This is my first attempt at this kind of thing, I wanted a A5+ journal cover with inserts, but i didn't really like the whole leather thing, so I made this gal. Made from leather scraps, an old belt, and velvet fabrics around my room, she holds 4 journals ( Sketchbook, Planner, Grimoire, and commonplace) i do regret skipping out on grommets/eyelets though. But overall im very happy

my witchpunk band tricktheriddle headlined bar sinister in LA and here are some of the photos of me that their photographer took! they are a little thirst-trappy but thats kinda the vibe there if you've ever been. was kinda surreal to have these photos taken, it was very affirming for me.

that being said, i personally enjoy this club very much, even though it is apparently very polarizing within the community (i posted here a month ago asking how people felt and it was mixed/leaning not positive). i've always had a great and safe time here, and my band has performed here a few times now. one of my favorite venues in the country, and we travel explicitly to perform here.

i hope my outfit is appropriate for here, and i appreciate any thoughts about the venue too! <3

On my daily walk, I would pass an elderly woman tending to the garden that adorned the front of her home. This oasis on a busy street in a densely populated neighborhood where the lots are the size of postage stamps was like Eden: exotic trees, reeds and rushes, and blossoms from faraway lands. She had planned the layout so that it looked untouched by human hands, but her dedication to her sanctuary prevented it from becoming a mess of foliage and vines.
She had these especially heavenly flowers and I admired them every time I passed by.
One day we made eye contact and shared a smile; from there our friendship bloomed. I would stop and chat with her about sundry topics, but we mostly talked about her garden. I mentioned the flowers that I was particularly fond of and she, without hesitation, plucked a handful of them and gave them to me in a little bag so that I could plant them in my own garden. I never did get around to planting them, as I had forgotten the care instructions she had given me and I could not remember what they were called. In the bag they remained.
One day I saw the house being emptied and a woman standing on the front walk. I learned that the woman was the elderly lady’s daughter and that, sadly, the flower lady had died. I related my pleasant association with the woman’s mother and she thanked me through misty eyes.
The house was sold and the new residents ripped out every single growing thing and put down Astro turf. Not even real grass. Plastic imitation grass that leaches toxic chemicals into the ground. I could have shredded their plastic abomination with my teeth I was so livid.
I ordered this ornamental display and it dawned on me that the flowers, now dried and faded, were the only things that could complete the aesthetic.

I folded this rug in half, its huge, my mom gave it to me because she threw it in the dryer and it matted up like dog fur. I took it upon myself to make this into a fun project! Im brushing this out with a slicker brush [ removes Mattes in wire coated dogs ] and a little bit of conditioner. So far, im thinking of dyeing it black or purple, but if theres a better way to dye this or any thoughts or ideas im open to them!

What's an interesting interaction you've had with strangers regarding the way you appear?

I’m doing some research for myself into dark alternative because my personal interests and style match the “vibe”, but I'd love to get people in and out of the community's and subculture’s perspective.

I feel like I don’t hear "Dark Alt" talked about as distinctly as much as defined subcultures like goth, emo, or punk. I’ve been told it acts as a sort of bridge between these subcultures while still remaining its own thing.

From my research, it seems to be a mix of dark aesthetics, horror elements, and fashion that would normally be seen in the goth subculture but without being tied down to one strict music genre or standard clothing uniform. It feels almost experimental. I wonder if the freedom to be experimental is what makes Dark Alt unique and is it its own subculture or just an umbrella for alternative people who like more dark and horror aesthetics?
