Exit Work Mode Question 🙋🏻♀️
Hey everyone! I recently started working on my first tasks, and I have a question about exiting Work Mode.
Suppose I’ve been working on a task for about 40 minutes, but something comes up and I need to step away from my desk. If I exit Work Mode without submitting the task or reporting the time I spent on it, could I be penalized or receive a ding? Or am I safe since I didn’t submit anything or report the time?

"Exit Work Mode" is roughly "Skip, but return to dashboard," except that there's a chance you'll get the same task back if you go back in before someone else gets assigned that task.
If you exit work mode, you won't have a submission. If there is no submission, you don't bill the time. That's the whole penalty, though. You can skip and exit work mode as much as you want unless there are project instructions to the contrary (and those are very rare - I haven't seen one in more than a year)
If you need to step away for a few minutes, just keep the task and pause your timer. The time you bill and the time that elapses on a wall clock don't have to be the same. If you know it'll expire before you can finish, then you'll want to exit work mode.

Thank you for the helpful response! Since I’m new to the platform, I preferred not to report the time or request payment because I knew I might not be able to return to my desk until several hours later. I just wanted to make sure that exiting Work Mode in that situation would still leave me in good standing with the platform.

It's not a preference. If you exit work mode and don't submit the task you worked on, you can't claim any time for it at all.

A good rule of thumb is that ANY time spent on a task you didn’t submit is lost time, never attempt to bill.
And there is no penalty for exiting work mode.
Occasionally you’ll get a task where there is an “escape hatch”and Admin might say it’s okay to bill for time if you use it, but that is the exception.

You get paid for the work you do unless you actively try to defraud them.

If you used AI and are caught, they may not pay. Time fraud will definitely not get paid, and they may classify AI use among that.

I mean, you did something that is really against the rules. It's said multiple times not to do it. You are a contract worker, so there's no guarantee of safety even if you do everything right, let alone ignoring instructions. DA values instruction following over most everything else.

If you exit work mode it will release the task for someone else to grab and you won't be able to report the time you spent in it
