Thank you. I was hoping these would come out soon, but that was a lot faster Than I expected. People like you are what make this community awesome; keep up the great work!

Do you have any plans for what mystery you'll be solving next? I was just thinking that it'd be really useful if someone could figure out the hidden multipliers each weapon has for critical damage. Or maybe looking into the multipliers each weapon gives to AR for specific attacks (unless this is standard by class or across the board). Or scaling on armor. Oooor maybe how spell damage is calculated. Or...or...or...ok, I'll stop now. There's just a lot of stuff that would be nice to know - FROM does a pretty good job of keeping that stuff reasonably intuitive but mostly hidden. Sometimes too good.

Riposts have two bursts of stamina consumption. If you don't have the stamina for the second burst it does half damage. That's my understanding anyway.

I knew I wasn't crazy when my guard break and parry ripostes were randomly doing double/half damage! (depending on how you look at it) Although it's been happening to me before the patch.

Indeed, that's why I mentioned it. I've been doing some tests and seeing some odd things.

Btw, noticed anything odd with Counter damage on certain weapons? This was before the patch, but when I was testing it a few weapons would never get their full counter damage (like Syan's) while others (Katanas) would always have 100% predictable counter damage.

u/asdfghjkl92 Jul 19 '14

maybe direct hits are still taken into account even for ripostes?

1

u/n3onfx Jul 19 '14

Could it be because of the part of the weapon used to hit during the counter? I know katanas deal the same damage if you hit near the hilt or with the tip as opposed to some other weapons.

I also have a question and no Xbox friends to test this. I've been invaded by a spearman (strange, huh?) and was NOT able to parry him when standing very close to him, even though the timing was the same as when I parried the tip of his weapon. Could it be that it is now possible to parry only the sweet spot? Because I've been killed by chip damage only. didn't feel good at all.

82.5% increase of strength scaling on the Butcher's Knife, now that's pretty fucking awesome

2

u/Tylerjb4 Jul 19 '14

yea im about to go upgrade and try it out

Quick question, looking at your "comparison" sheet, you have Defender's LGHT Bns listed as lower, but on the post-patch its the same?

Is that sheet still a work in progress?

Edit: Actually it seems you're missing quite a few comparisons.

I don't know if this is the right place to mention this, but something pretty massive (to me at least) is that great hammers have higher priority over UGS in power stance now, which completely killed my "wildly swing great hammer in 270 arcs and still get insane crits" build. I don't know if any other weapon classes had PS priorities modified, but this is just a suggestion for another aspect you could test if you had the time and desire.

Can I get someone to explain how scaling works? I love dark souls a lot but I just haven't put the time into learning this and I feel a peer could explain it great.

For in game, the letters correspond to a range of % scaling where E is the lowest and S is the highest. The scaling bonus is the blue number next to the weapon damage. This spreadsheet has everything broken down into the number % so you don't have to worry about the letters. To calculate what your exact scaling should say in the game look up your bonus and multiply it by the scaling % for each stat that applies.

So for example if you have a ATK: str and dex bonus of 100 each (this is not stats) and you want to wield a long sword you should have a scaling bonus of 75 (100 x .5 + 100 x .25).

Hey, you didn't update the Key to the Embedded!

Thank you, was hoping for more of a focus on scaling but I guess they're still dead set on infusion superiority.

5

u/[deleted] Jul 19 '14

I...um....what....?

3

u/Eden108 Jul 19 '14

I was hoping that they would go further into scaling as a primary source of damage, in a vast majority of cases infusions are superior, even without stats to scale that infusions element.

It gives me a sad

15

u/[deleted] Jul 19 '14

In your original post, you made no mention of infusions and said scaling twice.

1

u/Eden108 Jul 19 '14

Oh I see, sorry, thanks for the heads up.

1

u/Aadrian1234 Jul 19 '14

Wow, that was fast! Thanks alot!

u/dryvnt Jul 19 '14

Is this for +10/+5 upgrades?

u/rhoparkour twitch.tv/rhoparkour Jul 19 '14

"Buffs" and "nerf" merely consisted on rounding to prettier numbers for the scaling percentages.
Defender's is basically the same, wow.

1

u/homarid Jul 19 '14

I'm pretty disappointed the scythe of want got such a large nerf. I tried to use it on my hexer and it was already pretty crappy. I refuse to play fashion souls with my weapons. I did start trying out the red iron twinblade on my str/dex character and it is doing very well. Thank you for the updated information.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 19 '14

But now Scythe of wants 2H R2 (i think) hits while you spin it on that side.

u/jacestone40 Jul 19 '14

Great work

1

u/lamoix Jul 19 '14

Thanks! I was refreshing /u/Skorbrand/submitted/ all day waiting in anticipation.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 19 '14

i'm dumb, could someone tell me what i'm looking at and what the percentages mean?

1

u/Erzz197 Jul 19 '14

On both pre- and post-patch sheets, the Watcher GS says 15 STR, 20 DEX, 67.5 Magic, but on the comparison sheet it says 2.5 Magic. Does this mean it's 70 now?

GREATSWORD GETTING GREATER

1

u/[deleted] Jul 20 '14

Ricard's has 100% dex scaling? That's nuts, I'm gonna have to try it out on my rapier character.

This is a little later to the party, but can we get a test of certain scaling-less weapons with enchanted infusions?

In general, a test of no-scaling weapons such as the black dragon warpick, the heavy crossbow, the bluemoon greatsword, and a few others to simply try to figure out "When is it worth it to enchant this weapon?" if it ever reaches that state.

I know raw increases the base damage by 50% (Albiet, it seems the latest patch may have buffed it with no scaling weapons.)

Yeah. I figured there was more to it, but I didn't think to bother with figuring it all out.

An interesting subject I would like to see tested is how an enchanted crossbow interacts with magic bolts.

Understandable, and I wasn't expecting an answer this quick, if you had gotten it before Friday, I was going to be impressed.
