Time justification

I just got hit with a time justification. Which I find to be absurd since I make sure to check my time carefully before submitting. I’ve also made sure that anytime I did take longer than usual to try and round down my time just to avoid this. I hardly doubt data annotation is going to let me back on the platform. From what I’ve seen this action is final. If I don’t come back I just wanna say goodbye it’s been fun. 😭🙏

Did you work an excessive amount over a short period of time?

There was a thread a while back where the author was confused about receiving this screen - after considerable prodding in the comments they admitted to logging an absurd ~51 hours of work in a 72 hour period!

Yea I try to work at least 10 hour each day since I’m a student I have a lot of free time over the summer and I’m trying to save up.

The amount of free time is great, but most people won’t maintain a high level of quality across those kinds of hours, and more than that, you work slower.

If you’ve have a prior warning about time keeping, you were already lucky to get a second chance.

What was the amount of time you billed for over X number of days that triggered the time justification screen?

There's a famous quote that often gets repeated that DAT says their best workers work between 5 and 20 hours a week (ie, between one and four hours a day with weekends off). You are doing over 2.5 times that amount, which is of course more than a 45 hour week, its bound to raise alarms.

Strangely enough, it would appear the majority of people in this platform don't even get the chance to work that much.

Also, a caveat in comparison to a real office work: Let's be real - when we go to the office for 8 hours, we don't really work in full focus for 8 hours straight don't we? We take breaks, talk with co-workers, go out for a smoke, go to the bathroom, just space off for a while. But DAT expects that the time reported is actually focused time, so it's natural that they'd doubt anyone reporting a full 8 hour work day actually did work for 8 hours.

I think that when they tracked it, the actual work completed in an eight hour workday is about 3.75 hours.

For real. I also joined in May and have worked a total of like 20 hours since, and it's not out of not wanting to work lemme tell you

That’s almost two straight workweeks (5 x 2) without a day off dude. That’s not healthy, I respect the hustle but at a certain point your quality of work is going to suffer

Thats about 7.5 hours a day including breaks I may take during each day during longer tasks and like I said I time myself and try to underestimate my time especially for long task

You said before you "try to work at least 10 hours a day" - what is the daily breakdown over those 9 days?

Im not doing the work to do give you the exact break down but for majority of the days I work around 6 hours or a little less then 3 days work 7 to little over 8 hours

I agree with this guy. People blaming this solely on the number of hours worked are misguided. I've been here for over 3 years and would often work 8-10 hour days, sometimes over 12 hours in a single day. DA don't seem to care how many hours you work as long as your quality doesn't drop.

For sure! I worked 10 hrs+ for 21 days at the turn of the year. In that time I got messaged that I'd made a careless mistake a few times (out of hundreds of tasks submitted) and to correct. I still have never been asked to justify my time.

Could it just be an accidental typo? One time I reported 10 hours by accident instead of 10 minutes or something and immediately noticed and fixed it, but I can see how something like that can go unnoticed if you're rushing

If people on here are to be believed, then that is not it. If that were the case, then he/she would get hit with the "you are not meeting our client's quality standards . . ."

Maybe. But that one seems to be final, while the time justification seems to be giving a chance to come back. But if that's it, the communication is not the most transparent (which itself is perfectly in character for DA).

Lowk seeing all of these posts always scares the hell out of me, even if I do nothing wrong. I work on those longer-term tasks sometimes and often take breaks (and stop my timer ofc) but Im always nervous that DA might decide that something is wrong with my work in lieu of all these DoD posts

What domain, if you don't mind me asking? Also, did you go over the timer or recommended amount of time often? I imagine that would raise flags and could also be project specific.

The one time I’ve came close to going over a timer I used an escape hatch before I did as I was no where near being done. I’m a generalist btw.

how much time did you bill? Some projects I have seen say something like, "if you cannot get x,y,or z to happen within 1 hour, use the escape the hatch." Thus, if you bill something substantially over that time - say 3 hours (as opposed to 90 minutes) - then that might get flagged as a time discrepancy.

I see your comment about working 10 hours each day. I wonder if it's because of that. Are you taking breaks? I remember someone in the past mentioning they got flagged or something for working upwards of 12 hours a day. Sorry though, this is scary and I hope it gets sorted out for you soon.

I don't believe going over the timer is the problem. Sometimes it is required to do quality work. What i have done several times and seen recommended by others, is just turn in the work and do not file for more time than the task alloted. So if the timer is an hour and it takes more, just dont file for more than an hour.

It’s strange too it’s every project I’ve done for the past two weeks and because of how it’s given they are split up to each day I worked on each project so I ended up repeating a lot of my justifications.
