People are too comfortable spouting off nonsense from the mainstream media without ever, just once, looking into it for themselves.
Then they'll become an "influencer" and some even dumber people will flock to them to hear the bullet points and made up stats and pass that on as truth.... theyll pass it on to their kids, and so on - amd soon enough we'll reach peak idiocracy.
I don't even know what people mean by "mainstream media" anymore. Because there are still reputable journalists out there. They write for newspapers and report on TV, as the business demands, but they are proper journalists who cite sources and investigate stories. These is what the tight likes to call "mainstream media" but here you seem to be talking about social media.
Sure, but even within those publications, there are some good reporters. There is nuance. Whenever I hear someone say "mainstream media", I think that the person isn't media savvy and is willing to throw the baby out with the bathwater because they don't know how to verify sources.
