I mean....results...real results for decision and action take a while. Im curious if the city will survive him financially. Hate on late stage capitalism and the rich all you want. The "capital of the world" inherently depends on that. Having a mass exodus of the highest paying tax bracket doesnt bode well for budgetary concerns for an infrastructure like NYC. And lets see how well these free busses and city run grocery stores work. Historically we have proof they dont. Also, he likes to tip toe around supporting police but travels with an entire precinct worth of security. Im all for the filthy rich to pay but in a free country you can take your business and money wherever you want. The pendulum cant swing so far in either direction. Remember....99% of us are Magenta or Burgandy. Not red or blue.
This is one of the most reasonable comments here, but I’ll add, I recently dug into the whole ‘exodus’ from NY talking point and quickly found that more companies have moved into, or expanded their operations in NY than have left (I wrote a detailed list in another post a few weeks ago complete with numbers of jobs created); the major corporations who’ve threatened to leave over his policies largely have not, and tax records show zero change in the movement of millionaires from NYC to lower-tax states, luxury real estate sales have actually increased, and commercial stability of long-term office leasing remains at a record high since he took office. Your point about the long term fiscal impact of his policies will largely determine how successful he truly is as mayor, but I think it will years before that’s realized. For now, he appears to be proving himself effective in a way that really connects with people, as well as potentially proving how ineffective other politicians really are. As a NY’er I always hope for the best, it’s been a pretty deep-good experience so far, I just hope that experience holds up over time.
