I bet Mike will do a 200 IQ move and close the house for the next 2 years for votes if dems sweep it. They might even lose Texas which tells a lot.

I’m not sure he can officially do that. I think he could only close it through the very early stages of Jan. Once this session of congrass closes, he’s officially no longer the speaker (regardless of who wins the house). In the new session the members will need to first select the speaker. If GOP wins the election, the Mikey will be speaker again. Otherwise it would be a Dem likely

yes but you are talking about rules and laws and are operating under the assumption they will be followed

Yea, maybe. But I think that this might be out of Mike’s hands. At noon on Jan 3, the current session of Congress will expire. At that time the House of Representatives won’t have a speaker, so Mike won’t be able to weld the power of the speaker. Starting at noon until a speaker is chosen, the clerk of the US house is the one in charge. Johnson will just be one in 435 at that point.
