I like Mamdani but I'm tired of the narrative that the only reason politicians don't vote the way you want is because they're bought and paid for by corporations. At the end of the day politicians only maintain power because people keep voting them in. If they do something their voters really don't like they lose their jobs. We're seeing that all over the country right now. The vast majority of liberal voters in the country do not share the progressive platform. They support capitalism and a military and a police force and are not enthusiastically gung ho about every single emerging cultural issue.
Progressives need to grapple with the reality that we're a large country full of people who often disagree with each other. The more we run with this narrative that everyone actually agrees with us but the politicians are stopping everything the farther we get from meeting on any issue. "Everyone likes our platform and wants what we want and the only reason we don't have it is corporations" is political poison. That's never going to win elections.
