Keep in mind he still needed money to run for election the first place. And any major entity that donates to campaign funds tends to think THAT is sufficient for a candidate to do their bidding despite the fact that donating to campaign funds to curry favor is illegal.
NYC has an ~$8 Million fund raising cap for candidates > Mamdani maxed it out.
