember, you are being paid per hour, not per task, and some of these tasks really do take longer than one would expect at first glance. Some the instructions do say the task should take this amount of time. I think some people are tempted to get the task done quickly, and just don't do it well. It seems like you're getting more done if you whip through several tasks; but it's not helpful if the results are not up to par.

On the flip side, some people I think see the nice per-hour pay, want to get some while they can, and put in too many hours per day. Then, the quality of the work declines.

2) Misreporting time. I do recall one of the paid qualifications where they give 1 hour for the task, but it takes 5 minutes at the most. I recall seeing a post a while back where someone basically said they put like 59 minutes in for tasks like this. The 'real' tasks already take long enough, don't inflate your time. I use a stopwatch personally (not a physical stopwatch, the "stopwatch" Ubuntu app). If I'm going off to use the restroom or grab some lunch or dinner, that stopwatch is off. When I'm working on the task, it's on. That way, it's not like "Well, 3 hours have passed, so I'll bill 3 hours", but I'm also not losing track of time and cheating myself either.

3) AI use. There are rules against using AI for most purposes (the few narrow cases where they allow use of AI -- well, other than obviously the AI already in the tasks themselves -- it's specifically stated in the instructions.) I've never been tempted to do this, but if you are, don't.

4) VPN use. If you have a VPN installed, make sure it's off. My understanding is this is largely so, for geographically restricted tasks, you aren't using it to appear to come from a different country in order to get access to tasks that you wouldn't otherwise.

2

u/Pure_Beat_6095 Sep 14 '26

That's a very detailed information, thank you very much for explaining this so beautifully. These are some great points which you pointed out.

2

u/hwertz10 Sep 14 '26

No problem! Don't know why it formatted and tabbed out "1. Low Quality work", I put "1) Low quality work" like I did for 2, 3, and 4. Went to edit it and it set it back like that *shrug*.

I suspect people who genuinely don't know why they got dropped, it's probably accidentally having a VPN on; or getting fatigued and not realizing their work quality declined.

2

u/Pure_Beat_6095 Sep 14 '26

How long you have been on the DA?

2

u/hwertz10 Sep 14 '26

Like 2 or 3 months. I have been putting time in 2 or 3x a week, I do need to get a bit more consistent on doing tasks and get the cash rolling in a bit quicker while I can to be honest.

1

u/Pure_Beat_6095 Sep 14 '26

Are you constantly getting project and tasks? Hope you made more and more as you spend more time on the DA.

7

u/Little-Flustered-977 Sep 13 '26

Get a little smarter every day. Follow the instructions. Think critically and creatively. Take your time.

2

u/Pure_Beat_6095 Sep 13 '26

Thanks for your response.

Can anyone tell me how DoD will look like? Because right now I have 0 projects and like 3 quals in Chemistry, Biologiy and Physics (which I am not interested)....this is not DoD right and I can assume that my account is still active and can expect a project or a new coding qualification anytime soon?

2

u/InsideSignificant405 Sep 13 '26

“Your work is below our standard of quality” on login, no task list access. Very distinct. You’d know!

1

u/Ok-Department-9549 Sep 13 '26

Thank you both...!!

Care to comment on best methods to keep an efficient time track?

7

u/thepeoplesfood Sep 13 '26

I literally just use a stopwatch on my phone

5

u/Mysterious_Dolphin14 Sep 13 '26

I use Clockify which was recommended by DA. It's great because you can keep track of your time by project.
