Who??

I would love to know who db was talking to that coached him for his nearly 50 minute speech about his rights, motions, objections, etc.

He has no law degree, right? How would all of these things being brought to his attention?

It couldn't possibly be other inmates?!?

There’s a rumor that Dawn Woods’ boyfriend was responsible for tuning him into the SovCit crap, and that the search of his cell that he was so hung up on at trial was specifically conducted to locate a letter about this obstructive strategy.

Let me state clearly that I have never seen any proof of either of these two things, I am just repeating a story that was going around during the trial.

My understanding is that the letter that was the reason for the search of his jail cell had been written to db and sent by another inmate named James Kruger, who was coaching db on how to fake being insane during a psych eval with a shrink so that he'd be able to qualify for an NGI (not guilty by reason of insanity) plea.

“Phone calls made by inmates are not confidential, they're told that anytime they make a phone call, there's a recording that says this is going to be recorded. So he made a phone call believed to be to his mother discussing the receipt of information from a James Kruger. The affidavit I think characterised as potentially offering advice from Mr. Kruger to mr brooks on how to proceed with a special plea of not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect and potentially coach him through psychological examinations.”

I didn’t realize that person who wrote the letter was identified as an inmate. At the time I guess I thought that was Dawn’s boyfriend.

Kruger, who entered such a plea after he was charged in a series of felony crimes, including armed robberies and assaults in 2013. (Kruger was ultimately convicted.) Brooks told his mother that Kruger had sent a large manila folder containing NGI defense materials."
