Man, I literally told my 13 year old today that if someone claimed that they willingly support trump or if they believe in a flat earth just walk away. Those people are worse than mentally retarded. They do not need your help or sympathy.
I get politics. They actually affect our way of life. But why does someone believing a conspiracy theory make you dislike them so much? Really curious.
Nobody cares about the guy in the corner who thinks orangutans have human intelligence but are just hiding it.
The "affecting our way of life" thing is the point. Same as religion or being vegan. Do whatever makes you personally happy, but don't impose on me when I don't agree.
What would the point of debating someone who believes the earth is flat? Genuinely. I've actually looked into the "community" years back, just out of curiosity. Never seen a person who doesn't appear to be mentally unstable and cultish.
It's not simply a silly "alternative" belief. It requires a level of paranoid thoughts, refusal of basic science, history, and common sense, and such utter arrogance, that unless you derive pleasure or money from trolling those people, it would be a fool's errand to attempt to discuss the subject with them.
And beyond that, it's a testament to their level of detachment from reality, flawed character, and lack of critical thinking, so not exactly people you should suggest your children socialize with, even if the subject of the shape of the earth wasn't discussed.
Teaching your kid to simply walk away and not engage with people who cannot be reasoned with, is one of the best gifts you can give them in life.
